5.Something about me: I am an Architect, a Photographer and a Designer. I am a young licensed architect with 3 years experience in a range of both large and small scale projects. From 2005 to 2011 I studied Architecture at Politecnico di Milano where I achieved the Master’s Degree in Architecture (110 with honor/110). My thesis Changing Habit: a low impacts system for temporary constructions, concerned the study of a system made of a structure that is repeatable into space and that can assume multiple configurations, according to different temporary situations. During my previous professional experiences both in ITALY and PARIS, I developed a strong management skill and strict sense of responsibilities, besides practical knowledge. Furthermore, during my collaborations I improved my knowledge in the field of design, animation and publishing. At the present time I am working as project manager for a project of an office building in Paris, at Studio Odile Decq, but I have the opportunity to move and work under a j-2 visa permit in New York City. To provide any additional information needed, my website and my Video Resume will fully detail my quali-fications and work experiences: www.giuliaagostinelli.com

7.Placed between the dense city and the sea, the project aims to fill the existing gap between the natural landscape and the city itself. Therefore, the idea is to draw back the beach in order to give at least 10m more to the sea sidewalk, that now appears undersized and not consistent with the actual users needs. The new sidewalk will become a strong trace on the landscape, that will stand as an element of decompression between the city and the beach. Moreover, the project is based on different layers that represent not only different functions but also different altitudes of the site itslef: the road, the cycle route, the sidewalk, the dunes, the beach facilities oasis, the dunes and the sea footbridge, each one identified by a different trace on the ground and different materials. Thanks to the presence of the dunes, the project takes advantages of the different levels of the ground to create underground storage spaces, in order to replace the existing concrete structures with a more flex-ible and sustainable model of beach facility. Seen at the sidewalk level, these dunes appear as green hills. The natural element enters the project also thanks to the presence of oasis, green areas on which flexible and temporary beach facilities will be placed.

9.Operating in the field of temporary constructions, the aim is to develop a project that excludes the idea of a completely defined module (which implies a huge waste of resources) choosing instead to develop a system with changing and adaptable configurations. The concept phase brings to the design of an assembly kit composed of a limited number of simple ele-ments, and that, considering the whole life cycle, is characterized by low costs, reversibility, recycling or reuse of the entire structure or of some of its elements. Finally, the project, called Changing Habit, con-sists basically of a two-dimensional mobile frame, formed by bars and connections: thanks to few linear elements characterized by small size, it is possible to obtain a structure that is replaceable into different kinds of spaces and that can assume multiple configurations. This structure is also characterized by the development along a longitudinal direction, by the use of portals as basic modular element, and by the movement of its own constitutive elements to achieve different configurations. The aim is to achieve the minimum complexity with a system that, using the least possible amount of material, can convey multiple and variable spaces, with very few movements. Moreover, Changing Habit’ can be employed in different cases of temporary situations: in fact, the system is based on a structure that is mobile itself, in its parts, in its different configurations.

11.The idea of the plan was conceived from the analysis of the existing predominant lines of the site, charac-terized by the presence of an historic hospital. The concept consists on a regular mesh that merges existing buildings and the hospital itself. The aim is in fact to trace a series of urban tissues that refers to existing building features, such as the strong closure on the north street side, the minor density of buildings on the south and the consequent presence of a surrounding green belt. The multiplex was conceived from the fluxes developing on the sites: the idea is based on a wide dis-tributed space, spread enough to allow the integration of all cinemas and functional spaces inside itself. Theaters are in fact realized as autonomous nodes both on terms of functional program and structure: the constructing technique is a self supporting cage made of steel that is self sufficient for each cell. On the contrary, the distribution space that connects each unit is mainly in glass, not only to increase natural illumination but also to underline the symbolic value of spaces themselves: on one side, theaters are solid and opaque items, on the other side, distribution spaces that “flow” through theaters, are transparent and permeable.

WORK PROJECTS 2015at Djuric-Tardio Architectes

building with wood

Page 13: Agostinelli Architecture Portfolio 2016

13.I worked at Djuric-Tardio Architectes for 6 months from September 2014 to February 2015, with the support of the European exchange programme Leonardo DaVinci for young licensed architects. I was hired as an junior architect; I expected to learn more about sustainability in simple building systems and to deepened my knwoledge about the wood construction. During my time there I was primarily in charge of the concept for a single family house in Verrière-les-Buisson, from the drawings to regulations and clients relationships. The two-story-house, is character-ized by the presence of a south-oriented winter garden, that is both a shelter for the main entrance, and a filter space between the spacious living room inside and the garden outside. I also had the opportunity to work on the concept of different affordable housing in the parisian region with a particular attention to the sustainable pratctices, both from a technical and a designing point of view: the idea was to exploit the concept of terraces shelterd by wooden pergolas covered with growing plants and characterized by different shapes and inclinations. Furthermore, I was also involved in a competition for the design of a sustainable neighborhood in Targon; the firm won the competition.

WORK PROJECTS 2014at NIM Architecture

a study on space optimisation

Page 15: Agostinelli Architecture Portfolio 2016

15.I worked at Nim Architecture for 4 months from April to July 2014 in a brief collaboration; the small firm works primarily with private clients for family houses extensions, renovations and conversions of apart-ments, lofts and boutiques. My aim was to be able to cope independently with the french regulations for construction permits and to exploit the opportunity to work on small scale projects to be acquainted with technical aspects of the construction site.During my work there I was in charge of a renovation for a 40 square meters studio apartment in Paris. The clients wanted to transform the property in order to give some space for their upcoming baby, while obtaining two different work spaces in the living room and in the bedroom. I worked on very different propositions designed to optimize the available surface, always keeping in mind the cost constraints.I also collaborated on an extension for a single family house in the parisian region. The concept was to recover and refurbish an unused space around the existing house: the solution proposes a glass-roofed space for the study and the kitchen, that leads to the creation of a spacious living room and an intimate reading corner in the bow-window.
