1 About the Reference Manual
This reference manual informs you about the installation and the safe handling
and use of the instrument. Make sure that the reference manual is easily
accessible to all personnel involved with the instrument. Pay special attention to
the safety instructions and warnings in the manual and on the instrument.

the correct use and safe functioning of Alcolyzer Plus Beer.

associated with the use of the instrument and samples. It is your
responsibility to establish health and safety practices and determine the
applicability of regulatory limitations.
Anton Paar GmbH only warrants the proper functioning of Alcolyzer Plus
Beer if no adjustments have been made to the mechanics, electronics, and
firmware.
Only use Alcolyzer Plus Beer for the purpose described in this reference
manual. Anton Paar GmbH is not liable for damages caused by incorrect use

Installation and use
Alcolyzer Plus Beer is not an explosion-proof instrument and therefore must
not be operated in areas with risk of explosion.
The installation procedure shall only be carried out by authorized personnel
who are familiar with the installation instructions.
Do not use any accessories or wearing parts other than those supplied or
approved by Anton Paar GmbH.
Make sure all operators are trained to use the instrument safely and correctly
before starting any applicable operations.
In case of damage or malfunction, do not continue operating Alcolyzer Plus
Beer. Do not operate the instrument under conditions which could result in
damage to goods and/or injuries and loss of life.
Check Alcolyzer Plus Beer for chemical resistance to the samples and
cleaning agents.
Maintenance and service
The results delivered by Alcolyzer Plus Beer not only depend on the correct
function of the instrument, but also on various other factors. We therefore
recommend to have the results checked (e.g. plausibility tested) by skilled
personnel before consequential actions are taken based on the results.
Service and repair procedures may only be carried out by authorizedpersonnel or by Anton Paar GmbH.
Disposal
Concerning the disposal of Alcolyzer Plus Beer, observe the legal
requirements in your country.
Precautions for highly flammable samples and cleaning agents
Observe and adhere to your national safety regulations for handling the
measured samples (e.g. use of safety goggles, gloves, respiratory protection
etc.).
Only store the minimum required amount of sample, cleaning agents and
other inflammable materials near the Alcolyzer Plus Beer.
Do not spill sample/cleaning agents or leave their containers uncovered.
Immediately remove spilled sample/cleaning agents.
Make sure that the setup location is sufficiently ventilated. The environment
of Alcolyzer Plus Beer must be kept free of inflammable gases and vapors.

Connect Alcolyzer Plus Beer to the mains via a safety switch located at a
safe distance from the instrument. In an emergency, turn off the power using
this switch instead of the power switch on Alcolyzer Plus Beer.
Supply a fire extinction unit.
Ensure the sufficient supervision of Alcolyzer Plus Beer during operation.
3 About Alcolyzer Plus Beer
Alcolyzer Plus Beer is based on a highly accurate and patented NIR
spectrometer, which measures the alcohol content of beer in the concentration
range of 0 - 12%V/V.
Optionally, Alcolyzer Plus Beer can also be equipped with a color measurement
device and a pH measurement device. The color value (EBC or ASBC value) is
determined by the measurement of light absorption. For the pH measurement, an
electrode Hamilton (Polilyte Lab) or a measuring cell Orion (model 91-63) is used.
In combination with an Anton Paar density meter DMA 4500/5000 and a sample
changer SP-1m, the automatic determination of relevant beer parameters can be
achieved.
4 Testing the Supplied PartsAlcolyzer Plus Beer was tested and packed carefully before shipment. However,
damage may occur during transport.
1. Keep the packaging material (box, foam piece, transport protection) for
possible returns and further questions from the transport and insurance
company.
2. Check the delivery for completion by comparing the supplied parts to those
noted in Table 4.1.
3. If a part is missing, contact your Anton Paar representative.
4. If a part is damaged, contact the transport company and your Anton Paar
representative.

