Florescent lamp contains small amount of mercury vapour. Mercury is a toxic heavy metal that can cause severe damage to the brain, nervous system, kidneys, lungs, and other vital organs. The management of Airwastewater Management Sdn Bhd has taken initiative using light emitting diode (LED) lamp instead of fluorescent lamp in AWWAM Environmental Laboratory Services (AELS) building. The LED lamp is free from mercury safer to use. This initiative can eliminate the risk of exposure to mercury vapour from the broken florescent lamp and reduces generation of mercury waste.
