Pediatric Wing

This project entailed on redoing a children’s wing at Cleveland Clinic Hospital. It was a group project completed with a fellow student. The scope of the project included a reception area, generic patient room, hallway and nurses desk, and playroom. An aperture is a space through which light passes, with a variable opening. The size of an aperture affects the amount of focus on the subject in relation to their background. This design of the Cleveland Clinic’s Pediatric and Adolescent Unit shifts the focus of the patients and their families from the typical sterile hospital experience to a calming environment that feels more like home. The forms of an aperture were extruded and ar-ranged through a series of sketches. These motifs became a critical design element throughout the spaces. They provided interest, cohesion, and familiarity that allow the patients and their families to feel more comfortable. Because of a child’s strong association with shapes, the design called for the use of a repetitive, playful motif.

Luxury Car Garage

This project entailed designing a luxury car garage for an avid car collector, in conjunction with Club Motor Estates. This collector was looking not only for a place to store their cars, but a space to entertain and show them off. The client was an appreciator of the artistry of the cars, and wanted a sculptural space that would become a conversation piece.The space is based around several circle axis’ that bring the viewers eye around the space. This is based off of the motion of stirring. The space is designed to stir a personally emotionally, and make them want to move into the space and see what it is about.

Coworking Space

This design competition for Steelcase encompassed designing a co-working space in an existing building in Atlanta, Ga. This space encompassed two floors, part of the first floor being in use by various retail stores.The client was looking for a space that would seam-lessly integrate the people and technology within the building, while giving employees a choice of how and where to work. There are four established zones within the space; socialize, focus, collaborate, and resource. Adjacent spaces were woven together with proximity and vertical and horizontal material elements that established con-nections between spaces.

Restaurant

1,300 sq. ft.

This restaurant draws influence from the city of Amsterdam. A mix of old, classic materials like brick, and new materials in the lighting and furniture choices.The restaurant provides customers access to varying levels of privacy. The open dining area is designed to give an intimate feeling while still feeling part of the bigger, shared experience. The private dining area gives more acoustical and visual privacy, giving the customers a feeling of intimacy with their immediate company. The bar is the buffer between these two areas, creating a more social zone.

Open Dining Area

The plans draw influence from plans of the city of Amsterdam. The partitions in the open dining area have a lit water feature to mimic the canals and how they are lit up by the streetlights at night. The warm glow throughout the rest of the restaurant is also based on Amsterdam at nighttime, specifically the streetlamps on the brick roads.

Tire Retail Store

2,560 sq. ft

The objective of this two week, conceptual project was to redefine the tire store. Often we think of the tire store as a necessary evil- it is not somewhere we enjoy going. This project was meant to challenge those perceptions by creating an enjoyable environment for the customer.In this store the customer has a choice of where they want to spend their time as they progress into the space- these areas include a food area, a study lounge area, and an entertainment area. This gives the cus-tomer more control over their experience, and since these areas are removed from the sales areas, it makes the customers feel less like they are in a store and more like they are in a casual environment.
