    A Hallmark of the Aldrich TraditionOur QC/QA team of over 100 chemists and technicians atour manufacturing sites in USA and Europe, analyze allAldrich products with ~ 5 tests/product on the average.Assays range from simple solubility and melting pointdeterminations, to various titrations, FT-IR, CapillaryGC, HPLC, Multinuclear NMR, GPC/MALLS, DSC,ICP, etc.

    Figure 2 ( below) shows the use of the powerful NMRspectroscopic tool in characterizing the stereotacticcomposition of a poly(methyl methacrylate) sample (AldrichCatalog No. 45,213-0 Lot: 10694CU).

    Figure 3 shows the DSC thermograms for apolystyrene sample (Aldrich Catalog No. 45,038-3Lot: 06213EU) prior to and following thermal quenching. Thestarting material is isotactic with a well defined melting tran-sition (see Figure 3A). The almost complete conversion toan amorphous state following quenching is evident fromthe glass transition and the absence of the melting transition(see Figure 3B). The glass transition causes anendothermic shift in the baseline because of the samplesincreased heat capacity. Aging effects tend to shift thebaseline in the reverse direction.

    Commonly used names and acronyms can also be found in this section, cross-referenced to the systematic name.
