Cathy spent her early years in Anchorage, attending Tudor Elementary, Hanshew Middle School and graduating from Service High School. While not at school, Cathy spent many of her weekends and summers with her grandparents in Chugiak learning skills like hunting and fi shing and the importance of hard work and commitment.
After high school she moved to Big Lake where she began working for a local law fi rm and started a young family. After her fi rst son, Jordan, was born she went to work for the Mayor of Wasilla soon after the City had been designated a fi rst-class city.
Throughout her years in the MatSu Valley, her family expanded and she became a successful businesswoman focusing her efforts on residential real estate investments in the greater MatSu area.
As her family expanded and her three boys became older she immersed herself in a number of community activities.
For the last 4 years, Cathy has worked as a senior staff member for the House and Senate Finance committees in the Alaska Legislature. It was during her last position with Rep. Mark Neuman (R-Big Lake) that she realized she needed to once again step out of her comfort zone into a new role as a candidate. Her time as a legislative staffer provided her the insight into the agencies, departments and processes of state government. Paid for by Cathy Tilton for State House

“We applaud and support Knik Tribal Council, Mat-Su Resource Conservation and Development Council, and Houston
Chamber of Commerce efforts to work with ADFG and Cook Inlet Aquaculture Association to increase the abundance of coho and king salmon stocks in the Mat-Su Valley drainage. We wish you
every success in this endeavor.”
Mat Su—Alaska’s Hottest Region
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough (MSB) is Alaska’s hottest region—the fastest growing Borough in Alaska and the 35th fastest growing county in the United States. This growth is attributable to the region’s high quality of life, affordable land and homes. The Matanuska-Susitna Valley was not always Alaska’s fastest growing region. Back in the 1960’s the Matanuska-Susitna
valley was home to only about 5,000 people, increasing to over 17,000 by 1980. But since that time, the Mat Su has experienced phenomenal growth; doubling in just a decade to 39,683
residents in 1990, rising again in 2000 to just over 59,000 and again in 2010 to a population of nearly 89,000. Forecasts predict this growth will continue and it likely doubles again in the next twenty-fi ve years. A lot of people ask what’s driving this growth. The answer is simple; a high quality of life, affordable land and housing. According to 2011 statistics from Alaska Housing
Financing Corporation, the average new single family home in the MSB was $173,000 less than a new single family home in Anchorage. The Borough has a tremendous amount of potential
for commercial and industrial development too. Anchorage 2020 states that the number one problem facing Anchorage is the lack of land for residential, commercial and industrial
development. This lack of industrial land was confi rmed by the 2009 Anchorage Industrial Land Assessment produced by AEDC. The Port Mackenzie District has 8,942 acres, or 14 square miles of land available for commercial, industrial and offi ce space. Last week’s ground breaking of the
Port Mackenzie Rail Extension and Goose Bay prison will create 100’s of new jobs here in the Borough. With the Borough population potentially doubling and Anchorage’s pent up demand for
industrial and commercial land it is not hard to envision signifi cant job growth in the southern MSB over the next 25 years. Mat Su will continue to be one of the hottest places in Alaska to live and work for decades to come. Roger Purcell Editor: 50 yr. resident of Alaska, business

DON YOUNG
CONGRESSMAN
FOR ALL ALASKA
I was re-elected to the 111th Congress in 2008 to serve my 19th term as Alaska’s only Representative to the United States House of Representatives. My tenure in offi ce has been driven by my deep love for Alaska and the Nation, and my hope to provide all citizens the opportunity for a better life, not just today, but well into the future. I have an impassioned and sincere desire to continue serving Alaska in the United States Congress.
My home is a stone’s throw from Alaska’s Yukon River in Fort Yukon, Alaska, a remote village of approximately 700 people located 7 miles above the Arctic Circle in Alaska’s central interior region. It was in Fort Yukon that I met and married a young bookkeeper named Lu. Lu was always at my side and supported me throughout my public service career. Lu and I were married for 46 years, and were blessed with and raised two daughters, Joni and Dawn, and 14 grandchildren. Lu passed away on August 2, 2009 at the age of 67. I thank God for the many years we had together and I miss her every day.
I proudly serve as the “Congressman for All Alaska” and love my role as the only Alaskan Representative in Congress. Renewed by the challenges and goals of the 111th Congress and my committee positions, I will continue to champion legislation and funding for programs benefi ting Alaska and the nation. My vision remains the same – to provide citizens with the opportunity for a better life not just for today, but also for tomorrow and the future. Paid for by the committee to re-elect Don Young.
construction to pay for his education. He earned a business and law degree and has extensive experience in business, fi shing, construction, tourism and owns a law fi rm that focuses on municipal and oil and gas law. Married 36 years, Bill and Donna are blessed with two grandchildren and four children.
Bill has over 30 years of experience in local government as a commissioner, councilmember, mayor and city attorney and believes that the foundation for a strong, prospering Alaska begins at the local level. As project manager and general counsel for the Alaska Gasline Port Authority, Bill has traveled the globe to meet and negotiate at the highest level on energy project development. A respected voice in Alaska’s oil and gas issues, Bill believes Alaska is doing little to solve the energy crisis in time to save our communities that are at risk. Bill would advance short term solutions now to fi ll the gap while we develop the world scale gasline project that matches the global opportunity while delivering low-cost energy to Alaskans statewide.
Paid for by the committee to elect Bill Walker
Bill was born in Fairbanks, raised in Delta Junction and Valdez and resides in Anchorage with his wife, Donna. Bill’s parents were Alaskan pioneers. His father was an Alaskan Scout with Castner’s Cutthroats in the Aleutians in WWII and his mother worked on the Al-Can Highway project. Bill worked as a carpenter, teamster and laborer on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline

