President Atta Mills, as the president of the great country of Ghana, was aman who always got the attention of the Afrikan Post—and sometimes publicationswere temporarily halted in order to accommodate his visits and ensure that we couldget the story in the paper, in order to share his events with our legions of readers. Statement by President Obama on the Death of President

John Evans Atta Mills of Ghana

Office of The Press SecretaryThe White House

July 24, 2012

It was with great regret that I learned of the passing of President John Evans Atta Mills of Ghana. Iwill always remember my trip to Ghana in 2009, and the hospitality that President Mills and the peo-ple of Ghana showed to me, Michelle, Malia, Sasha and our entire delegation. I was also pleased tohost President Mills in the Oval Office earlier this year. President Mills tirelessly worked to improvethe lives of the Ghanaian people. He helped promote economic growth in Ghana in the midst of chal-lenging global circumstances and strengthened Ghana’s strong tradition of democracy. Under his lead-ership, the United States and Ghana deepened our partnership in the promotion of good governanceand economic development. He was also a strong advocate for human rights and for the fair treatmentof all Ghanaians. On behalf of the American people, I would like to offer my deepest condolences tothe people of Ghana, and reaffirm the deep and enduring bonds between our democracies thatPresident Mills helped to strengthen.

Mills Death: NDC, NPP In Battle Over Textile Prints

Even though traders have been among the large groups of Ghanaians wailing and mourn-ing President Mills since his death was announced last week Tuesday, the mourning hasalso not stopped them from making money from his death.

Traders of African print textiles in Accra admitted that sales have been good since thepresident's death. They attributed the situation to the tagging of some print designs topolitical parties.

One trader, Christiana Dansoaa, said the ‘se asa’ (It is finished!) cloth has been patronizedmassively and is currently in short supply at the Makola market. She said the cloth whichused to be sold at GHC15 is now selling not less than GHC 36.

Another trader Serwaa Agyeman said she brought 600 yards of the cloth just this weekand was able to sell it within a few days.

Some government officials like the Director of Communications Koku Anhyidoho wasseen in a sorrowful mood wearing the cloth.

Asked why that textile print ‘se asa’ was chosen by the NDC for the funeral, the NationalWomen Organizer Anita Desooso responded by saying, “It is finished.”

She said those who consistently attacked the person of President Mills cannot do it againbecause he is gone and will never return. She attacked the NPP of hounding the presidentto his death; therefore the name of the cloth is a message to them.

However, in a quick rebuttal, a member of the NPP communication team, Adomako Berfidisclosed that the NPP has equally chosen a textile cloth named ‘Aboa bo beka woa, naefri wo ntoma mu’, to wit, the enemy is within; adding that the answer to the insinuationby the NDC lies in their own party.

He asked them to do an introspection to identify those behind the presidents’ death andstop accusing them wrongly.

Serwaa Agyeman confirmed speculations the NPP was going to use the ATL design,‘Aboa bi beka woa, efri wo ntoma mu’, to mourn the late president.

According to her, though it’s been off the market for a while, they are making arrange-ments to increase supply.

Traffic Congestion – InhibitsCommercial Activities

We are extremely worried by certain happen-ings within the country, especially in Freetown, but for whose efficiency and consistency thecountry would have been in a status far betterthan it currently is.

We are worried by the stiff traffic congestionthat has married every four corners ofFreetown, the capital city, where things aregenerally expected to move faster for thedevelopment of the entire country.

As microcosm of the country, the public wouldagree with us that if the head of a serpentremained static, the tail or its entire body can-not possibly move. For many people, the trafficcongestion is a mere occurrence that does notsoil any negative impact on our growth, butthey are wrong. The traffic congestion is con-

tributing to the slow movement of vehi-cles and of course the vehicles are notmoved by miracles, but by people. Suchpeople do not always travel alone – theydo so with commuters and goods. This issomething we don’t need to take forgranted. Within the slow pace of oureconomy, the masses are robbed of theirmeager sums by other masses, becausethey want to reach destinations at a fasterpace with time. Sadly enough, goods areoften left in the mighty traffic. Theamount of sum requested by bike “okada”riders for short distances is unreasonable. It is unfortunate because it does notreflect on our tax system, which shouldhave helped develop our revenue.

Development that does not begin at thegrassroots level is not one to brag about. We are not trying to curb the means ofsurvival of others, but at any point in life,it is wise to face reality, if we are reallyserious with ourselves. The governmentneeds to give urgent attention to improv-ing our road networks not forgettingokada lanes and put in strict measures toreplace the exorbitant amounts levied onhelpless passengers.

they took in 2009 because of political crisis inMadagascar.

