3.2 Biathlon Competitors are scored in each of the two events – Jerk and Snatch.

One point is awarded for every correct Jerk repetition, as defined in SPECIFIC DETAILS OF THE LIFTS.

One half point will be awarded for each correct Snatch repetition, as defined in SPECIFIC DETAILS OF THE LIFTS.

Scores from the competitor’s two sets (Jerk and Snatch) are added together for an overall point score. The competitor with the highest point score wins.

3.3 Tie / DrawIn the event of a tie the win will be awarded to the competitor with the lower bodyweight at the time of weigh-in.

3.4 Concerning high ranksRanks of Candidate for Master of Sports (CMS), Master of Sport (MS) or Master of Sport International Classification (MSIC) will not be awarded at a competition. Competitors who are attempting to achieve these ranks must record their entire competition set and send it to Agatsu for review, following the competition. The video will be analyzed to verify that all counted repetitions were performed correctly. Upon completion of the review, Agatsu will contact competitors of their success in obtaining the rank.

It is recommended that competitors plan on completing several extra repetitions, if possible, due to the potential for no counts during the review process. Competitors will receive mention of an unofficial rank at the competition. Further information concerning no counts is available in SPECIFIC DETAILS OF THE LIFTS.

9. SPECIFIC DETAILS OF THE LIFTS

9.1 Jerk: The Jerk is performed either bilaterally with two kettlebells (officially) or unilaterally with one kettlebell (unofficial).

At the command “START”, the kettlebell(s) are cleaned to the chest (rack position). The Jerk must begin with legs straight, bent knees are not permitted. The kettlebell(s) must be moved from the rack position to overhead fixation in one continuous, uninterrupted movement (using either two leg dips, one leg dip or no leg dip). During fixation the knees and elbows are locked, the torso, head and arms are in line and the kettlebells come to a complete and visible stop. After the platform judge announces the repetition count, the competitor drops the kettlebell(s) to the rack position.

If competing unilaterally, no lateral (sideways) pelvic tilt is allowed once fixated. One hand switch is permitted. The switch must be performed by dropping into a backswing, swinging kettlebell in front of body, switching hands at the top of swing, and cleaning to the second side rack position. Extra swings are not permitted. The kettlebell must remain in motion throughout the switch. Hanging/stopping of the kettlebell not permitted.

Note: A clear and visible fixation with an accented stop is the most important technical requirement.

9.1.1 “STOP” command A stop command is issued for the following:

After the initial clean, resting the kettlebells on the shoulders or holding the elbows above the shoulders.

Lowering the kettlebell(s) past the chest (rack position). No swinging or re-cleaning is allowed. In the unilateral event, if this happens on the first

arm, the competitor is to switch to the second arm and continue. In the unilateral event, if a competitor switches arms without a swing (i.e. passing from

one hand to the other without swinging in between). In the unilateral event, if a competitor attempts a second hand switch.

9.1.2 “NO COUNT” A no count is issued for the following:

Starting the Jerk in a bent knee position, or by lowering directly to the rack position with bent knees and failing to straightening the legs before commencing the next Jerk.

Lack of visible, accented stop in fixation. Kettlebell movement in fixation. Legs and/or arms are not straight and locked in fixation. Lateral (sideways) pelvic tilt while in fixation. In the unilateral event, touching any body part, the kettlebell or the platform with the free

arm or hand in a way that aids the lift.

9.2 Long Cycle: Long Cycle is performed bilaterally with two kettlebells (officially) and unilaterally with one kettlebell (unofficial).

Long Cycle consists of two movements: the Clean (to rack position) and the Jerk (to fixation).

At the command “START”, the kettlebell(s) are cleaned to the chest (rack position). The kettlebell(s) must stop in rack position, with legs straight and knees locked out before commencing the Jerk. The competitor then performs a Jerk, as described in section 9.1. After the platform judge announces the repetition count, the competitor drops the kettlebell(s) to the rack position. A visible stop must be apparent before dropping the kettlebell(s) to the backswing and the next clean. The clean must be done in one continuous, uninterrupted motion by dropping the kettlebell(s) from rack position into a swinging motion below the waist and behind the legs and back to rack position. Kettlebell(s) are not allowed to stop in hanging position. Extra swings are not allowed.

For the unilateral event, one hand switch is allowed. The switch must be performed by dropping into a backswing, swinging kettlebell in front of body, switching hands at the top of swing, and cleaning to the second side rack position. The kettlebell must remain in motion throughout the switch.

Note: A clear and visible fixation with an accented stop is the most important technical requirement.

9.2.1 “STOP” command A stop command is issued for the following:

On the drop, resting the kettlebells on the shoulders, or holding the elbows above the shoulders.

Stopping the kettlebell in the hang position. Lowering the kettlebell to the platform. In the unilateral event, if a competitor switches arms without a swing (i.e. passing from

one hand to the other without swinging in between). In the unilateral event, if a competitor attempts a second hand switch.

9.2.2 “NO COUNT” A no count is issued for the following:

Starting the Jerk in a bent knee position, or by directly lowering to the rack position with bent knees and then not straightening legs before commencing the Clean.

Lack of visible, accented stop in fixation or the rack position. Kettlebell movement in fixation. Legs and/or arms are not straight and locked in fixation. Lateral (sideways) pelvic tilt while in fixation. In the unilateral event, touching any body part, the kettlebell or the platform with the free

arm or hand in a way that aids the lift.

At the command “START”, the kettlebell is lifted from below the waist and behind the legs in one continuous, uninterrupted motion to a stop in overhead fixation. Pressing out of the kettlebell is not permitted. At overhead fixation, knees and elbow are locked out, torso, head and working arm are in line, and the kettlebell comes to a complete and visible stop. No lateral (sideways) pelvic tilt or twisting of the torso is permitted in fixation. After the platform judge announces the repetition count, the competitor drops the kettlebell(s) to the backswing (to below the waist and behind the legs) in one continuous, uninterrupted (swinging) motion. The kettlebell must not to stop at the chest (rack position). The kettlebell cannot come into contact with any body parts or the platform at any time. Snatching to the 10 o’clock arm position (or below) is not permitted.

One hand switch is allowed. The switch must be performed from the backswing to a swing in front of body, switching hands at the top, and continuing the snatch on the second side. Extra swings are not permitted. The kettlebell must remain in motion throughout the switch. Hanging/stopping of the kettlebell not permitted.

9.3.1 “STOP” commandA stop command is issued for the following:

Lowering the kettlebell to the shoulder or the chest (rack position) during the second arm.

Stopping the kettlebell in the hang position. Lowering or stopping the kettlebell on the platform. Switching arms without a swing (i.e. passing from one hand to the other without swinging

in between).

9.3.2 “SWITCH ARMS” command A switch arm command is issued for the following:

Lowering the kettlebell to the shoulder and/or rack position while using the first arm

9.3.3 “NO COUNT” A no count is issued for the following:

Performing Snatch in an interrupted motion (i.e. pressing out to fixation). A lack of visible, accented stop in fixation. Kettlebell movement in fixation. Snatching to, or below, the 10 o’clock position. Legs and/or arms are not straight and locked in fixation. Sideways pelvic tilt in fixation. Touching any body part, the kettlebell or the platform with the free arm or hand in a way

that aids the lift.
