These 40 easy hymn accom-paniments are designed to en-hance and heighten the power of hymn singing in worship by adding the brilliance of hand-bells. Each of the hymns are arranged in two settings to be played with the organist or pianist. Setting one encom-passes the full 3-5 octaves with chordal accompaniment, while the second version is for treble clef only in a des-cant/ostinato style – played in octaves. With “easy-to-learn” as their top priority, many of these can be played without a bell table.

This Advent setting is in-tended to reflect the wonder and mystery of the birth of Jesus. Conflict surrounded him from the moment of his birth, and this arrangement attempts to convey that turmoil through the use of dissonance. Care should be taken that the melody is heard above all other notes, and a smooth, le-gato line should be used for the entire piece.

This Hal Hopson classic is ap-propriate for services where “love” is the theme and is es-pecially useful for weddings. The text on love is welcome at any time of year. The fa-miliar words are a paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 13 and the haunting tune is based on the traditional English mel-ody, O WALY WALY. This composition comes from the French Canadian com-poser, André Gagnon, known for his fusion of classic and contemporary styles, and is set here by Manami Takada, our newest arranger from Kanaga-waken Japan. The setting is for 4-5 octave handbells with an option to add a separate 4-5 octave handchime choir or synthesizer. The gentle melody creates an emotion-ally appealing musical offering and this expressive, straight-forward setting is sure to find its way into many worship and concert programs.
