The artist Jean Frélaut 1879-1954 was French painter and etcher of Bretonscenes and also, occasionally, of traditional religious subjects. Born atGrenoble of Breton parents, he began engraving in 1903-4. He won aconsiderable reputation with his illustrated books, especially for the Fablesde La Fontaine (1941) made with the advice and assistance of Segonzac.
