Slight: pain means awareness of pain without distress.

Moderate: pain distracts attention from a routine occupation such as reading or housework.

Severe: pain fills the field of consciousness to the exclusion of other events; visceral reflex accompaniments often occur.

Agonising: pain motor effects, as evidenced by restlessness, may occur, or the syndrome of "shock“ ensue.

Unidimensional scales are poor indicators of analgesic requirement.

Use of a pain scale has much less value when titrating medication for pain.

the caregiver will give medication until a certain “number” on a pain scale is attained or until they believe enough has been given, rather than titrating to when the patient says they are comfortable.

Since self-reporting is the gold standard, the patient should have control as to when (and how much) they require medication.

It will have to be in the research setting that we develop and use multidimensional tools to better understand how to control pain in the ED.

MCP 10mg als Kurzinfusion

Da ohne Besserung -> Triptan verordnet

(Sumatriptan nasal)