Madagascar has been in political crisis sinceDecember 2008 following a stalemate between for-mer President Marc Ravalomanana and the transi-tional president Andry Rajoelina.

Rajoelina, mayor of Antananarivo from December2007 to March 2009 led a massive protest againstRavalomanana from 2002 to March 2009.

Ravalomanana gave up his power to a militarydirectorate on March 17, 2009, but few hours later, the military transferred the presidency to Rajoelina.Rajoelina officially took power on March 21, 2009,while Ravalomanana fled out in exile in SouthAfrica few days later.

Alcohol And Blood Pressure

WHEN IT comes to alcohol and bloodpressure, too much alcohol is not agood thing. Experts recommend thatmen limit their alcohol intake to twodrinks each day and to one drink eachday.

It does not take much alcohol to inter-fere with your blood pressure, so it iscritical that you know the facts, espe-cially if you have high blood pressurealready, or are at risk for it.

What Constitutes a “Drink”?

A lot of bars and restaurants actuallyserve cocktails in portions much largerthan what is considered to be a“drink”. When you are having a beer,a single serving is just 12 ounces. When you are having a glass of wine,a single serving is just five ounces. When you are having an 80-proof dis-tilled spirit, a single serving is 1.5ounces. An example of an 80-proofdistilled spirit would be somethinglike a rum and coke.

How Does Alcohol Impact My BloodPressure?

If someone is a heavy drinker and theytake their alcohol intake back to amore moderate level, they can lowertheir top number (systolic blood pres-sure number) by an average of two tofour millimeters of mercury. For

example, if their top number was140, they can bring it down to 136.In this same scenario, they canbring their bottom number (dias-tolic blood pressure number) downby an average of one to two mil-limeters of mercury.

Why You Should be Concerned

The United Nations data showed 1in 3 adults worldwide has Highblood pressure – the cause ofaround half of all deaths fromstroke and heart disease – and thecondition affects almost half theadult population in some countriesin Africa. Stroke and heart attackare possible complications of highblood pressure, especially when itgoes uncontrolled. Heart failure, vision problems and aneurysm arealso possible.

A big problem with high bloodpressure is that the majority of peo-ple with it have no idea that theyhave it. This is because it oftencauses no symptoms, even when itapproaches dangerously high lev-els. When symptoms do occur, theyare often vague and not incrediblyalarming, such as some dizzinessand dull headaches.

Reducing Salt'Would Cut Cancer'Cutting back on salty foods such as bacon, bread andbreakfast cereals may reduce people's risk of develop-ing stomach cancer, according to the World CancerResearch Fund (WCRF).

It wants people to eat less salt and for the content offood to be labelled more clearly. In the UK, the WCRFsaid one-in-seven stomach cancers would be preventedif people kept to daily guidelines.

Cancer Research UK said this figure could be evenhigher.Too much salt is bad for blood pressure and can leadto heart disease and stroke, but it can also cause can-cer.

The recommended daily limit is 6g, about a level tea-spoonful, but the World Cancer Research Fund saidpeople were eating 8.6g a day.

Simple Exercises To Promote HealthyNeck Muscles And Ligaments

If you experience intermittent neckpain and/or stiffness, you may benefitfrom a simple routine of stretchingand strengthening the dozens of skele-tal muscles and ligaments that lineyour neck.

The most important requirement forhealthy ligaments and muscles issteady blood flow to these tissues. And stretching the ligaments and mus-cles that line your neck is the mosteffective way to promote and maintaina rich supply of blood in this region.

What follows are six simple stretchesthat you can perform to help keep themuscles and ligaments in your neckhealthy and less prone to gettinginjured.

1. Forward Flexion

Allow your head to fall forward sothat your chin approaches the top ofyour chest.

Once you feel a stretch or pull in themuscles that line the back of yourneck or once the joints of your neckwon't allow you to bend forward anyfurther, whichever comes first, holdthis position for as long as is comfort-able, up to 30 seconds.

2. Backward Extension

Allow your head to bend backwardsso that you can look at the ceiling or

sky.Once you feel a stretch or pull onthe front side of your neck or oncethe joints of your neck won't allowyou to go back any further, whichever comes first, hold thisposition for as long as is comfort-able, up to 30 seconds.

3. Rotation to RightWith your shoulders facing for-ward, turn your head to your right.

Once you feel a stretch or pull any-where in your neck or once thejoints of your neck won't allow youto rotate any further, whichevercomes first, hold this position for aslong as is comfortable, up to 30seconds.

4. Rotation to Left

Repeat the same steps describedabove, but with your head turningto your left.

5. Lateral Flexion to Right

With your shoulders facing for-ward, allow your head to falltoward your right shoulder so thatyour right ear approaches the top ofyour right shoulder.

