Sport is life Some people consider sports useless waste of

time. But I don't think so. My favourite sports are cycling and beach volleyball. And in free time I go to the gym. I admire athletes who have achieved excellent success. I am especially proud of my countrymen. One of them is the world famous boxer Alexander Povetkin.

Brief information

Alexander Vladimirovich Povetkin was born on the 2 of September 1979 in Kursk, Russia.

Finished Kursk School № 9, Vocational school № 27, graduated from Moscow State University.

Alexander is a Russian professional boxer. Undefeated as of June 2013, Povetkin currently holds

the World Boxing Association’s “regular” Heavyweight Championship, a title he won on 27 August 2011 by defeating former champion Ruslan Chagaev in a bout to fill the vacancy caused when the WBA decided to promote its then-champion Vladimir Klitschko to "super champion" status.

Since 2012 Povetkin has been coached by former super lightweight world champion Kostya Tszyu.

Amateur Boxing Povetkin won his first major boxing tournament at the

Russian Championships in 2000 at the age of 21. That was the beginning of several major amateur tournaments Povetkin would go on to win. After taking Olympic Gold in Athens in 2004, he concluded his amateur career with a record of 125–7, with all losses avenged.

Interesting facts Among Povetkin's hobbies we can name wushu, hand-to-

hand fight and karate. His idol was the well-known film actor Bruce Li.

Alexander Povetkin comes to a ring to the music of Nikolay Emelin’s "Russia".

Pride of Kursk Region In each region there are people who have made great contribution to the

development its industry, culture, sports. In Kursk region many athletes were born, grew up and have achieved world recognition, among them is Alexander Povetkin. I respect this athlete for his perseverance, strength of character, courage and will to win. And I believe that we should be proud of my countryman Alesander who has reached great success in boxing and has contributed to the development of sports. He serves as a good example of best men’s qualities and inspiration for my peers. Viva, Alexander!
