Of the 1.4 million people living in private dwellings in Peel in May 2016, 49.1% were male and 50.9% were female. The average age in Peel was 38.3 years, the lowest in the GTA. Females had an average age of 39.1 in Peel, while males had an average age of 37.5.

In Peel, the population aged 0 to 14 accounted for 18.3% of the population, down from 19.7% in 2011. In the GTA, the population aged 0 to 14 accounted for 16.7% of the population, down from 17.5% in 2011. Peel had the second highest proportion of population aged 0 to 14 (18.3%) in the GTA. From 2011 to 2016, the population aged 0 to 14 shrunk 0.5% in Peel, and grew 5.2% in Brampton and 4.5% in Caledon, while it declined 6.1% in Mississauga. Peel had the second highest decline in population aged 0 to 14 in the GTA.

In Peel, the population aged 65+ accounted for 12.8% of the population, up from 10.5% in 2011. In the GTA, the population aged 65+ accounted for 14.7% of the population, up from 12.8% in 2011. Peel had the lowest proportion of population aged 65+ (12.8%) in the GTA.

From 2011 to 2016, the Population aged 65+ grew 30.2% in Peel, 24.9% in Mississauga, 39.6% in Brampton, 27.2% in Caledon, and 21.4% in the GTA. Peel had the second highest growth in population aged 65+ (30.2%) in the GTA.

In 2016, the working age population (15 to 64) accounted for 68.9% of the population in Peel, the second highest proportion in the GTA. From 2011 to 2016, the population aged 15 to 64 grew 5.0% in Peel, 12.4% in Brampton, 11.5% in Caledon, and 4.4% in the GTA, while it declined 0.9% in Mississauga. Peel had the second highest growth in population aged 15 to 64 (5.0%) in the GTA.

In May 2016, 45.6% of occupied private dwellings in Peel were single-detached, 11.9% were semi-detached, 13.1% were row houses, and 29.4% were apartments. Since 2011, Peel has seen a small decrease in the proportion of single-detached dwellings (0.8%) and a small increase in semi-detached (0.1%), row houses (0.4%), and apartments (0.5%).
