We said a sad goodbye to 1Lt Chester Grossie, who has left the squadron and
CAP after a long history of service. He will be remembered for his support of
our communications activities. Capt. Dicker and Lt Col Fruchtnicht presentedLt Grossie with a plaque commemorating his service to CAP and the Squadron.
We also said goodbye to our old 7 passenger van (42110) and Capt Dicker, and
Lts Tessitore and Greenmyer drove it up to Waco to hand it over, in order to
received our new 15 passenger van from Wing. We are busy outfitting the new
van (42116) to make it mission ready. It already has CAP radios installed with
a temporary antenna. We hope to include a laptop and a GPS, as well as all
the usual ES gear.

Tal le r Com m s. Tow er?A local benefactor has donated a 160ft radio tower to the CAP.
The tower has been dismantled. The plan is to use 60-80ft of
the tower to replace our existing tower at the US Army Reserve
Center, Aviation Support Facility (ASF), so our repeater and the
ASF radios can have a longer range, especially to the north of
Conroe. The remainder of the tower will be used by Delta
Squadron for their communications needs. We may need volunteers in the
near future to help with rust removal and painting of the tower sections before
they are re-erected.

Upcomm ing Even ts & Ac t i vi t i esSM SLS: February 7th -9th Squadron Senior Members (SMs) will be busy with
their Squadron Leadership School (SLS), a requirement for their level II
training. We are hosting this activity for the rest of the Group and Wing, and
anticipate that several other SMs will attend from other units, together with
Group and Wing Staff members. Because of the SLS activity, the Group 13
Commanders Call will be held in our facilities this Saturday also.
Ast ros : February 15th and 16th is our fundraising weekend when the Houston
Astros host collegiate games at Minute Maid Park. Our participation is NOT in
uniform, and so the squadron, together with our friends and family help in
manning activities, games and autograph booths in the stadium. In return for
our support the Astros donate funds to the squadron, so obviously we would
like to see a large turn out for this activity. Details will be distributed
separately.
