Verne Rupright, Mayor - City of Wasilla

We are located 45 miles north of Anchorage, on the Parks Highway on the way to Fairbanks.Wasilla’s growth is due to several factors. First, the city charges a modest three cents per dollar on purchases, to a cap of fi ve hundred dollars on purchases. One cent is set aside for new twenty-four thousand square foot library complex; no debt incurred! Also, the City charges absolutely NO City Property Tax to residents or businesses. Shopping abounds, as well as entertainment and eateries, all within easy striking distance and located right within the city boundaries. Many shopping areas are located in Wasilla, such as Wal-Mart Super Store, Fred Meyers, Sears, Safeway, Lowe’s, Target, Sports Authority, Home Depot, Spenard Builders, Sportsman’s Warehouse and other national outfi ts. Wasilla also has many national and local auto repair parts outlets and theaters, with more businesses coming on a consistent basis. The area has top-notch medical facilities and great schools, as well as public transportation services.Wasilla is surrounded by three premier Alaskan Mountain Ranges, nestled between two beautiful lakes, with parks and a preserved Alaskan look. Wasilla boasts a great museum, golfi ng, and a cornucopia of outdoor activities year-round. Wasilla also features a 102,000 square foot sports arena. The City is expanding its infrastructure to meets current and future needs, while carrying a balanced budget with surplus for the “rainy days”, if needed. Housing is available, and more is coming online daily, with police and fi re protection to ensure the safety of every resident. The City of Wasilla works hard to provide city low cost services while creating incentives for future families and businesses. It’s no secret that folks moving to Wasilla get a larger “bang for the buck” in their home investment. If you would like more information about Wasilla, please visit our website at www.cityofwasilla.com or, call at 907-373-9050 and ask for the Deputy Administrator’s offi ce. Thank you. With all the Best, Mayor Verne E. Rupright

Editorial

If only 5% came back from one incubation, this would be an additional 22,500 Coho/silvers returning.

Think about what this means to you fi shing here in the Mat Su.At this time, initial funds for this promising restoration project have been provided by the Knik Tribal Council, the Mat-Su Resource Conservation

& Development Council and the Houston Chamber of Commerce.

We are extremely pleased with this important fi rst step in the effort to increase abundance of native Coho stocks in the Little Susitna River. This effort is widely supported by subsistence, sport, personal use and commercial fi shermen as the way forward to increase future salmon stocks in the Mat-Su Valley

drainage.”

“Chinook/Coho Salmon Population Restoration Projects” Those of us who live here in the Mat Su know its a spectacular place, just beyond

the shopping centers, and neighborhoods lie the forest and streams we love to explore and fi sh. We seek the rural lifestyle, yet we need to be close to jobs.

For many, salmon are an integral part of their heritage and culture, and fi shing is a regular part of life and an important means of caring for our families.

Using a proven project called Moist Air Incubations; we can increase native salmon egg survival from natures 30% to about 90%.

When I decided to run for governor as an independent in August 2013, I recognized that my ideals and vision for this state could not be pigeon-

holed into one party or another. I am an Alaskan fi rst, and that is how I’ve oriented this campaign, my life, and my career.

Byron Mallott and I are rising above partisan politics to form the independent team of Walker-Mallott for governor and lieutenant governor. We realize that we do not hold an identical set of beliefs. But what is critical is that

at this point in Alaska’s history, and looking forward to our future, we must have an administration that is not beholden to any special interest

other than Alaska’s interests. Our administration will be a guide so that all Alaskans will see the progress that occurs when we focus on what unites

rather than what divides us.

This campaign is about bringing us together around shared values and building the kind of Alaska that all Alaskans will be proud to call home. For true

Alaskans, our heritage is much more than simply Republican or Democrat or independent – our history is one of uniting to overcome even the greatest of odds, and our greatest achievements come when we put

Alaska fi rst.

DON YOUNG

CONGRESSMAN

FOR ALL ALASKA

I was re-elected to the 111th Congress in 2008 to serve my 19th term as Alaska’s only Representative to the United States House of Representatives. My tenure in offi ce has been driven by my deep love for Alaska and the Nation, and my hope to provide all citizens the opportunity for a better life, not just today, but well into the future. I have an impassioned and sincere desire to continue serving Alaska in the United States Congress.

My home is a stone’s throw from Alaska’s Yukon River in Fort Yukon, Alaska, a remote village of approximately 700 people located 7 miles above the Arctic Circle in Alaska’s central interior region. It was in Fort Yukon that I met and married a young bookkeeper named Lu. Lu was always at my side and supported me throughout my public service career. Lu and I were married for 46 years, and were blessed with and raised two daughters, Joni and Dawn, and 14 grandchildren. Lu passed away on August 2, 2009 at the age of 67. I thank God for the many years we had together and I miss her every day.