5.1 Installing the Instruments
1. Put SP-1m into operation as described in the SP-1m instruction manual.
2. Connect the power cord of SP-1m to a power terminal with ground
connection.
3. Place the density meter on SP-1m.
4. Connect the connecting power cable (SP-1m accessory, Mat. No. 66178) to
the power outlet of SP-1m and the power outlet of the DMA.
5. Mount the filling nozzle fittings as described in the SP-1m instruction manual.
6. Place Alcolyzer Plus Beer on top of the density meter.
7. Connect the power cord of Alcolyzer Plus Beer to a power terminal with
ground connection.

Alcolyzer Plus Beer does not require any special installation conditions.
Conditions in the installation area should be those in a typical laboratory.
To guarantee temperature stability, do not place Alcolyzer Plus Beer
- near a heater
- near an air conditioner
- in direct sunlight.
For air humidity restrictions seeAppendix D.
Caution:
To ensure the correct functioning of the built-in ventilator, make sure the
airflow at the bottom and the rear of the instrument is not blocked.

8. Screw the filling nozzle fittings Alcolyzer Plus (accessory box) into the
openings of the measuring cell.
9. If the option pH/color is integrated, check that 2# Filling nozzle Luer
Alcolyzer Plus adapters are screwed into the openings of the pH measuring
cell (see Fig. 5 - 1).

10. Connect COM2 at the rear of Alcolyzer Plus Beer to COM1 at the rear of
DMA 4500/5000 using the connection cable (Mat. No. 2359).
11. If a printer is used, connect the printer interface cable to COM1 at the rear of
Alcolyzer Plus Beer.
12. Connect the interface cable of SP-1m to the S-Bus outlet of Alcolyzer Plus
Beer.
Caution:
Screw the adapters into the openings of the measuring cell hand-tight(without using any tools). Otherwise, the connections between the adapters
and the measuring cell are not leak-tight and liquid may enter the electronics
and affect operation.
Caution:
Before switching on Alcolyzer Plus Beer, check that the given voltage and
frequency (AC100 to 240 V, 50 to 60 Hz) corresponds with the local mains
voltage and mains frequency. If large voltage fluctuations are to be
expected, the use of a constant voltage source (UPS) is recommended.
The non-fused earth conductor of the power cord must be connected to
earth.

5.2 Mounting the pH Electrode
5.2.1 Preparing and Mounting the pH Electrode "Hamilton
Polilyte Lab"
Preparing
1. Leave the pH electrode in an upright position for at least one hour.
2. Carefully remove the watering cap.
3. Flush the electrode with distilled water.
4. Check the inside of the electrode for unwanted air bubbles. Shaking the
electrode like a clinical thermometer will cause any bubbles to rise to the top.
Mounting
1. Loosen the protective tube by twisting it counterclockwise (see Fig. 5 - 2).

2. Screw the connecting cable (Mat. No. 62521) to the rear end of the pH
electrode.
3. Connect the other end of the cable to the rear of Alcolyzer Plus Beer (see
Chapter 6.2).
4. Insert the pH electrode into the protective tube carefully until the end of the
electrode touches the bottom of the pH measuring cell.
5. Tighten the protective tube by turning it clockwise.
The pH electrode is fixed.

6. Check that both Filling nozzle Luer Alcolyzer Plus are screwed into the
openings of the pH measuring cell (see Fig. 5 - 1).
5.2.2 Preparing and Mounting the pH Electrode "Orion
model 91-63"
Preparing
1. Remove the protective shipping cap from the sensing element and save for
storage.
2. Clean any salt deposits from the exterior by rinsing with distilled water.
3. Uncover the filling hole and add filling solution to the electrode.
4. Place the pH electrode in the electrode holder and suspend in air for 15
minutes to thoroughly wet the reference junction.
5. Shake the electrode (like a clinical thermometer) to remove air bubbles.
6. Soak the electrode in pH electrode storage solution for one hour.
Information:
To maintain an adequate flow rate, the level of filling solution must always
be above the reference junction.
The filling hole must be open whenever the electrode is in use.
Caution:
Once the junction is wet, do not allow the electrode to dry out.

