Justice MD. TOFAZZAL ISLAM is a former Chief Justice of Bangladesh. While a Judge of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, Justice Islam also held the Office of Chairman of the Enrolment Committee of the Bangladesh Bar Council from 2004 to 2008 responsible for selecting the lawyers entitled to practice in the District Courts and then in the Supreme Court. He then held the Office of the Chairman of the Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission from 2008 to 2009 responsible for selecting the Assistant Judges and the Judicial Magistrates for the District Courts. Justice Islam was the principal author of several landmark judgements laying the foundations for the development of Constitutional Laws and setting significant precedents, which includes the judgments on repeal of the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution of Bangladesh, enlarging the powers of the Supreme Court under the Companies Act 1994 in protecting the interests of minority shareholders, and reversing the decision of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court in allowing the construction of markets in violation of the provisions of environmental laws. Justice Islam did his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and Master of Arts in History from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh and also completed L.L.B there. He then went to the UK for further education and was called to the Bar of England and Wales from the Hon’ble Society of Lincoln’s Inn in 1967. Justice MD. AWLAD ALI is a former Justice of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. He was appointed as a Judge to the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh on 23 February 1997. He retired from the High Court Division on 24 January 2008. Presently, he serves as Chairman of Arbitral Tribunal and member of several Tribunals. Mr. Md. Awlad Ali was enrolled as a pleader under the High Court of Judicature of the then East Pakistan (presently Bangladesh) in 1965. He became a member of Dhaka District Bar Association in January 1966. He was enrolled as an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and became member of the Supreme Court Bar Association in March 1973. He was enrolled as a Senior Advocate of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh in December 1994 (certificate of granted in January 1995). Mr. Md. Awlad Ali started dealing with the arbitration cases since 1969. During his professional career, Mr. Md. Awlad Ali conducted good number of commercial arbitration cases as a lawyer of the contesting parties including an arbitration case of a London-based shipping company Alam Maritime. He was a sole Arbitrator in the arbitration cases of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh. After retirement from the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh in January 2008, Justice Md. Awlad Ali again entered into the arbitration jurisdiction both in international and domestic commercial arbitration and disposed of many cases being the Chairman of the Arbitral Tribunal. He also served as a member of the Tribunal in some other cases. Justice ANDROMACHE KARAKATSANIS was appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada in October 2011. She had been appointed a judge of the Court of Appeal for Ontario in March 2010 and a judge of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in December 2002. Justice Karakatsanis is a graduate of the University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall Law School. Following her call to the Bar in 1982, Andromache Karakatsanis served as a law clerk to the Ontario Court of Appeal. In private practice, she practised criminal, civil and family litigation in Toronto for several years. She then served in the Ontario Public Service for 15 years in a number of senior positions. During her career in public service, Andromache Karakatsanis served as Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the Liquor Licence Board of Ontario (1988-95); as Assistant Deputy Attorney General and Secretary for Native Affairs (1995-97); and as Deputy Attorney General (1997-2000). Andromache Karakatsanis served as Ontario's Secretary of the Cabinet and Clerk of the Executive Council from July 2000 to November 2002. As the province's senior public servant, she provided leadership to the Ontario Public Service and to the deputy ministers. While in the public service, Justice Karakatsanis was actively involved in issues related to education and reform in the field of administrative justice. She was a recipient of the Society of Ontario Adjudicators and Regulators (SOAR) Medal in 1996 for outstanding service to Ontario's administrative justice system. Justice Karakatsanis volunteered extensively with the YMCA of Greater Toronto from 1990 to 2002 and held a number of senior positions, including that of Chair of the Board of Directors. She also served as a member of the Board of the Public Policy Forum and of Canadian Policy and Research Networks (CPRN).

Mr. HUGH ADSETT is the Legal Adviser and Director General of the Legal Affairs Bureau of Global Affairs Canada (September 2016 - present). He was previously the Deputy Legal Adviser of the Legal Affairs Bureau (2013-16). Mr. Adsett graduated from Queen's University with an LL.B in 1993. Following his call to the Bar he worked as a human rights field officer in Cyangugu, Rwanda, with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in 1995. Upon his return to Canada, he joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, where he had assignments in Ottawa in the Peacebuilding Division (1996-97), Human Rights and Humanitarian Law Division (1998 and 2000-02) , and the Environmental Law Division (2002-04). From 1998-2000, he was posted to the Embassy of Canada to Ethiopia as Second Secretary, with accreditation to Sudan, Eritrea and Djibouti. Mr. Adsett served as Director of the Criminal, Security and Diplomatic Law Division (2008-11) and Director of the United Nations, Human Rights and Economic Law Division (2011-13). In 2011, he was elected to the International Criminal Court Committee on Budget and Finance for the 2012-14 term, and re-elected in 2013 for the 2014-17 term. He was a lecturer in Advanced International Law at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law, each Fall from 2010 to 2013, and a lecturer in International Human Rights Law at Queen's University, Faculty of Law, every June from 2009 until now. Mr. Al-Ansari represented the State of Kuwait in various United Nations Organizations and participated in numerous legal, international and regional conferences. Moreover, he also represented Kuwait in negotiations of legal, judicial, bilateral and collective agreements, including