AbstractInthepastthedevelopmentoftheproton‐antiprotoncollideratCERN(andFNAL)reliedon6‐Dcoolingofthebeam.WebrieflyrecountthisandthefollowingdiscoveryoftheWandZbosonsasanexampleofwhatweworkedon.Currently,apossiblediscoveryofsimilarmagnitudecouldbemadewithaµ+µ‐collider.Againasinthecollider,6Dbeamcoolingiscrucial.Thecurrentversionoftheµ+µcolliderwasstartedinDecember1991ataUCLAworkshophelpinNapa,California.Itwasrapidlyrealizedthatsucha�machineisalsoaHiggsbosonfactory.Workshopsinthe1990sconfirmedthisfact.InthecaseofthesupersymmetricAandHHiggsbosonstheinterferenceofthesetwostatesmightbeoneoriginofCPViolationinNature.CPViolationcanleadtoanexcessofmatteroverantimatterinthecurrentuniverse.Again,6Dbeamcoolingisneeded!Weindicatesomeofthepossiblemethodsfor6Dcoolingincludingtheuseofa50Tsolenoid‐agreattechnicalleapforward.

Intherecenthistoryofelementaryparticlephysicsthecoolingofabeamto6D(momentumandangle)hasbeenveryimportantforthediscoveryofthew/zbosonsatCERNandthetopquarkatFNAL.Withtheadventofthemuoncolliderconcept,6Dcoolingwillbecomecrucialagain.Todevelopimportantdiscoveriessuchasthepropertiesoftheh0Higgsbosons(theoriginofmass)andCPviolation(thepossibleoriginoflargeamountsofmatterintheuniversecomparedtoantimatter)couldbestudied.TheHiggsfactorywouldproducethelargestnumberintheworld.ThemuoncolliderHiggsfactoriescouldbeamajorbreakthrough.Wehaveshownoneformof6Dmuoncoolingthatusesa50Teslamagnet(thelargestfieldsofar)beingstudiedbythecompanyParticleBeamLasersInc.andBrookhavenNationalLabs.