Mounting
1. Screw the connecting cable (Mat. No. 62521) to the rear end of the pH
electrode.
2. Connect the other end of the cable to the rear of Alcolyzer Plus Beer (see
Chapter 6.2).
3. Insert the pH electrode into the pH measuring cell carefully until the end of
the electrode touches the bottom of the pH measuring cell.

4. Tighten the knurled nut (see Fig. 5 - 4). The pH electrode is fixed.
5. Check that both Filling nozzle Luer Alcolyzer Plus are screwed into the
openings of the pH measuring cell (see Fig. 5 - 1).

1. Cut a piece of the silicone hose 3 x 5 mm (1) approx. 24 cm in length.
2. Connect one end of the hose to the air pump outlet of the DMA.
3. Connect the Adapter Luer cone to the other end of the hose.
4. Connect a Tygon hose (2) approx. 26 cm in length to the upper end of the
SP-1m needle and to the front adapter of the density meter.
5. Connect a Tygon hose (3) approx. 22 cm in length to the rear adapter of the
density meter and to the lower adapter of Alcolyzer Plus Beer.
6. Connect a Tygon hose (4) approx. 22 cm in length to the upper adapter of
Alcolyzer Plus Beer.
7. Connect the tube, Mat. No. 67982, (5) to the other end of the hose.
8. Connect a silicone hose 2x4 mm (6) to the tube.
9. Lead the silicone hose via the peristaltic pump of SP-1m to a waste vessel.
10. The length of this hose can be selected according to the distance of the
waste vessel.

11. Connect a 2x4 mm silicone hose (8) to the rear adapter of the pH measuring
cell.
12. Lead this hose to a waste vessel.
13. Select the length of this hose according to the distance of the waste vessel.
5.5 Completing the Installation
1. Turn on the SP-1m and the density meter and wait for the initialization of
both instruments to be completed.
2. Configure the DMA 4500/5000 according toAppendix F.
3. Turn on Alcolyzer Plus Beer using the power switch at the rear of the
instrument.
4. Select the menu instrument settings > device listand configure the device
list as follows (for details about operating the menu, see Chapter 15.1):
Caution:
Before switching on Alcolyzer Plus Beer, check that the given voltage and
frequency (AC 100 to 240 V, 50 to 60 Hz) corresponds with the local
mains voltage and mains frequency. If large voltage fluctuations are to be
expected, the use of a constant voltage source (UPS) is recommended.
The non-fused earth conductor of the power cord must be connected to
earth.

Once switched on, Alcolyzer Plus Beer performs a system check and anattemperating procedure:
After transport, full stabilization of Alcolyzer Plus Beer might take up to
one day.
Usually Alcolyzer Plus Beer is ready for measurement after a start-up

5.6.1 Connecting Alcolyzer Plus Beer to a Printer
Connect the printer cable (Mat. No. 64433) to the COM1 on the rear side of
Alcolyzer Plus Beer.
Depending on the printer that you use, you can choose between 4 different printer
types for optimal communication between the connected printer and Alcolyzer
Plus.
Set the COM1 interface to the appropriate printer in the menu instrument
settings > COM1.
5.6.2 Connecting Alcolyzer Plus Beer to a PC
To transfer the measured results to a PC, connect the PC to Alcolyzer Plus Beer.
For further details, seeAppendix F.
1. Connect the interface cable DMA-PC (Mat. No. 72979) to the PC and to

The alcohol content is displayed in %V/V (2 trailing digits) at 20C (percent
volume per volume at the indicated temperature). If the measurement is not
finished, "....." is displayed. As long as the measurement is still in progress
("predetermined"), only one trailing digit is displayed. If the measuring resultis lower than -0.50%V/V or higher than 30.00%V/V, "low" or "high" is
displayed.
The color measurement is displayed in EBC or ASBC with one trailing digit

7.4 Setting a Custom Function
You can define customized ethanol tables and color units.
7.4.1 Setting a User-Defined Ethanol Table (in %V/V)
If you want to use a different density/ethanol table than the OIML %V/V table, you
can edit a polynomial function (4th order) that calculates an ethanol value based
on your specific density/ethanol table.
Calculating the coefficients
The input value for the polynomial function is the ethanol %V/V value (c)
measured by Alcolyzer Plus Beer. The result of the calculation depends on the
entered coefficients according to the following formula.
Polynomial formula: Output (%V/V) = A0 + A1 x (c [%V/V]) + A2 x (c [%V/V]) 2+

The default values are the polynomial coefficients valid for the OIML %V/V table(see Fig. 7 - 5).

