Lebanon officially the Lebanese Republic is a country in the East Mediterranean .It is bordered by Syria to the north and east and Palestine/Israel to the south. Lebanon's location at the crossroads of the Mediterranean Basin and the Arabian hinterland has dictated its rich history and shaped a cultural identity of religious and ethnic diversity.

Lebanon has a moderate Mediterranean climate. In coastal areas, winters are generally cool and rainy whilst summers are hot and humid. In more elevated areas, temperatures usually drop below freezing during the winter with heavy snow cover that remains until early summer on the higher

mountaintops.

In April and mid May you can enjoy Skiing in the mountains and then head to beach with a perfect

Swim!!

The culture of Lebanon is the cross culture of various civilizations over thousands of years. Originally home to the Phoenicians and then subsequently conquered and occupied by the Assyrians, the Persians, the Greeks, the Romans, the Arabs, the Crusaders, the 0 t tom an Turks and most recently the French, Lebanese culture has over the millennia evolved by borrowing from all of these groups. Lebanon's diverse population, composed of different ethnic and religious groups, has further contributed to the country's festivals, musical styles and literature as well as

cuisine. Despite the ethnic, linguistic, religious and denominational diversity of the Lebanese, they "share an almost common culture". Lebanese Arabic is universally spoken while food, music, and literature are deep-rooted "in wider Mediter-

ranean and Levantine norms".

Lebanese cuisine includes an abundance of tl starches, fruits, vegetables, fresh fish and seafood; animal fats are consumed sparingly. Poultry is eaten more often than red meat. When red meat is eaten it is usually lamb on the coast, and goat meat in the mountain regions. It also includes copious amounts of garlic and olive oil, often seasoned by lemon juice; olive oil, herbs, garlic and lemon are typical flavors found in the Lebanese diet. However, Lebanon also has a wide

variety of international and tasty cousins.

Recently, after the long years of the civil war and reoccurring periods of political unrest in Lebanon, Lebanon has become an increasingly popular destination for tourism. In fact, in 2009, the New York Times ranked Beirut the No. 1 travel destination worldwide due to its Unique Nightlife and Hospitality. Its rich history, historic sites, mild climate, along with other factors, have all made Lebanon currently one of the most visited countries in the Middle East. Lebanon, even in its post-war state, has managed to attract around 2,352,081 tourists in 2010. Statistics have shown that Lebanon's tourist attraction rate has been increasing rapidly and the Ministry of Tourism predicts that this ongoing trend will amplify in the coming years.

Lebanon has a wonderful nightlife, it is possible to find bars, nightclubs, pubs and restaurants of all possible styles; it is guaranteed that every single taste will be satisfied. Lebanon is considered to have one of the best gastronomical offers in the Middle east, the Lebanese blood of its residents makes them assist to the local nightclubs to show their dancing skills; also it is possible to find more relaxing plans like having a drink or a coffee in many places around the city, like cultural and recreational activities; all these makes Lebanon a wonderful destination for all those interested in discovering the nocturnal side of its culture.

Despite of having anything to do during the entire year, the main days for going out are on Fridays and Saturdays, however every day of the week has something to offer.

The majority of travellers use service taxis to get from place to place. "Service" taxis often operate like buses on set routes between towns and cities, though they can be hired to visit other places with some negotiation. Each taxi carries between 4 (inside metropolitan areas) to 6 (longer distances) passengers, who share the fare between them. The Fare is 1750 LL (Lebanese lira) although since most don't have change it is expected to pay 2000 which is about $1.33 for short distances of a couple of km, and increases depending on both distance to be traveled, traffic on that specific road and of course, like everything in Lebanon, persuasion In ego t i at ion ski II s. A private Taxi ride, without having to share with other passengers is similar to a "Service" Taxi, in that the same pre-negotiation is required to determine the fare, and as a rule of thumb, costs the same as a fully loaded "Service" Taxi (the fare* number of passengers).