I proudly serve as the “Congressman for All Alaska” and love my role as the only Alaskan Representative in Congress. Renewed by the challenges and goals of the 111th Congress and my committee positions, I will continue to champion legislation and funding for programs benefi ting Alaska and the nation. My vision remains the same – to provide citizens with the opportunity for a better life not just for today, but also for tomorrow and the future. Paid for by the committee to re-elect Don Young.

For the last 4 years, Cathy has worked as a senior staff member for the House and Senate Finance committees in the Alaska Legislature. It was during her last position with Rep. Mark Neuman (R-Big Lake) that she realized she needed to once again step out of her comfort zone into a new role as a candidate. Her time as a legislative staffer provided her the insight into the agencies, departments and processes of state government.

CRIME & PUBLIC SAFETY

Private gun ownership is a founding principle of our federal and state constitutions. I fully support existing Alaska gun ownership laws including the “Castle” and “Stand your ground” doctrines.

Before writing new laws, lengthening sentences and adopting harsher penalties, we must consistently enforce the ones we have.

FISH, GAME & PUBLIC LANDS

I support the mission and work of the Citizen’s Advisory Commission on Federal Areas (CACFA) and will look for ways to increase their role in helping Alaska manage its lands.

We must protect access to Alaska’s fi sheries resources for ALL stakeholder groups. I will support Chinook abundance research efforts so Alaskans will continue to have dependable access to this resource.

The recent reduction in bag limits for Alaska recreational fi shermen illustrate the need for greater state involvement in halibut management. I will work with stakeholder groups and our congressional delegation to advance state control of halibut management.

Budget reductions are essential. However, we can’t “cut ourselves into prosperity.” As a staff member for the Finance Committees, I have helped reduce state spending. As your legislator, I will continue to do the same.

As your legislator, I will focus on fi nishing what we started, taking care of what we have and prioritizing what we need rather than what we want.

Increasing revenue is a critical component to stabilizing our state fi nances. As your legislator I will pursue regulatory changes that encourage new industries to invest in Alaska and encourage local hire for Alaskans. Paid for by the committee to elect Cathy Tilton.

Work to improve our Parks and Recreational opportunities, work to improve transportation corridors (City / Borough / State) and improve City services. These are all important issues that contribute to the quality of life for Wasilla residents. Background:Graduate of Wasilla High SchoolGraduated Trinidad State College - Trinidad, COFBI Academy graduate12 years Offi ce Manager - Petro Star, Inc., Division of Arctic Slope Regional Corporation22 years Valdez Police Offi cer – 8 years as Chief ofPoliceretired3 years Deputy Administrator – City of WasillacurrentPolitical Experience:11 years Valdez City Council – 10 years Mayor13 years Alaska Gasline Port Authority3 years Alaska Alcohol Beverage Control Board3 years Alaska Municipal League Board – President 20103 years Alaska State Homeland SecurityAffi liations:Pioneers of Alaska – Past PresidentBenevolent and Protective Order of ElksEagles Aerie 1971Longtime NRA MemberAdvocate for Victims of ViolenceCity of Wasilla Projects Completed:New Library land site acquisition Transfer of Lake Lucille Park from Borough to City of WasillaReactivation of SART (Sexual Assault Response Team)

My name is Bert Cottle and I am running for Wasilla Mayor. I was born and raised in Wasilla. construction to pay for his education. He earned a business and law degree and has extensive experience in business, fi shing, construction, tourism and owns a law fi rm that focuses on municipal and oil and gas law. Married 36 years, Bill and Donna are blessed with two grandchildren and four children.

Bill has over 30 years of experience in local government as a commissioner, councilmember, mayor and city attorney and believes that the foundation for a strong, prospering Alaska begins at the local level. As project manager and general counsel for the Alaska Gasline Port Authority, Bill has traveled the globe to meet and negotiate at the highest level on energy project development. A respected voice in Alaska’s oil and gas issues, Bill believes Alaska is doing little to solve the energy crisis in time to save our communities that are at risk. Bill would advance short term solutions now to fi ll the gap while we develop the world scale gasline project that matches the global opportunity while delivering low-cost energy to Alaskans statewide.

