Keynote Speech 1

Dr Chua is the KITHCT Chair Professor at the School of Computing, National University of Singapore. He was the Acting and Founding Dean of the School from 1998-2000. Dr Chua's main research interests include multimedia information retrieval, social media analytics, and the emerging applications in Chatbot, wellness and Fintech. He is the co-Director of NExT, a joint Center between NUS and Tsinghua University on Extreme Search. Dr Chua is the recipient of the 2015 ACM SIGMM Achievements Award for the Outstanding Technical Contributions to Multimedia Computing, Communications and Applications. He is the Chair of steering committee of ACM International Conference on Multimedia Retrieval (ICMR) and Multimedia Modeling (MMM) conference series. Dr Chua is also the General Co-Chair of ACM Multimedia 2005, ACM CIVR (now ACM ICMR) 2005, ACM SIGIR 2008, and ACM Web Science 2015. He serves in the editorial boards of three international journals. Dr. Chua is the co-Founder of two technology startup companies in Singapore. He holds a PhD from the University of Leeds, UK.

As Head of the Textiles Programme at the Royal College of Art, Anne Toomey leads a team of expert specialist staff and over 130 postgraduate students working at the creative interface between materials, making and meaning. Their focus is innovation that impacts and spans across many sectors, exploring new territories for the twenty-first century Textiles specialist. Under her leadership, the Textiles Programme has established the Soft Systems Research Group whose remit includes the following: An exploration of the way that our SOFT material

world resonates with the human condition to find new opportunities and solutions involving human interfaces, user acceptance and experience.

Concerned with affective and sensory material values within a technological landscape.

Developing innovative processes, surfaces, structures and soft systems to form products that reimagine our relationships with materials

Incorporating aspects of advanced materials into a textile led approach to design

Bridge the gap between lab and manufacture A Design-Led Interrogation of Graphene & 2D

materials to develop a platform of material formats for Designers

Prof. Toomey is a textiles specialist with national and international experience in research-based design, product development, manufacture and student centered education. As a design researcher, her research questions and challenges the role of new materials and fabrication technologies in Design for the 21st century.

Keynote Speech 3

Professor Calvin Wong is Cheng Yik Hung Professor in Fashion at the Institute of Textiles and Clothing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His main research focuses on fashion and artificial intelligence integration, computer vision, image feature extraction, and pattern recognition for fashion and textiles. His research outcome is highly recognized by both the academia and the industry and generates a great impact on fashion and textile sectors. Professor Wong is leading the Textile and Apparel Artificial Intelligence (TAAI) Research Group which have been conducting fundamental and applied research on artificial intelligence (AI), computer vision and machine learning, specifically for the fashion and textile industry since 2010. His academic research deliverables have also been patented and successfully licensed to the fashion and textile industry for commercial use. Recently, Professor Wong has collaborated with Alibaba Group to establish the first-of-its-kind “FashionAI Dataset” for enabling machine to better understand fashion, bringing a new horizon to the fashion retail industry through the application of AI. Professor Wong has also successfully developed an intelligent fabric defect detection system, called "WiseEye", which leverages advanced technologies including AI and Deep Learning in the process of quality control in textile industry. Professor Wong has published over 110 research articles in Science Citation Index journals including the world leading journals in artificial intelligence field, such as IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems (TNNLS), IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, Pattern Recognition, etc. Essential Science Indicators has ranked his two recent research publications in TNNLS among the top 1% of the most cited articles. Professor Wong has authored and edited three books on the integration of artificial intelligence techniques with the fashion and textile industry, including the first-two-ever on the topics of “Optimizing Decision Making in the Apparel Supply Chain Using AI: From Production to Retailing” and “Applications of Computer Vision in Fashion and Textiles”. Currently he is also Associate Editor of Neurocomputing.

Over the past ten years, Professor Wong received sixteen research related awards, including best research paper awards in international research conferences, and international and regional innovation awards. On the basis of his research track record, he has always been invited as plenary, keynote and invited speaker, technical programme committee member, and track chair of several international academic conferences. As a key pioneer in the integration of artificial intelligence with fashion and textile, Professor Wong served as the Conference Chair of the world’s first conference on the integration of fashion and artificial intelligence, “Artificial Intelligence on Fashion and Textile International Conference 2018” (AIFT), co-organized with Alibaba Group and The Textile Institute, UK on July 3 – 6 2018.
