Sri Lanka is known as one of the worlds greatest locations for biodiversity. As a tropical island,

the nations climates and geographies vary in extremes, creating unique and flourishing regions.

The capital city Colombo is located on the coast of the Southwest providence of Sri Lanka. The

Southwest coast is defined physically by its temperate climate, and its relationship with water.

Colombo is home to numerous canals, rivers and lakes, most notably the Kelani River and BeiraLake, in addition to its adjacency to the Indian Ocean. The latter, has shaped Colombo as a port

city, attracting trades, tourism and the influence of new cultures for centuries. Consequently,

Colombo boasts a not only a richly diversified geography, but a city-culture as well..

With an anaerobic digester, organic waste, such as food w

farming residue and even human waste, can be convertedbio-methane (natural gas), and used as energy. As a mea

harvest enough waste. The organic waste will be transpo

sanitation points to temporary storage sites, before being

back to the Embassy Medical system (all transportation v

electric vehicles). It can than be placed in the digester a

converted into clean energy.

SITE ANALYS IS & PLANNING STRATEGIES

Building forms are laid on the site in an organic, flowing manner, with soft sinuous

to create an informal, welcoming and human feeling, and set within a natural lands

series of gardens. A prominent arrival plaza creates a strong sense of place and cle

wayfinding to the entry lobby. The atrium lobby creates a soaring, light filled inspir

space, where the glass roof is designed to induce natural ventilation through the en

space.

The Inpatient Tower is planned as a modern, highly efficient healthcare facility, wit

bed tower sitting above the Diagnosis and Treatment block on floors 1 and 2. To cr

visual excitement the bed tower is lifted above the D+T floors to create an interstit

air level arrayed with roof gardens. This breezeway level also facilitates natural fl

through ventilation into two skylit glazed atriums courts that provide light, air and v

through the bed tower.
