The Early Memory Loss Support Program became a part of AGE in January 2012. It was founded by

the Westlake Presbyterian Church.

Keith’s Story

Keith is 60 years old and recently retired from a successful career within the software industry, which included a position with NASA. Keith has a diagnosis of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), a common precursor to dementia. Through AGE’s Early Memory Loss Support Program (EMLS), he is adjusting to his changing capabilities and enjoying the support of others who are also living with early-stage memory loss.

This is part of a letter Keith wrote:

My onset began before I realized. I was laid off of jobs and didn’t realize why. “Too slow.” “Inaccurate.” I have 2 graduate degrees: marine biology and electrical engineering.

my wife figured it out.

She researched and found the ‘AGE’ group in Austin. … I have met many friendly and helpful people and staff (staff are people too!). The fellowship between the members is fun and informative to compare their feelings, opinions, and disabilities challenges (hate that word, disabilities) with my own.

I enjoy the music, current events, and brain teasers (even though they are difficult for me). I like lunch because we get time to get to know each other, share food, and ‘bond’.

P.S. My wife likes to have a break to relax and not have to worry

about me for a few hours!