Once you feel a stretch or pullalong the left side of your neck orwhen your neck won't allow any

further lateral flexion, hold thisposition for as long as is comfort-able, up to 30 seconds.Be sure that your left and rightshoulders remain level; for somepeople, there's a natural tendencyto bring the right or left shouldersup while doing this stretch.

6. Lateral Flexion to Left

Repeat the same steps describedabove, but with your head fallingtoward your left shoulder.Remember to keep both shoulderslevel; it's your head that shouldbend down to approach yourshoulder, not your shoulder that'sraised to approach your head.

To strengthen your neck muscles, use your hands to resist your headas you try to move it in the sixdirections described above.

For example, to strengthen themuscles that line the front of yourneck, place both of your palmsagainst your forehead and gentlypush your head against your palms, trying to take your chin down tomeet your chest. Maintain thisresistance for as long as is com-fortable, or up to 10 seconds.Repeat for all directions.

Less Time Sitting'Extends Life'

Limiting the time we spend sitting to just three hours aday could add an extra two years to our life expectancy, scientists calculate.

Similarly, if we cut daily TV viewing down to two hourswe could add on 1.4 years, they say in a report for theonline journal BMJ Open.

But experts say the US estimates, which are based on fiveseparate population studies, are too unreliable to predictpersonal risk. Plus the targets are unfeasible.

Prof David Spiegelhalter, an expert in risk calculations atthe University of Cambridge, said: "This is a study ofpopulations, and does not tell you personally what theeffect of getting off the sofa might be.

"It seems plausible that if future generations movedaround a bit more, then they might live longer on average.

"But very few of us currently spend less than three hourssitting each day, and so this seems a very optimistic tar-get."

The overwhelming approval of aProvisional Constitution for Somaliaby the representative body convenedfor that purpose - a key step towardending the Horn of Africa country'slong transition to stable governance -was hailed today by United Nationsofficials.

"The Secretary-General welcomes theadoption," a spokesperson forSecretary-General Ban Ki-moon toldreporters at UN Headquarters in NewYork today. After decades of warfare, Somalia hasbeen undergoing a peace and nationalreconciliation process, with the coun-try's Transitional Federal Institutionscurrently implementing the so-calledRoadmap for the End of Transition inSomalia, devised in September lastyear, that spells out priority measuresto be carried out before the currenttransitional governing arrangementsend in 20 days' time. The ProvisionalConstitution was a key part of theprocess - it will provide a legal frame-work governing the workings of thenew Somali Federal Institutions after20 August.

"The Constituent Assembly embodiedthe diversity of Somali society aroundthe traditional clan system, andensured inclusiveness by bringingtogether elders, religious leaders, women, youth, business people, intel-lectuals and the Diaspora," Mr.Mahiga said. The voting took place

despite suicide attacks on the NCA'smeeting venue earlier this morning, which resulted in the deaths of severalpeople. According to media reports, twosuicide bombers blew themselves up atthe gates of the venue, and the attemptfollows a series of explosions in the cap-ital, including roadside bombs andgrenade attacks.

Mr. Mahiga noted that the Somali dele-gates "were not deterred" by the suicidebombings, which was foiled by securitypersonnel consisting of Somali forcesand the UN-backed African UnionMission in Somalia (AMISOM). "I paytribute to the Somali and AMISOM secu-rity personnel who ensured the safety ofthe delegates and the process," he said.In his remarks to reporters, Mr. Ban'sspokesperson said the UN chief con-demned the suicide attacks, noting that"terrorism must not be allowed to rollback the important gains that have beenmade so far."

Until last year, most of Mogadishu, was,for several years, riven by a fluid front-line dividing the two sides - fightersbelonging to the Al Shabaab militantgroup and troops belonging to theSomalia Government, with the latter sup-ported by AMISOM.

Since the Al Shabaab withdrawal fromthe capital in August last year, the front-lines have been pushed back to the city'ssurrounding area. However, the use ofroadside bombs, grenades and suicidebombers still take place. In addition,Government forces have been on anoffensive against the Al Shabaab, whichstill controls parts of Somalia, primarilyin its south-central regions. While prais-ing the Somali delegates for the votetoday, both the Secretary-General and hisenvoy to Somalia emphasized that adop-tion of the Provisional Constitution is notthe end of the process.

"It is an important step towards the cre-ation of a better future for all Somalis,"Mr. Ban's spokesperson said. "TheSecretary-General encourages all stake-holders to undertake the last steps to endthe transition peacefully, united, and withthe best interest of the Somali people inmind."

