1 Alamo Detachment NOVEMBER 2011 Vol. 19 Issue 11 HONOR – COURAGE – COMMITMENT COMMANDANT’S MESSAGE Marines & Associates, Happy belated Birthday! November 2011 is coming to an end and the Christmas season is upon us. It's time to check out the Christmas decorations. Our Marine Corps Birthday celebration was a great success. All who attended had a good time dining and dancing. Our Guest of Honor Major General David Garza, the Inspector General of the Marine Corps is a motivating speaker. He commented that it was great to see a combination of the past, present, and future of the Marine Corps with the Alamo Detachment, the BAMC Wounded Marine Detachment, and the San Antonio Young Marines combining to provide an excellent Birthday ceremony. We thank MGen Garza for coming all the way from Washington, D.C. to join us in our celebration. I want to thank the Detachment Marines, the Marines from the BAMC Marine Detachment, and especially the San Antonio Young Marines for their participation in a fine ceremony. They Young Marines looked outstanding in their uniforms. I would be remiss if I did not thank the Ladies Auxiliary for their participation. They ensured that all who attended welcomed and seated gracefully, not an easy task. Thank you Ladies. As you all know, the Alamo Detachment participated in the San Antonio Veterans Day Parade on the 12 of November. I had the honor of carrying the Detachment colors. Jose Martinez and John Rodriguez carried the Detachment banner. Several Detachment Marines & Associates road our decorated "floats" (trucks). The San Antonio Young Marine Unit marched behind the Detachment. As usual, the Young Marines looked good. We were few, but we were received by the spectators. There were many Marines in the crowd, you could tell by all the oorraaah! We had a very good time. I hope we can do it again next year with more participation. Just a quick note, the Alamo Detachment Christmas Party/Awards Night is December 17 at the American Legion Post 2. More details to come. As we celebrate the birthday of the Corps and our Veterans, let us not forget we have Marines, Corpsmen, and other Service People in harm's way. Please keep them and their families your prayers On a sad note, we lost one of our own. Belinda Rischner of the Ladies Auxiliary passed away November 13 after a long bout with cancer. She was a very active member of the Marine Corps League. Please keep her and her family in your prayers. Semper Fidelis, Felix Conde Jr

HAPPY 236TH BIRTHDAY We made it to another year and we’ll have to hang in for the next one. We had a great time at the ball.

The Young Marines did an outstanding job in the Cake cutting Ceremony. Just like old salty Marines.

Our guest speaker was Maj. Gen. David Garza. ALAMO DETACHMENT ON PARADE

We had a good showing at the Veterans Parade and like Commandant Conde said in his comments “Hope we can do this every year.” Here are a few pictures:

Our Young Marines on Parade.

Our condolences and prayers to the families of Belinda Rischner and for the mother of Marine Carlos Uresti .May they rest in peace.
