James 1:14-16 (AMP)14 - But each one is tempted when he is dragged away, enticed and baited [to commit sin] by his own [worldly] desire (lust, passion). 15 - Then when the illicit desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin has run its course, it gives birth to death. 16 - Do not be misled, my beloved brothers and sisters.

Philippians 4:13 (TLB)13 - for I can do everything God asks me to with the help of Christ who gives me the strength and power.

II. True victory is when your SOUL (mind, will and impulses) is no longer controlled by the world but by God’s Word.

I John 5:4-54 - For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. 5 - And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

bad habits and addictions

1. Ask yourself, what are the circumstances or stresses that push you back into bad habits?

Hebrews 12:1 (NLT)...let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.

2. Understand, Satan uses negative emotions to seduce you into wanting to soothe emotional pain. Totally submit yourself to God’s Word and build a legitimate prayer life and relationship with Christ.

Proverbs 14:8Living Bible8 The wise man looks ahead. The fool attempts to fool himself and won’t face facts.

3. Ask yourself, “What is the pleasure I get from this habit or addiction?” Whatever feeling you get from engaging in your bad habit reveals the empty hole in your soul.

Proverbs 4:26-27 (TLB)26 - Watch your step. Stick to the path and be safe. 27 - Don’t sidetrack; pull back your foot from danger.

2 Corinthians 10:3-53 - For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:4 - (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

(MSG) - 5 - We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies [twisted out of shape or distorted thinking], tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ.