Paid for by the committee to elect Bill Walker

Bill was born in Fairbanks, raised in Delta Junction and Valdez and resides in Anchorage with his wife, Donna. Bill’s parents were Alaskan pioneers. His father was an Alaskan Scout with Castner’s Cutthroats in the Aleutians in WWII and his mother worked on the Al-Can Highway project. Bill worked as a carpenter, teamster and laborer on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline

Bill Walker Candidate Alaska Governor

Most of the state’s industrial outputs are crude petroleum, natural gas, coal, gold, precious metals, zinc and other mining, seafood processing, timber and wood products. There is also a growing service and tourism sector. What about the Valley? With a population of over 90,000 people, the valley will continue to be the fastest growing area in the state. Relatively in-expensive land, close proximity to Anchorage, a beautiful setting, lot’s of outdoor activities, makes the Valley the place to be for the foreseeable future. As a result, the Valley’s employment future is looking up. With the passage of the natural gas bill, headway is now being made on the LNG large volume gas line, the Knik Arm crossing is now moving to the fi nancing stage. With this the valley is poised to have much economic activity occurring over the next decade. The result will be many employment opportunities. This will be the place for jobs, growing business and a great quality of life. For anyone willing to work, fi nding employment should not be that diffi cult given all that will be occurring. For those willing to invest in business, the same. As long as we in government ensure a supportive business climate, we will do well. Reasonable taxation and regulatory policies will be the key to the Valley’s future.” Paid for by the committee to elect Mike Dunleavy.

Statewide employment in Alaska is primarily in government

and industries such as natural resource extraction,

shipping, and transportation. Military bases are a

signifi cant component of the economy in both Fairbanks

and Anchorage.

As examples: a balanced budget, growth,

infrastructure, quality of life amenities, forwarded funded a library without debt, additional public

safety and a surplus in the cities kitty for the rainy days. I chopped the “fat” from the city budget 19% and had no lay-offs or diminished services in doing it. I am a registered Republican and believe in those basic principles and I am Financially Responsible. I

have tirelessly campaigned for our share of state infrastructure dollars in Juneau on behalf of not only

the city, but also the district and the Mat-Su. As a Vietnam Veteran enlisted/ US Army Reserve Offi cer and Senior Citizen I have supported the causes of

these groups. I am a member of the NRA and believe in the inherent rights of the citizen. I have never been afraid to take on the major issues with state or federal

agencies or any other,

Paid for by the committee to elect Verne Rupright

I am Verne Rupright, Mayor of the City of Wasilla, and I am running for State House District 7 which is Wasilla and the Greater Area encompassing the Lakes East. I made Promises to the people of Wasilla when elected in 2008 and have kept those Promises.

Riding through the Valley’s hayfi elds on horses. Learning to read and write from a cadre of truly caring and capable teachers. Exploring Jim Creek on a four-wheeler. Marching through the woods hunting rabbits with my brothers. Spending hours of the long Alaskan summer days hoeing fi elds of lettuce on one of the Valley’s vegetable farms. Trying to comprehend the mysterious with other curious children in the basement of St. Michael’s Parish. Wandering through the back yard with my family to search for the elusive perfect Christmas tree… These are the experiences that stuck to my ribs. They implanted the values that guide me through my days and root my decisions in an appreciation of life, a commitment to family and a love for this community that I am lucky enough to call home. I will represent Greater Palmer with honesty and integrity, and I will put partisanship aside and fi ght to keep our community the best place in Alaska.

Paid for by committee to elect PeteLafrance

My name is Pete LaFrance and I am running for State

House in Palmer. I was born and raised in Palmer,

and wouldn’t choose to settle down anywhere else.

I’ve had so many great experiences here...

Houston is a second class city and home to approximately 2000 people. The city benefits from the proximity of Wasilla (11 miles) and Anchorage (50 miles) for employment, shopping and entertainment while enjoying rural living surrounded by the Alaskan wilderness. As the Mat-Su Borough is the fastest growing area in Alaska, Houston is poised to welcome new development. The City Council makes their decisions today with foresight of expansion opportunities in the near future. Land for building homes and businesses is abundant and affordable. Additionally, a variety of current and future markets for business make the city an attractive place to consider for successful investment. I invite you to visit the City of Houston to experience our local hotspots and stop in or contact City Hall with questions about opportunities for your success in Houston! Mayor Virgie Thompson

I’ve been a licensed realtor in Alaska for nearly 20 years ,the majority of that time has been with the Century 21 system.Over the years I have met some very interesting people from all over .Taking buyers around to view homes has given me an opportunity to see different styles of homes, I’ve picked up decorating ideas, and have discovered color schemes that you would have never thought could go together. But fi nding buyers the right home that fi ts their needs is a rewarding experience as is getting the sellers homes sold so they can move on with their lives. So for all your real estate needs - please call us at Century 21 A to Z Realty -- 352-5111 or 352-5100 Have a glorious summer!. Bettie G. Salmon 232-8081

“Karrol, we’re just thrilled by this work. Thrilled!! The sunroom has added so much more light and we spend lots of time bird-watching and watching the clouds roll in. I even love looking out at rain storms. I love the way the rain comes off the roof! I’m serious!!”…….

Those are just a few of the words John of Palmer, Alaska used to describe their new “West Wing” as he and his wife call it. They are just one of the satisfi ed clients and now friends, of Rick and Karrol Johnson and Alaska Quality Builders, who have been building and remodeling here in the
