INTRODUCTION This course is for people who want to learn how to plan and manage Logistics operations. You will learn about the handling and storage of freight and freight maintenance schedules. You will also learn about the different aspects of Logistics functions, including purchasing, operations, warehousing, transportation and Supply Chain Management, depending on the elected course of study. Students will also learn how to manage physical and human resources, plan and implement security measures, develop business plans, and negotiate effective contracts. COURSE STRUCTUTE AND OBJECTIVES The programme comprises two levels, Advanced Diploma (ten modules) and Diploma (six modules). Each module takes about two months on average to complete. The diploma and advanced diploma courses are designed to equip students with effective technical and managerial skills, necessary to becoming efficient logisticians at the supervisory and managerial levels. In addition, the programmes aim to impact the essential knowledge and pre-requisites needed for the pursuit of further education in business or logistics management. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Successful completion of matriculation, high school or equivalent, in addition to at least two years of relevant work experience. IELTS 5.5 or equivalent is recommended to be able to complete the course. ASSESSMENT AND AWARDS Each of the modules is assessed using examinations, assignments and continuous assessment. Upon successful completion of six modules, students may be awarded the Diploma in Logistics Management. The completion of an additional three modules and a business research project enables a student to be considered for the award of Advanced Diploma in Operations & Logistics Management.

The Australian Logistics Academy was formed in the 1990′s for the

purpose of providing training and education to advance Logistics and Supply Chain Management practices in Australia and the region. It continues to grow as a professional organization for Logisticians and plays a major role for Members and the business community by providing access to quality management information, resources, and professional education.

Module Introduction Compulsory modules (No Exam)

Elective modules

TCM01 – Transportation Carrier Management

Lecturers on services choices and performance characteristics, single service choices, coordinated services, international transportation, documentation, rate profiles and line-haul rates.

BRP01 – Business Research Project

Students are required to prepare a Business Research Project related to problems and situation their work place. The length of the project paper is about 5000 words.

SDM01 – Strategic Analysis and Decision Making

Analysing corporate strategy concepts and decision-making processes. Understanding of the environment in which organisations operate, identify strategic implications and methods leading to decision-making.

IT01 – International Transportation

Includes types of freight, transport management of vessel, port facilities, shipboard handling equipment and operations, insurance, damages claims, cargo compatibility, FTZ concept and export, processing zones plus efficiency gauges.

COD01 – Channels of Distribution

Introduces retailing methods of operations, consumer behaviour, merchandise management, wholesaling operations, physical distribution systems, organisation and planning.

PIM01 – Purchasing and Inventory Management

This module covers purchasing organisation, procedures, documentation, quality and quantity sourcing, negotiation, manufacturing undertakings, retail distribution and public sector purchasing. It also covers inventory management codification and compatibility with computer systems, classification of inventories, average stock theory, EOQ, lead time, buffer/safety stock and ordering, MRP concepts, KANBAN system, automation concepts, capacity measures, forecasting, time series analysis and seasonal adjustments.

WM01 – Warehouse Management

Introduces overview of store function, effective layout, inventory management, purchasing, and materials audit methods, ABC analysis, storage control and house keeping methods.

OM01 – Operation Management

Covering systems concepts and organisation, location analysis, optimisation models and methods in production planning, procurement, inventory management, quality control work methods and measurement.

LT01 – Logistics Technology

Includes use of logistics information technology systems, such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) and advanced planning software, to support logistics decisions, application of e-commerce in logistics/supply chain management, use of logistics simulation software, use of currently available business application software such as databases, spreadsheets, project management, and presentations, and other technological areas such as WMS/SCM systems implementation, bar coding and scanning.

SCM01 – Supply Chain Management

This module provides an overview of supply chain management and its practical and theoretical function from both a micro and macro perspective in today’s

business environment.