1. To calculate the coefficients, take the appropriate table (%V/V) that converts
the measured density into a corresponding ethanol value.
2. By using an appropriate mathematical program, you can calculate the
polynomial coefficients which are based on the table data.

2. Enter the 5 polynomial coefficients (A0 to A4) as calculated.

8.1 Description of the Measuring Methods
Alcolyzer Plus Beer provides 10 different methods:

Method 5: MOLASSES
Method for molasses. Molasses is a honey-like, dark-brown sugar syrup which is
used as a fermentation raw material in the production of bioethanol. With this
method, you can determine the ethanol content of fermenting or ready-fermented
molasses.
Methods 6 to 10:
These methods are sample-specific and can be edited as described in Chapter
8.2.
8.2 Editing a Measuring Method
8.2.1 Editing a Predefined Method
You can edit the predefined methods "BEER", "CIDER", "SOFT DRINK", "WASH"
or "MOLASSES" to assign another printer protocol or enter a residual CO2content.
1. In the menu method settings, select one of the predefined methods and
confirm with .
2. In protocol no.:, you can select one of 10 printer protocols to assign it to the
selected method (For editing a printer protocol, see Chapter 7.5.2).
8.2.2 Editing a New Method
You can edit a new method to assign a special printer protocol (see Chapter 7.5.2)
or to enter a sample-specific alcohol correction factor (see Chapter 12.4). For the
types "BEER", "CIDER" and "SOFT DRINK", the residual CO2can be entered
(see Chapter 8.2.1).

To ensure that Alcolyzer Plus Beer gives correct results, check the adjustments
of the measured parameters regularly.
The integrated SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) allows you to perform an
automated control measurement of all measuring parameters as well as an
adjustment afterwards.
Carrying out the SOP
1. Select the menu utilities > SOP configuration and choose SOP #1 or
SOP #2.
"SOP #1" is defined as the "routine" SOP and contains the parameters water,
alcohol, pH1 and pH2.
2. Place the appropriate control solutions in the correct order into the sample
changer magazine (for preparing the control solutions, see Chapter 10).
The following control solutions are used for the SOP:
- Bi-distilled water to check the zero point of the alcohol and the color
adjustment
- A binary ethanol/water solution with an alcohol content of 8 to 12%V/V to
check the "known concentration" of the alcohol adjustment
- pH buffer pH 7.00 and
- pH buffer pH 4.01 to check the pH adjustment
3. Press the key in the measuring window of Alcolyzer Plus Beer to
access the following menu:

If no SOP (see Chapter 9) is carried out, check the adjustments regularly as
described below.
10.1 Checking Procedure without Option pH/Color
Before each series of measurements, check the zero point using degassed,
bi-distilled water.
To check the validity of the slope of the adjustment, use a water/ethanol
solution of known concentration. Perform a slope check at least once everyweek.
10.1.1 Performing a Checking Procedure with Water (0%V/V)
1. Boil fresh, bi-distilled water for several minutes to remove dissolved gas.
2. Fill a clean glass flask full with the boiled water and cover it.
3. Wait until the water has cooled down to 20 2C.
4. Clean the measuring cell as described in Chapter 14.
Information:
If one (or both) pH buffer deviates too much from the correct value, the
measured pH value and the measured temperature will be displayed in a
line below the SOP parameters after confirming the question "adjust ?".
The pH value can then be corrected according to the pH/temperature
table of the corresponding buffer.
The readjustment for the pH measurement is carried out for both
adjustment points simultaneously. Therefore, only one "adjust? is
displayed for both buffers.
Information:
For the color adjustment, it is only necessary to adjust the zero point with
bi-distilled water regularly. If it is desired to check also the known concentration for the color
measurement (e.g. with a standard beer or color standard) this parameter
can be added to the SOP. If the known concentration for the color
measurement shall be adjusted, the color value of the color standard can

