February is upon us. One of the things we think about in February is Valentine’s Day. I remember as a child we were “asked” by our teachers to give valentines cards with those hard candies with little sayings on them to members of our class at school. So my mom would take me to S.S. Kresge’s in downtown Chattanooga and we would buy the candy and the cards.

I didn’t mind going to Kresge’s, in fact I liked going there, because they had a little place where you could buy fountain drinks and milk shakes, and mom always bought us a milkshake or a malt. What I didn’t like was spending money on candy and cards for people I really didn’t want to give them to, especially girls. Funny how the need to give gifts to girls changed over the years, but I digress. We bought the gifts, wrote the names of my fellow students on them, and gave them out on Valentine’s Day. We had to act like we liked everyone, even if we didn’t.

It’s interesting, that some of the people I did not want to give the cards to became some of my best friends. In fact, eight of the students in first grade with me, also graduated high school with me. One of the mysteries of life is how God places different people into our lives so their journey becomes part of our journey.

As we celebrate being the church this Valentine’s day, remember it is not just who you have loved, or who we love now, but it is also those persons God will bring to our church and lives, that we will learn to love as God loves us. May the blessing of the Holy Spirit be with us as we celebrate God’s love for everyone.

WE WILL NOT BE MEETING IN FEBRUARY!

We are going to see the Neil Simon play "Barefoot in the

Park" in Crossville on Tuesday, February 12. The story is

about newlyweds--he's a straight -as-an-arrow lawyer and

she's a free spirit always looking for the latest kick. The play

starts at 2:00 EST so we will meet at 12:15 in Fowler

Hall. Tickets are $28 +$2:00 for gas. Call Liz at 522-5573 to

reserve your ticket. We welcome ALL to join us for the fun!

We will stop at the Cracker Barrel on the way home.
