WHAT IS AGRICULTURE ?

Agriculture is the science 0r practice of farming, including cultivation of the soil for the growing of crops and the rearing of animals to provide food, wool, and other products.

AGRONOMY: The agronomy is branch of agriculture which deals with the principle and practices of crop production and soil management.

Horticulture: The branch of agriculture which deals with the cultivation of fruits vegetables and ornamental plants.

Nomadic herding is a subsistence practice type of grazing .People raise animals for their own food and move them from place to place to areas of available pasture.

Commercial Agriculture

Increasing international demand for palm oil, beef, soy and wood is fuelling the illegal destruction of tropical forests at an alarming rate, according to new analysis that suggests nearly half of all recent tropical deforestation is the result of unlawful clearing for commercial agriculture.

Specialized farming that occurs only in areas where the dry summer Mediterranean climate prevails (grapes, olives, figs, citrus, fruits, dates.)

Agriculture has great importance in over populated wolrd, without giving due importance to agriculture,it is impossible to feed the people of the world and man cannot live without food.

Provision of basic necessities of life

1 Food: All of the food stuffs which to eat and to keep ourselves alive are the production of agriculture such as milk ,meat ,seeds ,fruits and vegetables etc.

2 Cloth: cloth of all the major kinds are made from such agriculture product as cotton wool jute and natural silk.

3 Shelter: Tree trunks wood and leaves have been sheltering mankind from ages.

GREEN REVOLUTION

The green revolution was a partly plant engineering programme where new varieties and strains of crops were produced to increase yields.

The development and introduction of high yielding (HYVs) of rice and wheat was described as a green revolution.