"The constitution must now be imple-mented to become a living reality," Mr.Mahiga said. "For that to happen, thefinal steps to ending the transition mustbe taken including selecting a representa-tive Parliament, and electing a Speaker, the President, and appointing an execu-tive government."

Ghana Bamboo Bikes Initiative was announcedas one of eleven winners today at the 2012World Business and Development Awards(WBDA) for our efforts to improve living stan-dards in some of the world’s most disadvan-taged communities. Ghana Bamboo BikesInitiative was recognized at a ceremony con-cluding the Business Action for SustainableDevelopment Business Day taking place duringthe UN Conference on Sustainable Development(Rio+20), where world leaders along with thou-sands of participants from governments, the pri-vate sector, NGOs and other groups, convened. The Awards recognize innovative business mod-els that deliver both commercial success andhelp improve social, economic or environmentalconditions—otherwise known as inclusive busi-ness models. The Ghana Bamboo BikesInitiative takes advantage of the abundant bam-boo found in Ghana to design, develop, andmarket bamboo bikes and frames and relatedproducts and services. The initiative also offersbasic course and practical lessons on buildingbamboo bikes and frames as a way of encourag-ing entrepreneurship and providing sustainablelivelihood job skills.

A panel composed of nine independent judgesselected winning initiatives, under the categoriesof small- and medium-sized enterprise and largeorganizations. The 2012 Awards attracted 115applications from 38 countries showcasing avariety of inclusive business endeavours under-taken by associations, non-governmental organi-zations and individual companies.

“I am truly honoured and inspired to receivethis award” said Bernice Dapaah CEO of GhanaBamboo Bikes Initiative. “Sustainable and inno-vative social enterprises are measured beyondwhat they deliver to the bottom line-they arealso measured by the impact they have on theircommunities. Ghanaian Political Party (PPP) Launches Washington, DC Metro Chapter

Story By Frederick Nnoma-AddisonMonday July 23, 2012

The Presidential Candidate of Ghana’sProgressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. PapaKwesi Nduom yesterday launched theWashington, DC Metro Chapter of his partyduring a town hall and book signing event heldoutside Washington, DC in Arlington, Virginia. The forum was attended by party members andfriends. Addressing the attendees, Dr. Nduompresented his party’s agenda and pitched it asthe better alternative to both the incumbentNational Democratic Congress (NDC) and thelead opposition party, New Patriotic Party(NPP). After the event Dr. Nduom signed andpresented copies of his new book, “Where IStand: A collection of Speeches and NewspaperArticles” to the attendees.

In an interview with him earlier this year inJanuary; Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom raised the barfor democracy in Ghana by challengingGhanaians to “aspire for an American orEuropean standard of democracy instead of anAfrican standard.” The influential statesman, politician & entrepreneur who has a very com-petitive resume from the United said that heexpects more from Ghanaians and will not settlefor mediocrity even as the nation prepares forpresidential and parliamentary elections inDecember this year. “This year’s elections willbe keenly contested; it will set new standards, test our democratic resolve and be anotherdefining moment in our history, and I urge allGhanaians to demand high standards from gov-ernment officials and each other…I don’t haveto organize a political party at this time but Ichose to do so because it has merits for Ghanaand our democratic process. Despite my com-mitments to my expansive business enterprises Iwill still devote time and resources to help pro-mote our multi party democracy and ournation.”

As the 2006 Minister of State and primary tech-nical expert who helped Ghana secure andappropriate a $547 million grant from theMillennium Challenge Corporation in theUnited States, he stressed the importance ofGhana-U.S. relations and said that both Ghanaand the United States need to review their bilat-eral relations and determine the direction of the

new phase, in view of new players like China. “Our for-mal, intergovernmental relationship needs greater under-standing. I think that America must redefine its friend-ship with Ghana since Ghana is of strategic importanceto the United States…On an individual basis U.S.-Ghana relations is thriving, Ghanaians are as much apart of American society as are Americans. The relationsthat individuals have in either country must end upopening doors for individuals and communities both inAmerica and Ghana, like it did for me personally when Ifirst came to the United States on an American FieldService (AFS) year-long scholarship in the 70’s, prior tomy secondary school education in Ghana.”

Papa Kwesi Nduom was born in Elmina, Central Regionof Ghana. He attended St. Augustine’s College (sec-ondary school) in Ghana and returned to the UnitedStates for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics(1975), a Master’s degree in Management (1977) and aPh.D (Service Delivery Systems) in 1982, all from theUniversity of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He started work asa life insurance underwriter with the North WesternMutual Life Insurance Company between 1975 and1978. The following year he worked with Blue CrossBlue Shield of Wisconsin. In 1979, he joined theMilwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District as a Budgetand Management Analyst and then joined Deloitte andTouche as an associate consultant in 1981, rising tobecome a partner in the Milwaukee office of the firm by1986 before being transferred to Washington, DC.Nduom eventually returned to Ghana via a consultingassignment with the Ashanti Gold Company. In 1992, hehelped establish Deloitte & Touche, Ghana and conse-quently in West Africa and retired as the board chairmanfor the Africa region.

