In this frame, we see the fully-formed Xenomorph for the first time in the movie. He's positioned in the rafters above the character and is positioned in a christ-like pose. The positioning of the creature can be interpreted in many ways; it could symbolize the coming of death, the coming of a supernatural force or even the image that this creature itself is a God. I believe the camera was positioned like this for the sole purpose of the audience to interpret just what this creature could be, whether it is just a God or a simple alien. As an audience member, you know the descent of the creature is coming so the shot of the Xenomorph in this position raises tension amongst the audience and horror as the knowledge of the creature being above the soon to be victim makes you scared not only for the character below, but also for us as the audience to see what may happen. TRANSCRIPT

In this frame, we see the fully-formed Xenomorph for the first time in the movie. He's positioned in the rafters above the character and is positioned in a

christ-like pose. The positioning of the creature can be interpreted in many ways; it could symbolize the coming of death, the coming of a supernatural

force or even the image that this creature itself is a God. I believe the camera was positioned like this for the sole purpose of the audience to interpret just

what this creature could be, whether it is just a God or a simple alien. As an audience member, you know the descent of the creature is coming so

the shot of the Xenomorph in this position raises tension amongst the audience and horror as the knowledge of the creature being above the soon

to be victim makes you scared not only for the character below, but also for us as the audience to see what may happen.

Scene 1 - Alien Christ

This is a classic shot used in many movies where the symbol of evil comes face to face with the good character. This is used in various movies of all different genres, the coming together of two people, creatures or forces to create the

tension and anticipation of an action or showdown. However, in a typical shot like this, its the showdown of polar opposite

forces or equally matches foes. However, this shot depicts the confrontation between a fearless creature and a fearful man. If the allegory behind the previous shot is to be interpreted as

the Alien being a God, it could be viewed as the ultimate confrontation between God and man which makes the

imagery so much more vivid and horrifying. This would also tie-in with the stereotype of the God-fearing man and what it

would be like to come face to face with one.

Scene 2 - Human vs. Alien

This shot also allows us as an audience to see the very real fear that somebody is expected to feel in a

situation like this. The positioning of the camera allows the frame to capture the fearful nature of the

Xenomorph and the petrifying fear caught on the mans face. There's not a flicker or a sign in the mans face that he is going to turn around or even run, his face portrays a very real fear but also a trance-like

stare that could only come from the positioning of the shot.

This shot of the Xenomorphs tail sliding around the leg is incredibly

effective from a horror perspective but also from a perspective of

interpretation. The tail sliding up the leg builds tension and atmosphere at

the idea of this Alien being very capable of swooping this mans leg up

at any given moment, but the anticipation of it builds dread among the audience at the knowledge this

creature is playing with the man. The way the tail is wrapped around the

mans leg is a great symbol of the man being trapped in the aliens grasp, despite the actual move not being

made.

Scene 3 - Tail on the leg

The cat witnessing the kill is not only horrifying but also very interesting. The green cold stare shows how this cat has

remained unaffected by what has happened to the man searching for it and

there's a sick perverse interest the cat seems to display whilst watching his searcher be dragged to his death. I

believe the cold callous nature of the stare is meant to symbolize the same

emotion the Xenomorph may feel and the seeming interest in the situation is a

representation of how we feel while watching the scene play out.
