Last weekend, 22 nd to 24 th November, 39 of us walking footballers and our wives and partners congregated at the Toorak Hotel (part of ) in Torquay for the club’s Annual Convention, which included our Gala Dinner and Awards ceremony. The drive down was miserable with rain lashing on the windscreen, but the welcome was warm and cheerful as we met up with our footballing pals and were introduced to their partners. The hotel complex has to be seen to be believed with the number of games and facilities available seemingly endless. It included a full-length indoor bowling green (except it was blue), their own ten-pin bowling alley, two swimming pools (three if you include the outdoor one, which I don’t at this time of year) and various other games available such as snooker, pool and table tennis. The rooms were spacious and tidy and the meals excellent! And I do mean excellent, with plenty of choice, especially at breakfast. The waiter and waitress service was also excellent with meals served in good time despite another large party of bowlers from Kingswood (which included two of my former bosses) on adjoining tables. The hotel did us proud on our Gala Dinner night, with our own room, decorated out in the colours of Keynsham Town Football Club (see below). The whole weekend ran like clockwork which was thanks to the work of organiser, Richard Iles. Mike Slucutt