5. Fill a sample vial with degassed, bi-distilled water and put it into the
magazine of the sample changer.
6. Press the key on the sample changer.
7. Wait until the measuring status displays "valid".
8. If the displayed value is 0 0.03%V/V and is stable for a few minutes,
measurements can be performed.
9. If the displayed value is outside this concentration range, clean the
measuring cell and perform another control measurement.
10. If the measuring result is still out of range (0 0.03%V/V) perform a zero
point adjustment (see Chapter 11.1.1).
11. If "no sample" is displayed, clean the measuring cells according to Chapter
14.1.3or Chapter 14.2.4(with option pH/color).
12. Then perform an adjustment for the zero point and for the known
concentration.
Checking the validity of the density adjustment
1. As soon as the DMA gives a valid result (flashing display), check the density
reading.
2. If the result deviates more than 0.0001 g/cm3(DMA 4500) or 0.00005 g/cm3
(DMA 5000) from the reference value (0.998203 g/cm3), perform a cleaning
procedure according to Chapter 14.
3. Repeat the checking procedure.
4. If the density result still exceeds the max. allowed deviation, perform an air/
water adjustment for the density meter (see Chapter 11.3).
Information:
If a density meter (DMA 4500, DMA 5000) is connected to Alcolyzer Plus
Beer, check also the validity of the density adjustment as described below.

10.1.2 Performing a Checking Procedure with a Water/
Ethanol Solution of Known Concentration
1. Prepare a water/ethanol solution with a concentration between 8 and
12%V/V.
2. Cover the flask and leave the solution for several hours at a temperature of
20 3C.
Before filling the measuring cell, the sample must be free of air bubbles.
3. Clean the measuring cell, if necessary (see Chapter 14).
4. Fill a sample vial with the water/ethanol solution and put it into the magazine
of the sample changer.
5. Press the key on the sample changer.
6. Wait until Alcolyzer Plus Beer and the DMA show "valid".
7. If the difference between the measuring values from Alcolyzer Plus Beer and
the DMA is less than 0.03%V/V and the results remain stable within this
range for a few minutes, the adjustment of Alcolyzer Plus Beer is correct.
8. If the displayed value is out of this range, clean the measuring cell andperform another control measurement.
9. If the measuring result is still out of range, perform an adjustment using a
water/ethanol solution (see Chapter 11.1.2).
Information:
This measurement can only be performed successfully if an accurate density
meter and an appropriate density / alcohol concentration table is available.
Caution:
Only use high-proof ethanol without denaturant!
Information:
If Alcolyzer Plus Beer is used in combination with a DMA 4500/5000, the
alcohol concentration is directly displayed on the density meter.

10.2.1 Checking Procedure for the Measuring Parameter
"alcohol"
The checking procedure for the measuring parameter "alcohol" is performed as
described in Chapter 10.1.
10.2.2 Checking Procedure for the Measuring Parameter "pH"
Check the validity of the pH adjustment with buffers pH 7 and pH 4 once a day
(before starting the routine measurements).
Control measurement for buffer pH 7
1. Fill a sample vial with buffer pH 7 and place it in the sample changer
magazine.
2. Press the key on the sample changer.
After filling is completed, the measurement starts automatically.
3. Wait until the pH value is displayed in the measuring window ("valid").
This value is valid for 25C.
4. If the difference between the measured pH value and the set point is less
than 0.05 pH units, the pH adjustment is correct.
5. If the displayed value is out of this range, fill the pH measuring cell with the
same buffer and repeat the control measurement.
Caution:
Always use fresh pH buffers.
Information:
Instead of using the sample changer, one of the following filling procedures
can be used:
Disconnect the silicone hose that is plugged to the front adapter of the pH
measuring cell. Fill a 20 mL syringe with the buffer. Connect the syringe to
the front adapter of the pH measuring cell and fill in the buffer.
Or:
Remove the pH electrode from the pH measuring cell and immerse the
electrode into a vessel filled with pH buffer. Ensure that the buffer
temperature does not deviate significantly from the temperature in the pH
measuring cell as the temperature sensor for the pH measurement is
located in the pH measuring cell.