During President Kufuor’s administration (2001-2009)Dr. Nduom served as Energy and Public Sector Reformminister between 2001 and 2007 and oversaw Ghana’scontract with Kosmos Energy, a U.S. oil and gas explo-ration firm at the helm of oil drilling in Ghana. In 2008,he was nominated to become the Convention People’sParty’s (CPP) nominee for the presidential election.Asked why he continues to pursue political ambitionswhen he got an insignificant percentage of votes duringthe 2008 presidential elections, he explained that publicservice still remains one of the best platforms to make apositive impact in the lives of millions of people.

Today, through a consortium of private business enter-prises, he provides gainful employment for at least 2000Ghanaians among several other opportunities and con-tinues to be an advocate for a prosperous and develop-ing Ghana, worth living in. “My ultimate goal is to helpestablish an entrepreneurial culture in Ghana, and mycompanies in all 10 regions of the country is the evi-dence.”

After failing to clinch the CPP flag bearership at thebeginning of this year, Dr. Nduom broke away from theparty he had significantly contributed to and help estab-lish, and founded the newest political party in Ghana, the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) to continue makingan impact politically. Nduom is married to Mrs. YvonneNduom, a management specialist and graduate of theCape Coast University in Ghana and the University ofWisconsin. Together they have four children.

The United Nations July 26, 2012 calledfor immediate action to tackle Mali's cur-rent humanitarian crisis which is driven byfood insecurity, malnutrition, populationdisplacement and widespread insecurity.

"The humanitarian situation is deteriorat-ing rapidly because of the inadequacy ofthe response. The situation in Mali is des-perate, but not hopeless," stressed theDirector of Operations of the Office for theCoordination of Humanitarian Affairs(OCHA), John Ging.

"There needs to be a paradigm shift in theway the humanitarian response is funded. We can avoid a disaster, but only if theopportunities for a quick scaling up of theresponse are not missed," he added.

In January, fighting between Governmentforces and Tuareg rebels resumed in north-ern Mali. The instability and insecurityresulting from the renewed clashes, as wellas the proliferation of armed groups in theregion, and political instability in the wakeof a coup d'état in March, have uprootedmore than 420,000 people, according toOCHA, with many fleeing to the neigh-bouring countries of Niger, Mauritania andBurkina Faso due to insecurity

These countries, however, are among themost severely affected by the food andnutrition crisis raging across the Sahelregion of West Africa, which has put 18million lives at risk.

During a three-day mission to Mali, Mr.Ging visited displacement camps in Moptiin the north, where he heard first-hand thetraumatic stories of violence againstwomen and children who had fled theirhomes.

In Bamako, the capital, Mr. Ging toldreporters that "there appears to be a mis-conception that without a solution to thesecurity and political crisis in the north ofthe country, little can be done to scale upthe humanitarian response. In fact, 80 percent of the country's humanitarian needsare in the south, where there is relative sta-bility."

While work is being carried out bynational and international organizationsin the northern part of the country, Mr.Ging said the lack of funding is hamper-ing the scaling up of activities in theregion. Currently, only 42 per cent of the$214 million required for the humanitari-an response has been received.

Health, education, water, sanitation andhygiene are the most critically under-funded sectors, Mr. Ging said, addingthat this could quickly lead to the out-break of epidemics like cholera, which isthreatening to spread throughout WestAfrica.

Who Counsels You?

Biography

President John Evans Fifii Atta Mills, born 21 July1944, was the third President of the FourthRepublic of Ghana. He was inaugurated on 7January 2009, after winning the 2008 election. Hewas Vice-President from 1997 to 2001 underPresident Jerry John Rawlings, and stood unsuc-cessfully in the 2000 and 2004 presidential elec-tions as the candidate of the National DemocraticCongress (NDC).

The 68-year-old died a few hours after being takenill at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

Early life, education and academic career

Mills was a Fanti from Ekumfi Otuam in theCentral Region of Ghana. He was born in Tarkwaon 21 July 1944, located in the Western Region ofGhana. He was educated at Achimota School, where he completed the Advanced-Level Certificatein 1963, and the University of Ghana, Legon, where he received "Black man of the month" sever-al times.

