P R E S E N T A T I O N L E T T E RSince I start developing my own professional way, both from academia and training experiences, I was influenced by different incitements. To live different cities, to meet qualified people, to firmly work during the academic career, to join projects and competitions, to face the professional world, are all experiences that make me grow. In particular, one theme thrills me and caught my attention: temporary architecture. Both my attitude and the research made, make me think this could be a good choice for the future of construction field and that I could be the person that makes it succeed. At the same time, my studies took me to knew and deepen the dynamics behind the evolution of the territory and the choices of urban planning. I believe this study perfectly match with the needs of a flexible architecture that is going to serve the public, the mutable society. What I desire now is therefore to grow from a technical point, to understand the specific nature of lightweight architecture, and to put to use my knowledge with built the relationship between places and these new kind

of spaces, taking my passion in the professional field.

The first idea for the project was to use a giant inflatable structure. It will be installed and dismantled in just a few minutes and it will be recognizable from a long distance for its shining colors. In the reality it can’t exist, so the project mixed a standard metal box with a plastic textile wall that can easily be stored in it, ensuring a convenient storage and transportation system. The structure that connects the initial and final metallic shells is a free-standing folding pavement that allow the closing movement. In the hard part are installed all the plants and the bathroom, while the proper room, for 1/2 people, is inside the inflated part. The unit itself is assembled in factory, reducing the on-site installation operations, while in the building layout a scaffold system ensures the connections. All the pieces to install a working prototype building of 18 units

can be stored on four tracks.

The apartment is a transparent, shining envelope made of packaging materials that interact with the surroundings. Its structure is a modular scaffolding frame that leaves open the possibility of different layouts, customization of the space, of adaptation to different places. For this reason, is accounted both the independent and the parasite solution, in energy, structural and architectural terms. The project aims to have a green approach, including an energy-generation bike station, the study of a greenhouse effect combined with a thermal bag blanket for insulation and the possibility of reuse or recycle the components. The construction process to have a ready-to-go house includes few easy steps: install and fix the scaffolding, wrap it with the cellophane film inserting among the layers the frames for openings and furniture tools, create the windows cutting the plastic film in correspondence of the fixtures, cover the interiors with the polyethylene foam sheet and connect the thermal bags layer to the structure as

a removable skin.

“Philosophy and feelings into the garden” award: 1st prize

year: 2013partners: Leonardo Citterio, Ettore Santilocation: Cazzago San Martino, BS, Italy

duties: concept, design, 2D graphic workskeywords: temporary garden, fiery installation, tree species

The project won the gardening competition held during the flower fiery “Franciacorta in Fiore 2013”. The requirement was to design a 7x7 meters garden reflecting the emotional approach of the architect to a green space, and therefore the project is planned as a garden of discovery. The original square is disrupted in smaller “green scraps” and then reassembled, creating a kaleidoscopic overall design. Walking through the jagged path, the visitor will experience an area used as a vegetable garden, a smelling spot, the relaxing shadow of cherry trees, a small playground and a contemplative space characterized by the presence of water and hidden behind a scenic wall. The smallness of the garden becomes the generator element of a multiple space. Finally, since the project has been installed for just one week in the garden of an historic villa, the different sections were made by wooden tanks, to facilitate the placement and removal of plants, while the OSB panels has been easily

disassembled and reused.

post-expo masterplan, sport city

In the post-expo scenario is proposed a sport city, one of the real transforming possibilities for this peripheral area. The project will include not only sport facilities, that are the real organizing principle of the central park, but also more canonical functions all inflected towards the wellness theme. The housing, the offices, the university, is designed to have a special relation to the outdoor space and the physical activity. The urban approach towards the area is therefore to build only along the borders and leave a big equipped green core organized on two levels, the upper one defined by the housing proximity with a relaxed character, the lower one related to the sport activities. The sinuous edged wall, including all the functions, is broken or strengthen in some strategic spots in response to the surrounding situation. Closing the central sport crack arises the football stadium with the parking screen

slab, the real landmarks of the area.

dump rehabilitation, phytoremediation

The Iglesias’s mine area is characterized by a large complex of buildings and equipment descend from the 150 years mine activities ended in the 1990s. The mining operations were so intense to transform the surrounding landscape and to pollute it with a heavy metal red mug area and a residual dump. The rainfalls falling in this area are consequently contaminated and with their flow transport the harmful components to the underneath valley and river. The project, therefore, includes the resanation of land and water thanks to a phytoremediation intervention and at the same time to convert the buildings in a biomass power plant and researching spaces. Half of the cultivations, especially white mustard and pistachio plants, are active crops for the resanation while the other half is biomass producers. The ancient railway and the current roads are transformed in thematic paths along which are set out equipped spots for educational activities.

urban housing, lilong neighborhood

Lilong housing, literally “li” 里, neighborhood, and “long” 弄, lanes, originated as a response to the needs of a rapidly growing Shanghai at the end of the 19th century. During the last decades, however, the housing asset has been in a complete state of transformation because of a rapid development not in line with the traditions: a completely different western model has replaced the large demolished areas of the city’s historical heritage. Where survived, the lilong has lost its original character and only the external appearance is left. In light of this compromised situation, a typomorphologic analysis is produced, to understand the principles organizing Shanghai’s urban form and hence its cultural identity, evident in the vivid life of lilong alleys. The lilong neighborhood is therefore compared to the contemporary high-rise compound model, and finally a settlement strategy is proposed. The prototype solution is the result of an experimental project in Hongkou District.
