water harvesting systems !or ground water replenishment where appropriate.

BbC All Airtel o!!ices have energy e!!icient light !ittings and D sets. 3e also ensureautomation that enables energy savings in our buildings. %uilding 'anagement*ystem B%'*C 6 Intelligent %uilding concept is being !ollowed in all the new Airtelbuilding and campuses that are coming up. "he %'* controls "he ;eating,entilation and Airconditioning B;A+C system,, electricity load management,water management, parking management, security and sa!ety systems to ensurean e!!iciently run building on optimal resources.

BcC -ew buildings also incorporate the concept o! and nergy 3heel whichoptimises energy e!!iciency in buildings. "he A+ system in our buildings adds acertain amount o! !resh air periodically? In the process o! adding this !resh air thecool air within the building vents out which may result into higher usage o! energyto bring the cooling@ temperature back. systems so that water born diseases such as legionella, etc. are avoided.

BgC All %harti Airtel o!!ices have !ire alarm systems. (eriodic !ire drills are carried

out in %harti Airtel o!!ices as a practice. All Airtel o!!ices are provided with irst Aidbo$es and have identi!ied people as irst Aid specialists..

%harti Airtel takes all its euipment !rom its key vendors, namely -okia andricsson, who comply with all the reuired health and sa!ety norms. ach contractwith the supplier has a clause that they will comply with our code o! conduct andeach year suppliers have to give %harti Airtel a certi!icate that they are compliant."here is an induction manual !or sub>contractors to ensure that they !ollow all thesa!ety and statutory compliances as well as %harti *tandard perating(rocedures.

%harti Airtel is in the process o! !inali#ing its nvironment@ ;ealth : *a!ety (olicyB;*C and will apply !or I* 17001 compliance within the ne$t 9 years !or each o! its !acilities.

Reduce 2ae# u*age3  Due to technological innovations such as e>bills andelectronic recharging, %harti Airtel customers are given a chance to help save theenvironment. "his has led to the major achievement o! paper savings o! appro$imately 98,500 s meter every month. "his leads to the saving o! EF trees

every year. In addition, as per calculations during 8005>0F, and is continuouslyimproving since then. 3e save 7E,000 s meter in plastic monthly as the reducedusage o! paper coupons and bills. "hese results are all the more remarkable, asthese paper savings were achieved despite our customer base increasing.

3e have e$tended our approach o! sharing even !or the rural areas, where itmakes lesser business sense !or operators to roll out. ur e!!orts have been wellacknowledged by the regulator and the government, who have initiated e!!orts !or shared rural roll out.

Reducing Fuel ,+n*u&ti+n due t+ t#ael3 %harti, having grown to be a largecompany on many counts, !aces the key issue o! operations coordination. 3hileone would usually coordinate with others through !ace>to>!ace meetings, %hartihas institutionali#ed the habit o! using videocon!erencing and intranet !acilities tointeract. "his signi!icantly reduces the need !or transport and thereby !uelconsumption, it saves on time and generally creates a much more e!!icientworking atmosphere. %harti&s earnings calls, i.e. sharing the results with our stakeholders, also happen via audio>bridge. "his enables investors and analystsworld>wide to link in to the call and raise ueries. %harti does not stop at providingthese !acilities !or internal use though. %y o!!ering our services, we enable people

"hese green>shelters use highinsulation material and (assive +ooling techniues like (+', a thermal salt, !or indoor %ase "ransceiver *tations B%"*C. Due to its high !ree#ing point, (+'provides cooling !or 7 to 5 hours without any Air conditioning, thus negating anyneed o! electrical power or diesel generator during that time. "his not only savescost but also minimi#es pollution. "hese green>shelters also keep noise at a

minimum. %harti is the !irst company in India to initiate such a measure, and iswell ahead o! governmental regulations on the matter.

ree>+ooling is another techniue that we use to maintain temperature levelduring night hours by circulating cooler natural air !rom outside to inside theshelter by reworking air conditioner !lows. "his has reduced air conditioner consumption by almost 90H.

%harti Airtel is also working with its suppliers and e$perimenting with alternatesources o! energy like solar, wind, bio>!uel@ hydrogen to !urther reduce

environmental impact. 3e are very keen to look at the viability o! thesetechnologies once e$periments are being !ound to be success!ul like in the caseo! reen *helters.

Ade#ti*e&ent Mate#ial3 %harti Airtel uses aua>based ink !or all its in>shopbranding, in spite o! its cost being three times the cost o! ink which is normallyused. "he aua>based ink is environment !riendly and does not emit any !umesand ha#ard. *ometimes !le$ materials are used !or hoardings, but since they arenot disposable these hoardings are donated to poor people so that they can use itas roo!>material on their huts.