In 1968, Mills studied at the London School ofEconomics and Political Science, and received aPhD at the School of Oriental and African Studiesat the University of London. Thus began the jour-ney of the next twenty years of Mills' life, whichwas largely spent with spells both in Ghana andinternationally as an academic. Mills earned a Ph.Din Law from London University's School ofOriental and African Studies(SOAS) after complet-ing his doctoral thesis in the area of taxation andeconomic development.

Personal Life

He was married to Ernestina Naadu Mills, an edu-cator and had a son, Sam Kofi Atta Mills, withRuby Addo.He was a good friend to Prophet T.B. Joshua of TheSynagogue, Church Of All Nations in Lagos,Nigeria and regularly visited his church. He saidfollowing his inauguration that T.B. Joshua hadprophesied to him there would be three elections, the results would be released in January, and hewould emerge victorious.

Career as a Lecturer

Mills' first formal teaching assignment was as a lec-turer at the Faculty of Law at the University ofGhana Legon. He spent close to twenty five yearsteaching at Legon and other institutions of higherlearning, and rose in position from lecturer to sen-ior lecturer to associate professor, and served onnumerous boards and committees.Additionally, he traveled worldwide as a visitinglecturer and professor at educational institutionssuch as the LSE, and presented research papers at

My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke: myfather chastised you with

whips, but I will chastise you with scor-pions" (1 Kings 12:14). The precedingwords were spoken by Rehoboam, son ofSolomon, when he ascended the throneafter the death of his father. Rehoboamspoke these words to the children ofIsrael when they asked him to lessentheir tax burden. His father’s seasonedand god-fearing advisors counseled himregarding his response, but Rehoboamignored their advice and foolishly tookthat of his young peers. Consequently,Rehoboam was overthrown by force, los-ing a considerable portion of his king-dom. He lost 10 of the 12 tribes, rulingonly over the tribes of Judah andBenjamin.

Further down the road in history,King Zedekiah, ruler of Judah, needed tohear from the prophets about what Godhad in store for his kingdom. There wasone prophet whose prophecies were notto his liking, while there were otherprophets who told him what he preferredto hear. Enter the prophet Hananiah.Hananiah prophesied to the king and tothe hearing of Jeremiah and all the priestsand people that within two years, Godwas going to defeat the king of Babylonon behalf of Zedekiah. But God, know-ing that He had not spoken through thisfalse prophet, sent His true prophetJeremiah to Hananiah saying, “Listennow, Hananiah, the LORD has not sentyou, and you have made this people trustin a lie. Therefore thus says the LORD,‘Behold, I am about to remove you fromthe face of the earth. This year you aregoing to die, because you have counseledrebellion against the LORD.’” SoHananiah the prophet died in the sameyear in the seventh month (Jeremiah28:15-17).

Like Rehoboam, we stand tolose what we cannot afford when we donot take the right counsel. There is aright counsel and there is an erroneousone. The right one will obviously fareyou well, while the wrong one—well—could cost you too much, such as yourwealth, health, family, success and right-ful future. The Kingdom of Israel was

divided as a result of one man’s pursuit ofthe wrong counsel. And in the case ofHananiah, one who falsely claims to hearfrom and speak for God—well—God dealtwith him in the way that only God could. Not only did He take away Hananiah’svoice, but He also took his life. The truth, the power and the purity of God’s counselis just that and one must not assume topossess it falsely. We ought to be wise notto become like Rehoboam and at the sametime, we have to be careful not to fall forthe likes of Hananiah. So the question is:who counsels you?

While we are all individuals withour own minds and will, we are highlysusceptible to the influential words of oth-ers, particularly those whom we trust, respect and admire, people to whom weare partial. When we need direction in anarea of our lives, we often automaticallyconsult with these people, hoping toreceive wise and reasonable words thatwill direct us on our path. And while wemight receive those words, we have to becareful to ponder whether or not we wentabout seeking such advice the right wayand from the right place.

Many of us are familiar with thefollowing declaration about the birth ofChrist in Isaiah 9:6, “For unto us a child isborn, unto us a son is given; and the gov-ernment shall be upon his shoulder: andhis name shall be called Wonderful,Counselor, The Mighty God, TheEverlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”We recount these words around Christmastime in celebration and affirmation ofChrist’s birth, but the fact is that while wedo acknowledge Christ as being wonder-ful, a mighty God, an everlasting fatherand the Prince of Peace, we do not seri-ously consider Him as the Counselor thatHe is. Rather, we tend to forget about thatrole and attribute.

