Alexander the Great History Paper

Alexander the Great was a very well known individual. As Alexander quoted There is nothing impossible

to him who will try. He was a leader at a young age when at an age of eighteen he first led troops. At

eighteen Alexander won the first battle that he was involved in the Battle of Chaeronea. In this battle he

commanded the cavalry. He was influential in the fact that he conquered most of the known world

before he died. He was a known threat to people and armies in his time as he destroyed all of the armies

that tried to defeat him. Alexander the Great was referred to from the Persians as King of Kings.

Alexander was known as the greatest military commander of the ancient world. What brought

Alexander the Great so much success? (Thompson 110-111)

Thesis: Alexander the Great from Pella Macedonia (now Greece) was a military commander who fought

and won his first battle at the age of eighteen and he also is known as one of the greatest military

commanders.

Alexanders life begun on 356, in Pella Macedonia (now Greece). He was born of Phillip the Second of

Macedon and Olympus of Epirus. Many say that Alexander also learned from imitating others. He mostly

learned from his tutor Aristotle. Aristotle taught him in many different subjects and areas including

rhetoric and literature. He was said to have had an interest of science medicine and philosophy.

Alexander the Greats father was also a good leader. At this time the Persian Empire was dominating the

ancient world. Phillip the Second (Alexanders father) was a great leader himself as he established a

army and established the Macedonian Kingdom. He was also at the time of his death planning a invasion

of the Persian Empire. Leaving Macedonia to attack Byzantium in 340. Phil lip the Second left his son to

defend Macedonia by himself. This worked wonderfully as Alexander defended his fathers kingdom.

With ease Alexander the Great defended his fathers kingdom defeating the Thracian Maedi and

commanding the army at the Battle of Chaeronea. This was the first example of leadership that really

showed that he had the stuff to become a world dominating leader. But his chances of being a leader

were jeopardized as his father and mother divorced. Even so Alexander reconciled with his father. This

after all was a good thing to reconcile with his father as he was assassinated in 336 by the dagger of his

own guards. After his fathers death at the age of 20 years old Alexander succeeded his father. After he

succeeded his dad the first thing he did was execute those who were responsible for his fathers murder

and all his rivals. In 332, after securing the eastern edge of the Aegean he went to Egypt to claim them

as a part of the Greek Empire. They did this and in doing this Alexander was crowned Pharaoh. And on a

natural harbour Alexander named a city after himself and it was called Alexandria. This was the

beginning of utter dominance and control of the world for Alexander. (Borza Alexander the Great Article

342-343)

Some important details of his career are that he was known almost right away to be a born leader. He

was not just an army commander and leader he was also a very learned person. He was known to be the

best commander and leaders of all of the ancient world. He even made the great commanders jealous

because of all of his success. After an eight year campaign he had gained a huge massive empire. He

was not finished yet though. After this all the men that helped Alexander were weary and obviously

wanted a break Alexander granted this even though he still wanted to expand. Alexander was a caring

military leader it is said because he visited his men and warriors after battle and praised them for there

fearless efforts.

The significance of Alexander the Great is huge, this is one of the biggest events in all of world history

because of Alexander the Great that raised the standard. He made people really more interested in

history because of his crazy domination of the world. He was the ruler of the known world and he was a

interesting person in history. He was influential to many historians who praised him.
