alang plastikan!
DESCRIPTION
this was my report in my Ecology subject.. :)TRANSCRIPT
Try to guess what
the following images are…..
What is this?
1 million of plastic cups trashed every six hours in commercial flights.
What is this?
60,000 plastic bags,discarded every 5 seconds.
What is this?
2 million plastic bottles,dumped every 5 minutes.
What else?????
Wait.... There’s more…..
PLASTIC??!!
What is plastic?
Plastic is any synthetic or semi-synthetic organic polymer.
Types of Plastic Products: PLASTIC BAGS PLASTIC COATINGS PLASTIC FURNITURE PLASTIC SHEETS PLASTIC FITTINGS PLASTIC TANKS PLASTIC TOYS PLASTIC BUCKETS PLASTIC SANITARYWARE PLASTIC STATIONERY
Worldwide plastic consumption is flagrant….
How long does plastic take to decompose????
F.Y.I. Plastics do not decompose!!!!
NEVER!
It only breaks down into molecules.
Molecules that are harmful to the environment.
Plastics are believed not to
decompose but only photo degrade.
Decomposition vs. Photo Degradation
Decomposition is “the chemical breakdown of organic matter into its
constituents by the action of bacteria,”
while photo degradation is, “the
process by which chemical bonds are
broken down by photons in the sun’s
light spectrum.”
How long does plastic photo degrade????
A very long long long time…….
In a way that it is being estimated up to
hundreds…..thousands of… years.. depends upon its composition..
Types of Plastic:Plastic #1: Polyethylene terephtalate, also known as PETE or PET. Usually clear in color, the vast majority of disposable soda and water bottles are made of this plastic. Range from 5 to 10 years.
Plastic #2: High-density polyethylene, or HDPE. Most milk jugs, detergent bottles, juice bottles, butter tubs, and toiletries bottles are made of HDPE. It takes 100 years depending on the thickness of the plastic used.
Types of Plastic:
Plastic #3: Polyvinyl chloride, or PVC. It is used to make food wrap, bottles for cooking oil, and the highly common plumbing pipes.
Types of Plastic:
Plastic #4: Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) is used to make grocery bags, some food wraps, squeezable bottles, and bread bags. 500 years with a conservative average time of 1000 years.
Types of Plastic:
Plastic #5: This is polypropylene. Common items produced with it include yogurt cups, medicine bottles, ketchup, syrup bottles, straws and similar wide-necked containers, as well as water bottles with a cloudy finish.
Types of Plastic:
Plastic #6: Polystyrene, or Styrofoam, from which disposable containers and packaging are made. Also found in disposable plates and cups. This type of plastic will break down in under 50 years.
Types of Plastic:
Plastic #7: Other Types - This includes anything not in codes one through six. Most plastics in this section do not breakdown and are considered permanently, chemically bonded.
Types of Plastic:
EFFECTS OF PLASTIC TO ENVIRONMENT
Litter the landscape
Pollutes beaches & oceans.
EFFECTS OF PLASTIC TO ENVIRONMENT
Kill animals.
EFFECTS OF PLASTIC TO ENVIRONMENT
Plastics are non-biodegradable.
EFFECTS OF PLASTIC TO ENVIRONMENT
These are just some of the effects....
What about to human.????
How does plastics effect human??
Chemicals used in the production are highly toxic
& pose serious treat to living beings of all
species.. It can cause cancer, skin & respiratory
problems……
And it may causes...caused…will cause…..
FLOODS!!!
Why it happen????
Because what we actually do is…
Throw plastics everywhere…
And they will end up…
Either on the GROUND.. or in WATER..
Why do we do that???
The thing is…
“L O G I C” ST UP ID I TY
What can we do??
Reduce.. Reuse.. Recycle..
REDUCEThe first and most effective component of the waste hierarchy is reducing the waste created.
REUSETo use an item again after it has been used.
Use reusable cloth bags!
If we use a cloth bag, we can save:
6 bags a week
If we use a cloth bag, we can save:
24 bags a month
If we use a cloth bag, we can save:
288 bags a year
If we use a cloth bag, we can save:
22,176 bags in a lifetime
Cloth bags will prevent plastic spreading..
But still there are lot of garbage out there..
Then RECYCLE those can be recycled..
RECYCLEWhen waste is eventually discarded, segregating items for recycling from other waste is important. Recyclables include glass, newspaper, aluminum, cardboard and a surprising array of other materials.

Wait..
There’s another “R”…
RESPECT!
“Respect to our environment..& Self-discipline.”
