After This Manner ...

WHY? - HOW? - WHEN? TO PRAY

We are constantly told about the need to pray, or told we should have a 'good prayer life'. What does that mean? How should believers pray?

The best way to learn how to pray is to go to the Master Himself.

The reason we pray? Prayer WORKS!

James 5:16 Confess [your] faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

WHY - HOW - WHEN TO PRAYFervent - (energéō) ; to be active, efficient:--do, (be) effectual, be mighty in, work (effectually in). To be operative, put forth power, to aid one, to effect

Since James is referring to people here it is safe to say that prayer helps us to effect people, and change situations.

So why do we emphasize prayer daily?

Ephesians 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

PRAYER MODELThis prayer model is based on Scriptures. As you quote the Scriptures daily, something wonderful is going to happen to YOU, as well!

Ephesians 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

Q: What made Moses such a great prophet and leader?

A: He had a relationship with God through prayer, (communication).

PRAYER IS COMMUNICATIONDeuteronomy 34:10 And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face,

Many problems in life are about people. Many misunderstandings can be erased through communication.

Many spiritual issues are due to a lack of prayer, (communication).

1) OUR FATHER WHO IS IN HEAVEN

In the first part of the prayer we address God as Our Father. We give Him praise and worship. When we lift Him up He draws near to us.

He is our Father. We are His children. This changes everything

Psalms 68:5 A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, [is] God in his holy habitation.

Isaiah 64:8 But now, O LORD, thou [art] our father; we [are] the clay, and thou our potter; and we all [are] the work of thy hand.

OUR FATHERMatthew 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Romans 8:14-17 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and jointheirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with [him], that we may be also glorified together.

OUR FATHER

Romans 9:26 And it shall come to pass, [that] in the place where it was said unto them, Ye [are] not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.

I John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

EVERY GOOD GIFT AND EVERY PERFECT GIFT IS FROM ABOVE, AND COMETH DOWN FROM THE FATHER OF LIGHTS, WITH WHOM IS NO VARIABLENESS, NEITHER SHADOW OF TURNING.
