Forms of Agriculture in Pakistan1. Small Scale Subsistance Farming

It is also known as domestic farming, because such farming is carried on small scale and most of the produced product is locally consumed and small surplus is exported. The farmers also keep some cattle to get milk such type of farming is carried on.

2. Cash Crop Farming Also called commercial farming and cash cropping, it is a type of farming in which cash crops are grown. produced for the purpose of generating cash or money. The products are therefore intended to be marketed for profit

Role of Agriculture in Producing Resources for Economic Development of Pakistan

• Agriculture contributes alot in the annual production (GDP) in the economy of Pakistan.

• Pakistan earns foreign exchange by exporting some agricultural products wheat, rice, cotton etc.

• To sustain massive population agriculture is playing a key role.

• Agriculture is helping many industries in Pakistan by providing raw material to these industries.

• Agriculture helps the government by increasing its tax revenue.

Pattern of Modernization in Agriculture with Reference of Green Revolution (1958-1969)

• The Green Revolution of the mid-1960s, which brought increases in food production and rural incomes and the sustainable modernization of agriculture.

• The Agriculture sector in Pakistan was modernized at a great extent during Ayub Khan era.

• As a result of land reforms introduced by Ayub more then four million acres of land was released for public aquisition.

• Due to his special attention on this sector Pakistan in his era almost got self-sufficient in production of wheat.

• No mechanism has been adopted to eradicate the soil erosion

• Even after harvesting nothing is done to improve or restore the soil energy/ fertility

• Water wastage is very high in our country• Owing old methods of cultivation and harvesting• The small farmers are increasing in our country as

the lands are dividing generation by generation• Water logging and salinity is increasing day by day

Remedies for the Problems of Agriculture Sector in Pakistan

• Feudalism should be abolished• Productivity enhancement programme must be

constituted• Latest mechinery should be provided to the

farmers• Modern techniques of irrigation• More dams should be constructed on Indus,

Jehlum and Chenab rivers
