PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE: Planning for Succession after 30 Years of Leadership

One of my favorite quotes is from famed football coach Vince Lombardi - “the achievements of an organization are the result of the combined efforts of each individual.” It is with a real sense of gratitude that I thank the passionate leaders who have stepped up over the years to serve on the boards, committees, councils, and as employees of the Foundation. It is because of these people, and the more than 1,000 leadership program participants, that I can truly say I have been blessed with the best job in the world.

Washington State natural resource industries - from forestry to shellfish and all of the support industries in between - have benefited from effective leadership. These industries and public agencies are peppered with leaders we call classmates, participants, and graduates of the AgForestry Leadership Program. Each and every one of these leaders, and the companies, organizations, and agencies they support, has been profoundly affected by the impact of this program and especially the leadership of one man.

REFLECTIONS FROM THE BOARD CHAIR

The Board of Trustees has appointed a succession planning committee which is diligently working with the board and staff on plans for a smooth management transition so the mission of the Foundation continues unhampered. I look forward to reflecting on our fun times, accomplishments, and the good work of the Foundation as this year continues. This program year will be the most powerful ever as we work for our participants and investors - to whom I am forever grateful for the opportunity to serve over the last 30 years.

In honor of Dave’s significant contributions to the AgForestry Leadership Program and its participants, and to the natural resource industries in Washington State and across the globe, we will soon be launching the Dave and Jan Roseleip Endowment, which will help fund the annual International Study Seminar.

Please watch for more information on our website, Facebook page, and AgForestry Network emails to find out how you can become involved and pay your AgForestry experience forward by honoring Dave in a way that will celebrate his legacy and contribute to the continued success of the AgForestry Leadership Program.

Coming Soon!

Despite receiving many accolades for his leadership, vision, and mentorship, Dave has remained a humble man. It is a bittersweet event when long-time employees retire. Our Foundation will miss his leadership, wealth of knowledge, and tenacity. The AgForestry family is happy for Dave and wishes him and his wonderful wife Jan all the best that retirement can bring them.