negotiations of bilateral agreements on legal and judicial cooperation, negotiations of the GCC agreements. He was the Former President Rotary Club of Manila from 1990-1991, which has been the first and largest in Asia. Additionally, from 1990-1991, he co-founded and became President of the National Union of Students of the Philippines. He finished his Associate in Arts with Highest Honors at the Far Eastern University in 1956, and his law degree as Cum Laude at the same university 4 years after. Moreover, he received Honorary Doctoral Degrees in several universities in the Philippines. Furthermore, he is an Honorary Member of the Consular Corps of the Philippines, Phi Kappa Phi International Honor Society (UP Chapter), and San Beda Law A!umni Association. CJ Panganiban (Ret.) is a recipient of numerous awards such as: The Renaissance Jurist of the 21st Century, given by the Supreme Court during his retirement in 2006; Sole awardee of the Most Outstanding Law Alumnus for 1988, awarded by the Far Eastern University Law Alumni-Association; Most Outstanding Practicing Lawyer of the Consumers' Union of the Philippines in 1994; and the Golden Helm Award, bestowed by the Senate of West Bertin and the International Association of Helmsmen, Berlin in 1984. In addition, he wrote several books about the judiciary, the latest one entitled 'With Due Respect' published in 2012. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Philippine Chapter of ASEAN Law Association, the Chairman Emeritus of the Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc., as well as Consultant of the Judicial and Bar Council. Chief Justice (Ret.) RENATO S. PUNO was the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines from 2006 to 2010. He was Former Solicitor at the Office of the Solicitor General from 1971-1974. In 1986, he was appointed Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals, and Associate Justice of the Supreme Court seven years after. He finished his Bachelor of Science in Jurisprudence and his Bachelor of Laws at the University of the Philippines in 1962. He obtained his Master of Comparative Laws at the Southern Methodist University in Texas in 1967 and his Master of Laws at the University of California in 1968. Likewise, he finished all academic requirements of the degree of Doctor of Juridical Science at the University of Illinois in 1969. Furthermore, he received Honorary Doctoral Degrees in numerous universities in the Philippines. Moreover, CJ Puna (Ret.) is a recipient of many distinctions such as The American Jurisprudence Prize for excellence in U.S. Constitutional Structure given by the Lawyers Cooperative Publishing Co. of New York; Honorary citizenship granted by the State of Texas, U.S.A. in 1966; One of the Distinguished Citizens of the Philippines in 1980; Grand Lodge Gold Medal in 1988, the highest awarded of the Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of the Republic of the Philippines; and Human Cultural Asset International Awardee for 2008 given in Seoul, Korea by the World Peace Prize Awarding Council.

Justice (Ret.) JOSE C. VITUG was the Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines for 10 years from 1993-2004, and designated concurrently during incumbency as Acting Chief Justice on 17-23 May and 25-27 May 2004. He previously chaired the Court Committee on Legal Education and Bar Matters, and the 2003 and 1997 Bar examinations in the Philippines. In 2007, he became the Consultant at the Office of the Solicitor General. He obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree as Cum Laude in 1956, Master of Laws in 1962, and his Master of National Security Administration in 1975. As an academician, he was former Dean at Arellano Law Foundation, former Professor and Professorial Chair at Chung Chi College in Hong Kong, and former Professor at numerous universities in the Philippines. He was likewise a Fellow of the Commonwealth Judicial Education Institute of Canada in 2000. In the private sector, he counseled ABS-CBN Corporation, Marinduque Mining and Industrial Corporation, Sierra Madre Development Corporation, and other corporations in the Philippines. Moreover, he had been a Philippine Delegate to numerous international fora such as the First International Forum for Training of the Judiciary in Jerusalem in 2002, the Millennium Law Conference in Singapore in 2000, the Global Conference on Anti-Corruption and Safeguarding Integrity in Washington D.C., U.S.A. in 1999, among other conferences. Justice Vitug was conferred multiple awards and commendations such as Outstanding Senior Professor of Law and installed in Hall of Fame by the Legal Education Board, the Commission on Higher Education, the Philippine Association of Law Schools and the Ateneo Law Schoolin 2012; A "Special Tribute” by the Court of Tax Appeals wherein a court library is named after him; Outstanding Filipino (TOFIL) Award from the Philippine Jaycees Senators in 2001; and the First GAWAD Arellano Achievement Award in 2001. Born in 1937 in Perak, Federated Malay States (now Malaysia), he graduated from the University of Malaya in Singapore with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree in 1961. He practiced as a lawyer in the Federation of Malaya and Singapore for 24 years before joining public service in Singapore, first as a Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court of Singapore in July 1986, then as a Judge of the Supreme Court from July 1988 to April 1992, and then as Attorney-General of Singapore from May 1992 to April 2006. He was a Member of the Military Court of Appeal from 1971 to 1986, the Judge Advocate-General of the Singapore Armed Forces from June 1992 to December 2001 and one of the Government’s nominees to the Panels of Arbitrators and Conciliators of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes from 1981 to 1992. He was appointed the Chief Justice of Singapore on 11 April 2006 and retired as Chief Justice and Judge of the Supreme Court on his 75th birthday on 5 November 2012. As Attorney General, he was conferred the Distinguished Service Award (Darjah Utama Bakti Cemerlang “D.U.B.C.”) on 9 August 1999, and as Chief Justice, he was conferred the Order of Temasek (Darjah Utama Temasek “D.U.T.”) (Second Class) by the Government of Singapore on 9 August 2008 for his outstanding contributions to Singapore. He was also elected as an Honorary Bencher of Lincoln’s Inn in July 2008. On 21 November 2009, he was conferred the International Jurists Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the administration of justice. Prof. SHARYA SCHARENGUIVEL is Professor of Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo and has been in the University System for almost forty years.