10.2.3 Checking Procedure for the Measuring Parameter
"color"
Checking procedure with water (0.0 EBC)
This procedure should preferably be performed together with the checking
procedure for 0% alcohol (see Chapter 10.1.1)
1. If the displayed value is 0 0.3 EBC (0 0.15 ASBC), measurements can beperformed.
2. If the displayed value is out of this range, clean the measuring cells and
repeat the control measurement.
3. If the measuring result is still out of range, perform a "zero" adjustment (seeChapter 11.2.2).
11 Adjusting the Instrument
11.1 Adjustment without Option pH/Color
Regular adjustments are performed with degassed bi-distilled water (0%V/V
alcohol, zero point).
Extended adjustments are performed with degassed bi-distilled water and a
water/ethanol solution of exactly known concentration in the range of 2 to
30 %V/V, preferably 8 to 12%V/V.
An extended adjustment is necessary if the checking procedure with a water/
ethanol solution of known concentration shows deviations of more than
0.03 %V/V from the reference value, even after correct zero point
adjustment.
Information:
During the first months, usually a drift of the color value of approx. 0.1 EBC
per day can be observed. This drift (in the positive direction) is a result of a
decreasing LED intensity.

If the adjustment of Alcolyzer Plus Beer is properly performed, it is sufficient
to check only the zero point before each series of measurements.
11.1.1 Adjustment with Water (Zero Point)
1. Boil fresh, bi-distilled water for several minutes to remove dissolved gas.
2. Fill a clean glass flask full with the boiled water and cover it.
3. Wait until the water has cooled down to approx. 20 2C.
4. Select Alcolyzer Plus Beer menu adjustment > adjust alcohol > zero.
5. Answer the question "Do you really want to adjust?" with .
If there is no bi-distilled water in the measuring system, press on
Alcolyzer Plus Beer. Then press the key on the sample changer.
The bi-distilled water is now filled into the measuring system by the sample
changer. After the filling procedure is completed, the adjustment procedure
starts automatically.
If bi-distilled water has already been filled into the measuring system, press
the key instead of the key to start the adjustment
procedure immediately.
6. Wait until the adjustment has been completed.
Information:
Before the adjustment, Alcolyzer Plus Beer has to be turned on for at leastone hour. However, after transport full stabilization of Alcolyzer Plus Beer
might take up to one day.
The ambient temperature should be stable to < 3C.
Caution:
Before starting the adjustment, ensure that the measuring cells are properly
cleaned (see Chapter 14).

Information:
Additionally, the value S1 gives information about the measured signal
intensity of the current adjustment compared to the signal intensity at the
factory adjustment. This value decreases by-and-by due to ageing of the LED
and/or coating of the measuring cell.
If the S1 value is below 80%, clean the measuring cell thoroughly (see
Chapter 14) and repeat the zero adjustment. If the S1 value is still too low,
contact your Anton Paar representative.
Information:
After this adjustment we recommend performing the zero adjustment for the
optional color measurement because the bi-distilled water which is inside the
cells can be used for the zero adjustment of the color measurement.

The water/ethanol solution is now filled into the measuring system by the
sample changer. After the filling procedure is completed, the adjustment
procedure starts automatically.
If a DMA 4500/5000 is connected and configured properly (seeAppendix F),
"DMA: measuring" is displayed on Alcolyzer Plus Beer. As soon as "DMA:
valid" is displayed, the alcohol concentration that comes from the DMA is
displayed in the first line of Alcolyzer Plus Beer display and can be used
directly as the "known concentration" value for the adjustment.
7. Press the key to continue the adjustment.
8. Wait until the adjustment is finished.
Caution:
Only use high-proof ethanol without denaturant.
Information:
The concentration of the water/ethanol solution for the adjustment must be
between 2 and 30%V/V, preferably between 8 and 12%V/V alcohol.

