Most important historical place in Bangladesh. It was the official residential palace and seat of the Dhaka Nawab Family. It was built in 1859-1872. Situated at Kumartoli along the banks of Buriganga river. It has been designated as the nation museum in Bangladesh.

It was actually built by Nawab sir Abdul Gani in 1872.Named it Ahsan Manzil after the name of his belovedson Khwaza Ahsanullah. The palace was reconstructedin 1888.The Dome was created in the time of reconstruct.

Glory DaysIn 1874, Lord Northbrook, Governor Generalof India attended an evening function at AhsanManzil. In 1888, Lord Dufferin also accepted the hospitality offered at Ahsan Manzil. In 1904Lord Curzon, on a visit to East Bengal, stayed inthis palace on 18 and 19 February to win publicsupport for the proposed Partition of Bengal.Almost all political activities of Nawab KhwajaSalimullah centred round this palace.Ahsan Manzil was the cradle of theAll India Muslim League.

DeclineIn 1952, the Dhaka Nawab State was acquiredunder the East Bengal Estate Acquisition Act.Nawab Khwaja Habibullah started living at Paribag Green House soon after the acquisitionof the zamindari. After the independence of Bangladesh, most of the nawab family went toAbroad. On 1974, the owners of the palace decidedto put it up for auction.

Construction

The building structure was established on a raised platform of 1 meter, the two-storied palace measures 125.4m by 28.75m. Theheight of the ground floor is 5 meters and the height of the first floor is 5.8 meters. The thickness of the walls of the palace isabout 0.78 meters. The peak of this dome is 27.13 m above theground.

Renovation

In 1985 government of Bangladesh recognizing Ahsan Manzil as aHistorical place. In 1992 it brought under the control of Bangladesh National museum. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman ordered toEstablish Ahsan Manzil as a museum and tourist center person Consenvation on1974. The total area of acquired land was 5.65 acres.