I believe that most of us don’thabitually and instantly seek God’s coun-sel in our life’s decisions. Take a momentand honestly ask yourself if you alwaysseek His counsel first when you needadvice or direction or do you habituallyand perhaps naturally consider a parent, sibling, friend or mentor? I am not sug-gesting that seeking advice from others iswrong, but what I am suggesting is thatwe should always seek His counsel first inany and everything. He is not only oursavior, but also, He is our counselor and assuch, part of His role is to guide ustowards the right path, so that we willarrive at the place that He has planned forus and accomplish the goals that Heknows we can accomplish. For after all, itis this same God who states in Jeremiah29:11-13 that, “For I know the plans Ihave for you, plans to prosper you and notto harm you, plans to give you hope and afuture. Then you will call on me and come

and pray to me, and I will listen to you. Youwill seek me and find me when you seek mewith all your heart”. Clearly, what God hasplanned for us and what He is able to do forus cannot be surpassed by any other inten-tion. Thus, it is only wise to perceive andseek Him as our counselor.

Seeking God’s counsel occurs intwo main ways, first, going to Him in prayerabout a particular issue on which we need tomake a decision. Here, we pray to Him todirect our path, to tell us what to do. Is thatman/woman I want to marry the right one forme? Will he/she be able to endure the toughtimes that will come our way? Will I be ableto love him/her unconditionally and continueto sacrifice for him/her? Is the love I feel forthis person the true love required to weatherthe storms of sicknesses and financial hard-ships? Will I be able to blend in well withhis/her family and forge a united and happyextended family?

It is God who we have to go to inorder to get the most honest and spirituallyinsightful answers. Your parents or friendsmight do their best to counsel you when youapproach them with these concerns and ques-tions, but it is Christ, seeing and knowing alland particularly knowing what the futureholds, who can properly counsel you in suchinstances. Once, a parent told his daughterwho wanted to marry a particular young manthat marriage is about luck and he could nottell her whether or not to marry the youngman. For this parent, who had alreadydivorced three times, he had not been luckyat love or marriage. One might think a par-ent would have better advice for his off-spring, but this is what this one parentoffered to his daughter. Now is that the kindof counsel you need? But it is the kind youmight get if you do not seek guidance fromthe omniscient Father of Heaven and EarthHimself, the very one who established mar-riage.

Good counsel from God can be got-ten also from reading His word. When weread the Bible, we are taught lessons such asthe story of “The Prodigal Son,” lessonsabout how we should not have the love ofmoney, how we should obey and honor ourparents and not provoke our children. We aretaught that we should be committed to thethings of God and store our treasure inHeaven and not on Earth. We are taught topay our tithes and offering and to love ourneighbors as ourselves. We are taught not tobe unequally yoked with unbelievers and torefrain from ungodly speech. The word ofGod counsels us and guides us daily. Do weaccept this counsel or do we rather listen andadhere to the fashions and current culturaldictates of a demoralizing world? It is ourdecision to make. It is up to us to determinewho will be our counselor.

Additionally, seeking counsel fromGod includes listening to the words and

direction of your pastor. A truly calledpastor is God’s appointed servant of achurch and he bears both the right andresponsibility to teach and guide you inthe things of the Lord. He is the shepherdwhile you are the sheep. As a churchmember, you are not only to seek hiscounsel, but also, you are to submit your-self to his leadership and instruction asdirected by the word of God. However, more and more, it appears Christians seekthe teachings and guidance of leaders fromother ministries or independent prophetsand preachers instead of their own andthen run the risk of embracing, repeatingand practicing faulty doctrine and advice. So you invite the counsel of Hananiah andwhat’s worse, you do not only keep thiserroneous counsel to yourself to ruin notonly your life, but bring it to your congre-gation and there spread such thoughts, causing confusion and threatening the sta-bility of a ministry. All in all, the point isthat if you do not desire and respect thecounsel of your own pastor, then it is timefor you to move on to another churchwhere you can easily submit to the leader-ship. Spiritually, it is the sound thing todo so that you will not be found wantingin a church and under leadership in whichyou no longer have confidence. But youmust be careful to be certain that you aremaking the right decision, only after seek-ing counsel from the Lord Himself.

When all is said and done, itremains that on a daily basis, you willrequire guidance and direction for yourpersonal life, your family, your career andso on. Where do you begin and where doyou end? What will you decide and towhose counsel will you submit? Beforeyou decide, remember the Lord is not onlyyour savior but also your Counselor andbest of all, He has “plans to prosper youand not to harm you, plans to give youhope and a future” Jeremiah 29:11.

He spent close to twenty five yearsteaching at Legon and other institutions of higherlearning, and rose in position from lecturer to sen-ior lecturer to associate professor, and served onnumerous boards and committees.Additionally, he traveled worldwide as a visitinglecturer and professor at educational institutionssuch as the LSE, and presented research papers at

symposiums and conferences. In 1971, he wasselected for the Fulbright Scholar program atStanford Law School in the United States OfAmerica.