11.2.2.1 Adjustment with Water (Zero)
1. Fill a clean sample vial with the delivered water standard (ultra pure water)
and place the vial in the sample magazine.
2. Select the menu adjustment > adjustment color > zero.
3. Answer the question "Do you really want to adjust?" with .
4. Press the key on Alcolyzer Plus Beer.
5. Press the key on the sample changer.
The ultra pure water is filled into the measuring system.
Information:
Alcohol solutions have a tendency to form gas bubbles. Handle the sample
with care.
Caution:
Before starting the adjustment, ensure that the measuring cells are properly
cleaned (see Chapter 14).

Check the validity of the pH adjustment with buffers pH 7 and pH 4 once a day

10.2.2.
For the pH buffers "Hamilton Duracal" the buffer data (pH value depending on the
temperature) are integrated in Alcolyzer Plus Beer.
If the pH electrode is adjusted with these buffers, the correct buffer data are
selected automatically.
If you use a different buffer to "Hamilton Duracal", the buffer data (pH value
depending on the temperature) can be entered in the menu edit buffer data. If
the pH electrode is then adjusted with these buffers, the correct buffer data areselected automatically.
Caution:
Always use fresh pH buffers.

11.2.3.1 Automatic
The adjustment is usually performed with "Hamilton Duracal" buffers. However,
the adjustment can be performed with other buffers. The data of these buffers
have to be entered in the menu edit buffer data. The edited buffers have to be
selected in the menu sort buffer data.
1. Select menu adjustment > adjust pH > automatic.
"clean pH sensor/expose to buffer 1" is displayed.
2. To fill buffer pH 7 in the measuring cells using the sample changer SP-1m,
press first the key on the Alcolyzer and then the key on
the sample changer.
3. After the filling procedure is completed, wait until the voltage and the pH
value is stable (also check if the pH value is plausible) before pressing the
key to start the adjustment.
"Standard 7.00" (or the name of your buffer) as well as a number (in row"adjust") is displayed.
4. Press the key.
The adjustment with the first buffer is finished.
"clean pH sensor/expose to buffer 2" is displayed.
5. Fill buffer pH 4 in the measuring cells and wait until the voltage and the pH
value is stable (also check if the pH value is plausible).
6. Then press the key to start the adjustment.
Information:
Instead of using the sample changer, one of the following filling procedurescan be used:
Disconnect the silicone hose that is plugged to the front adapter of the pH
measuring cell. Fill a 20 mL syringe with the buffer. Connect the syringe to

8. Fill buffer pH 4 in the measuring cells and wait until the voltage and the pH
value is stable (also check if the pH value is plausible).

If you use a different buffer to "Hamilton Duracal" for the adjustment, the buffer
data (pH value depending on the temperature) can be edited in this menu.
In the first two rows of the list the buffers "Hamilton Duracal" are predefined. Thedata of these buffers are already programmed and cannot be edited.
The rows 3 10 are individually editable. For any buffer the buffer data can be
entered and stored using a certain name for the new edited buffer.
Entering buffer data
1. Select a row between 3 and 10 using the keys and .
"new buffer" appears on the display.
2. Press to enter the designation (e.g. "buffer pH 4") of the new bufferusing the , , keys or a keyboard.
3. Press the key.
Now the list can be entered (temperature and corresponding pH value).
4. Use the key to enter the data. Use the key to move the cursor.Use the key to go to the next row. Press to save all entered data.
5. Answer the question "save new pH buffer?" with the key.
Deleting buffer data
1. To delete a newly edited buffer, press the key.
2. Answer the question "really clear buffer data?" with and press the
key.
Caution:At least two pairs of temperature and corresponding pH value that enclose the
temperature, at which the pH is later measured, have to be entered.
