Aggie STeM service DescriPTions Aggie STEM provides all levels of professional development. The center tailors the services provided to fit an individual school or school district’s needs. Our conceptualized STEM project-based learning (PBL) professional development can integrate reform strategies or school initiatives, such as SIOP – Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol, CRISS – Creating Independence through Student-owned Strategies or IFL – Institute For Learning.

pbL – proJect-baSeD LearningPBL is a well-defined outcome and ill-defined task. Project -based learning is the use of a project that often results in the emergence of various learning outcomes in addition to the ones anticipated. The learning is dynamic as students use various processes and methods to explore the project. The project is generally information rich, but directions are kept to a minimum. The richness of the information is often directly related to the quality of the learning and level of student engagement. The information is often multifaceted and includes background information, graphs, pictures, specifications, generalized and specific outcome expectations, narrative, and in many cases, the formative and summative expectations.

pLc – profeSSionaL Learning communitieSProfessional learning communities (PLCs) are educators working collaboratively to improve classroom teaching and learning. Claiming to have a PLC, though, is considerably different than doing a high-quality one. Our practical approach aids teachers and school leaders in learning how to create and sustain a high-quality PLC that will increase student learning and teacher satisfaction.

generating math anD Science SucceSS with african-american anD hiSpanic StuDentSIn many instances, one of the barriers to academic success in math and science is a lack of understanding of the culture of African-American and Hispanic students or of the most successful ways to work with these students. To assist schools and districts in addressing this problem, we can provide African-American and Hispanic university professors who have special expertise in this area. These professors include:• Dr. Gwen Webb-Johnson• Dr. Kathryn McKenzie• Dr. Fred Bonner• Dr. Linda Castillo

agiLe minDFrom biology to mathematics, Agile Mind provides convenient, hands-on animations and simulations, detailed lesson plans, rich formative assessments, correlations to TEKS and textbooks, lesson support and scaffolding for English language learners, and much more! After using Agile Mind, you will recognize that it is focused on aiding teachers to help ALL students succeed. This online service, based on the most current research and best practices, is designed to foster, sustain and scale teacher success so that ultimately, students succeed.

inTegraTeD Technology

The center offers the following technology training, which is integrated into project-based learning.

Smart boarD/mimio boarDThe SMART Board is a interactive, electronic whiteboard that can enhance instruction and learning. The SMART

Notebook software makes it possible for teachers to create content-rich, dynamic lessons that address specific student skills.

ti navigatorThe TI-Navigator system creates a powerful connection between students and educator by wirelessly networking each student’s graphing calculator to the classroom computer. A growing body of research shows that effective use of the TI-Navigator system and graphing calculators improves student engagement, understanding and performance.

ti graphing caLcuLatorSParticipants will learn “hands-on” how to use the new features of the most recent graphing calculators to enhance the teaching and learning of elementary and intermediate algebra and science.

cpS – cLaSSroom performance SyStem CPS is a student-response system using wireless connectivity. It gives instructors and students immediate feedback from the entire class. The response pads are remotes, which are durable, easy to use and engaging for students.
