HORSES: Lifestyle and habitat

BY TINA BARNARD

Page 2: Ages of Horses

Introduction• I am really interested in horses, and have been all my life, as I have grown

up with horses in the family. I also own a horse, which I love very much - His name is Jack, he is a stunning 2 year old black cob.

• Horses are such friendly and loving animals when you get to know them. They express a lot of grace, they make you feel as if you’re a part of something significant, and spending time looking after them can be very rewarding.

• I hope, my viewers, will enjoy this presentation and maybe try to get to know horses better and, perhaps, even learn to ride a horse.

Horse grooming

REASONS FOR GROOMING

• Keeps the skin and coat in good condition

• Less likely to develop skin problems

• To keep a check on the horses general health

• To form a bond with the horse, building confidence and trust

• Overall enhances horses physical appearance

TOOLS USED FOR GROOMING

• Curry comb (plastic) – Used to loosen dirt and debris and to stimulate the skin

• Dandy brush (Hard bristled) – This brush is used on the legs but not on the head

• Stable runner – A towel or cloth used to give a finish to the horses coat after riding

• Hoof pick – An essential tool for cleaning the hooves of mud after riding

• Body brush (soft) – For removal of dirt to the face and body, also adds shine to the coat

• Often horses groom each other

THROUGHOUT CENTURIES WE HAVE USED HORSES FOR MANY PURPOSES

• Police officers on horses are highly visible and play a important role to control crowds at sporting events and public ceremonies.

•Horse drawn carriages are very romantic, and are used for special events such as a wedding or anniversary.

•Funeral carriage is quite popular for funerals, with people who has owned horses or who has shown a great interest in them.

•Farming type of work is done by draught horses to prepare farmers fields ready for cultivation.
