Each day, I see people who are seeking a quick treatment that makes them look well-rested but doesn’t entail downtime. I routinely achieve this with a “liquid lift”: a combination of Botox or dermal fi ller, used together or alone. Until this year, the main concern people had with this treatment was the risk of bruising. This is the tell-tale sign of a recent injectable treatment. Even though injectable treatments are now the single most common aesthetic procedure in the U.S., most people don’t want their colleagues at work, or even family members, to know that they’ve just had a treatment.

I recently trained with a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, using a new device which eliminates bruising: the dermasculpt microcannula. Developed in France, this microcannula has revolutionized the way I perform facial fi ller injections.

HOW IT WORKSUsing the Skin Sculpting Technique™ (SST), I slide the dermasculpt microcannula under the patient’s skin so that the fi ller may be applied with practically no pain or bruising. Because the fi llers (Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse) are pre-mixed with local anesthesia, there’s virtually no discomfort. Even patients who may have some apprehensions about needles are now at ease with the injection.

COMMON AREAS TREATEDThe cannulas and SST that I use are particularly helpful in areas such as the nasolabial folds, cheeks, temples, under-eye “tear tough” creases (to eliminate dark circles), décolleté, and hands. Filler treatments done with needles usually require multiple puncture sites and typically result in excessive pain and bleeding. As compared to a sharp bevel-edged needle, the microcannula has a blunt, non-traumatic tip which is inherently gentler on the tissues. A single injection port can be used for any of these entire areas.

THE BOTTOM LINE The dermasculpt microcannula produces less swelling and bruising, and allows for faster recovery. The painless and non-traumatic fi lling process also results in less local infl ammation, which increases the longevity of the fi ller and its cosmetic benefi ts. I’m the fi rst and only provider in Washington State to offer this method of non-traumatic injections at the Medical Spa.
