• Briefly describe what you see is taking place in the image on the left.
Herbivores
• Animals that eat plants or producers or autotrophs
• Primary consumers
Carnivores
• Animals that eat other animals or meat• 2 types: predators: kill & eat other animals
scavengers: eat animals that are already dead Ex) vultures
• Could be secondary or tertiary consumers• Could be top predators
Decomposers
• Part of consumers• Use O2 to decompose by decomposition
aerobic process• Eat wastes & dead organisms & decompose or
break down the wastes & dead material into simple materials like CO2 & nitrogen compounds recycle into the air or soil!
• Function at all levels of a food chain
Group Activity
• Analyze the following food chains. List the different types of consumers in it & state what types of consumers they are.
• Grassmousesnakedecomposer• Grassmousehawkdecomposer• Grassmouseowldecomposer• Grasscricketfrogowldecomposer
