Aligning Objects in Adobe Illustrator CS3 If you are in the program, look at the top of your standard (program default) tool bar. Image (1) Default Standard Toolbar Look for the following buttons on your tool bar Image (2) Aligns selected object or objects to your artboard Image (3) Aligns selected objects according to other selected objects. These buttons are used for controlling your alignment. Image (4) Align Selected Object(s) To Artboard Mode Indicator When the button shown on the far left of your Alignment Toolbar at the top of the window looks like this, any objects you select for alignment will be aligned according to the total dimensions of your artboard. When the button looks like this, you can align single objects. Image (5) Align Object to Other Selected Objects Mode Indicator When the button shown on the far left of your Alignment Toolbar at the top of the window looks like this, any objects you select for alignment will be aligned in relations to the other objects you have selected for alignment. When the button looks like this, you cannot align single objects.

Aligning Objects in Adobe Illustrator CS3

If you are in the program, look at the top of your standard (program default) tool bar.

Image (1) Default Standard Toolbar Look for the following buttons on your tool bar

Image (2) Aligns selected object or objects to your artboard

Image (3) Aligns selected objects according to other selected objects. These buttons are used for controlling your alignment.

Image (4) Align Selected Object(s) To Artboard Mode Indicator When the button shown on the far left of your Alignment Toolbar at the top of the window looks like this, any objects you select for alignment will be aligned according to the total dimensions of your artboard. When the button looks like this, you can align single objects.

Image (5) Align Object to Other Selected Objects Mode Indicator When the button shown on the far left of your Alignment Toolbar at the top of the window looks like this, any objects you select for alignment will be aligned in relations to the other objects you have selected for alignment. When the button looks like this, you cannot align single objects.

Image (6) Align Selected Object(s) Left This button will align any object(s) you select to the object which is farthest Left on your artboard or even outside of your artboard margins when in Align to Other Objects Mode. It will make all objects line up to the Left side of your artboard when in Align to Artboard Mode.

Image (7) Align Selected Object(s) To Vertical Center This button will align selected objects according to their Vertical Center, when in Align to Other Objects Mode. It will align any selected objects to the Vertical Center of your artboard when in Align to Artboard Mode.

Image (8) Align Selected Object(s) Right This button will align any object(s) you select to the object which is farthest Right on your artboard, or even outside of your artboard margins when in align to other objects mode. It will make all objects line up to the Right side of your artboard when in Align to Artboard Mode.

Image (9) Aligns Selected Objects to Top This button will align any object(s) you select to the object which is at the Top of your artboard, or even outside of your artboard margins when in Align to Other Objects Mode. It will make all objects line up to the Top of your artboard when in Align to Artboard Mode.

Image (10) Aligns Selected Objects to Horizontal Center This button will align any object(s) you select according to their Horizontal Center when in Align to Other Objects Mode. It will align all selected objects to the Horizontal center of your artboard when in Align to Artboard Mode.

Image (11) Aligns Selected Objects to Bottom This button will align any object(s) you select to the object which is at the Bottom of your artboard, or even outside of your artboard margins when in Align to Other Objects Mode. It will make all objects line up to the Bottom of your artboard when in Align to Artboard Mode.

Image (12) Evenly Distributes Selected Objects Vertically According to the Top This button will evenly distribute any object(s) you select vertically within the space between the upper most and bottom most objects according to the Top of the selected items when in Align to Other Objects Mode. It will scatter the objects across your artboard when in Align to Artboard Mode. When using any of the (3) Horizontal Distribute Buttons shown in images 12, 13 and 14 selected objects should be within a single column or it will scatter objects across your artboard, just as it will when in Align to Artboard Mode.

Image (13) Evenly Distributes Selected Objects Vertically According to Their Center Point This button will evenly distribute any object(s) you select vertically within the space between the upper most and bottom most objects according to the Center of the selected items when in Align to Other Objects Mode. It will scatter the objects across your artboard when in Align to Artboard Mode. When using any of the (3) Horizontal Distribute Buttons shown in images 12, 13 and 14 selected objects should be within a single column or it will scatter objects across your artboard, just as it will when in Align to Artboard Mode.

Image (14) Evenly Distributes Selected Objects Vertically According to their Bottom This button will evenly distribute any object(s) you select vertically within the space between the Top Most and Bottom Most objects according to the Bottom of the selected items when in Align to Other Objects Mode. It will scatter the objects across your artboard when in Align to Artboard Mode. When using any of the (3) Vertical Distribute Buttons shown in images 12, 13 and 14 selected objects should be within a single column or it will scatter objects across your artboard, just as it will when in Align to Artboard Mode.

When using any of the (3) Horizontal Distribute Buttons shown in images 15, 16 and 17 selected objects should be within a single column or it will scatter objects across your artboard, just as it will when in Align to Artboard Mode.