our State has not seen in decades. As Alaskan’s we all want our children and
grandchildren to enjoy this great State for decades to come. We need to look to the future now not later and embrace a diversifi ed economy and invest in the ones that make sense Makes sense not just for the economy but for the environment of this great State.
We should never have to choose between hunting or fi shing or mining and logging. Done responsibly, we can have both, not for us but for future generations. We can accomplish great things for our children and grandchildren with just a small investment today that will pay tenfold for future generations tomorrow.
We often overestimate what will happen in the next two years and underestimate what will happen in ten. While we still have the opportunity, let’s not pass up and look back regretting what should have been. Some of Alaska’s greatest opportunities since the pipeline days are right here in our back yard. Most of the state’s industrial outputs are crude petroleum, natural gas, coal, gold, precious metals, zinc and other mining, seafood processing, timber and wood products. There is also a growing service and tourism sector.
What about the Valley? With a population of over 90,000 people, the valley will continue to be the fastest growing area in the state. Relatively in-expensive land, close proximity to Anchorage, a beautiful setting, lot’s of outdoor activities, makes the Valley the place to be for the foreseeable future. As a result, the Valley’s employment future is looking up. With the passage of the natural gas bill, headway is now being made on the LNG large volume gas line, the Knik Arm crossing is now moving to the fi nancing stage. With this the valley is poised to have much economic activity occurring over the next decade. The result will be many employment opportunities. This will be the place for jobs, growing business and a great quality of life. For anyone willing to work, fi nding employment should not be that diffi cult given all that will be occurring. For those willing to invest in business, the same. As long as we in government ensure a supportive business climate, we will do well. Reasonable taxation and regulatory policies will be the key to the Valley’s future.” Paid for by the committee to elect Mike Dunleavy.
Statewide employment in Alaska is primarily in government
and industries such as natural resource extraction,
shipping, and transportation. Military bases are a
signifi cant component of the economy in both Fairbanks
and Anchorage.

Houston is a second class city and home to approximately 2000 people. The city benefits from the proximity of Wasilla (11 miles) and Anchorage (50 miles) for employment, shopping and entertainment while enjoying rural living surrounded by the Alaskan wilderness. As the Mat-Su Borough is the fastest growing area in Alaska, Houston is poised to welcome new development. The City Council makes their decisions today with foresight of expansion opportunities in the near future. Land for building homes and businesses is abundant and affordable. Additionally, a variety of current and future markets for business make the city an attractive place to consider for successful investment. I invite you to visit the City of Houston to experience our local hotspots and stop in or contact City Hall with questions about opportunities for your success in Houston! Mayor Virgie Thompson

“Karrol, we’re just thrilled by this work. Thrilled!! The sunroom has added so much more light and we spend lots of time bird-watching and watching the clouds roll in. I even love looking out at rain storms. I love the way the rain comes off the roof! I’m serious!!”…….
Those are just a few of the words John of Palmer, Alaska used to describe their new “West Wing” as he and his wife call it. They are just one of the satisfied clients and now friends, of Rick and Karrol Johnson and Alaska Quality Builders, who have been building and remodeling here in the
Mat-Su Valley since 1994.

I’ve been a licensed realtor in Alaska for nearly 20 years ,the majority of that time has been with the Century 21 system.Over the years I have met some very interesting people from all over .Taking buyers around to view homes has given me an opportunity to see different styles of homes, I’ve picked up decorating ideas, and have discovered color schemes that you would have never thought could go together. But finding buyers the right home that fits their needs is a rewarding experience as is getting the sellers homes sold so they can move on with their lives. So for all your real estate needs - please call us at Century 21 A to Z Realty -- 352-5111 or 352-5100 Have a glorious summer!. Bettie G. Salmon 232-8081