At the age of 27, he was awarded his PhD aftersuccessfully defending his doctoral thesis inthe area of taxation and economic develop-ment. He returned to Ghana that year, becom-ing a Lecturer in the Faculty of Law at theUniversity of Ghana. He became a visitingprofessor of Temple Law School (Philadelphia,USA), with two stints from 1978 to 1979, and1986 to 1987, and was a visiting professor atLeiden University (Holland) from 1985 to1986. During this period, he authored severalpublications relating to taxation during the1970s & 1980s.

Outside of his academic pursuits, ProfessorMills was the Acting Commissioner of Ghana'sInternal Revenue Service from 1986 to 1993,and the substantive Commissioner from 1993to 1996.By 1992, he had become an AssociateProfessor of Law at the University of Ghana.Mills was also a Fulbright scholar at StanfordLaw School.

Vice-President of Ghana

For the inaugural Presidential Elections in1992, the National Convention Party (NCP)had formed an alliance with the NationalDemocratic Congress (NDC). FormerProvisional National Defence Council (PNDC)Chairman, and leader of Ghana, Flight-Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings chose the NCPleader, Kow Nkensen Arkaah, as his running-mate for Vice-President. Having been electedin the 1992 elections, Arkaah served between1992–1996.

However, on 29 January 1996, the NCP brokewith the NDC, merging with the People'sConvention Party (PCP) to form a rebirth ofthe Convention People's Party (the formerlyoutlawed political party of Ghana's firstPresident, Kwame Nkrumah). Thus, in a bittersplit, Arkaah would stand as candidate for thereborn CPP in the 1996 Presidential Electionsagainst Rawlings. Rawlings selected Mills forthe vacated Vice-Presidency in his bid for re-election to a second term in Ghana's 1996Presidential Election. Rawlings was re-electedto his second term in office, and Mills becameVice-President of Ghana between 1996 to2000.

Seeking the Highest Office in Ghana

In 2000, Mills became the NDC's candidate forthe 2000 Presidential elections after Rawlingshad served his constitutionally mandated termsas president. At the time, and after essentially

two decades of PNDC/NDC rule, the NDC'swar chest for the upcoming elections wascertainly much stronger than that of theNPP. The result would clearly between theNDC's popularity with the people, and Vice-President Mills' track-record alongsidePresident Rawlings, and the veteran politi-cal experience that the NPP candidate wouldbring to the campaign. The main rival forVice-President Mills' own bid for thePresidency was a veteran politician, JohnAgyekum Kufuor, who was running as thecandidate for the opposition New PatrioticParty (NPP).

Ghana's presidential elections in the year2000 went into two rounds: In the firstround, held on 7 December 2000, Millsgained 44.8% of the vote, Kufuor won thefirst round with 48.4%. This result forcedthe elections into a two-party run-off voteon 28 December 2000, where Kufuordefeated Vice-President Mills with a resultof 56.9% of the vote. The NPP won theelection, and Kufuor was sworn in asPresident of Ghana on 7 January 2001.

In December 2002, John Atta Mills waselected by his party to be its flag bearer andlead them into the 2004 elections. In 2002, former Vice-President Mills wasagain selected as the candidate of theNational Democratic Congress for theupcoming presidential elections in 2004. Hewas however defeated again by PresidentKufuor, who won by a margin of 52.45%.

On 21 December 2006, former Vice-President Mills became the NDC's candidatefor the 2008 presidential elections, winninghis party's ticket by an 81.4% result. Earlypolls showed that Mills was the favourite, but in another poll taken just months beforethe first-round voting, Nana Akufo-Addoemerged as the favourite. Election cam-paigning was strong, particularly withadvertising, which was clearly much heavierwith the NPP candidate.

The first round of voting occurred on 7December 2008. In a very close resultamongst all parties, Nana Akufo-Addo'sNPP finished with 49.13% of the vote, closeto the outright margin required to win in thefirst round, while Mills' NDC finished with47.92%. The other parties garnered 2.37%of the votes.

The result forced a second-round of votingbetween NPP and NDC on 28 December2008. The result was a slim margin held byMills, but due to problems with the distribu-tion of ballots, the Tain constituency, locat-ed in the Brong-Ahafo Region, was forced

to re-run its voting on 2 January 2009. Thevoting in the Tain constituency led to a land-slide victory to the NDC.

For several days, the Electoral Commission ofGhana did not call the result to the NDC, andthe NPP filed a lawsuit, claiming that "theatmosphere in the rural district was not con-ducive to a free and fair election". Eventually, the NPP bowed to the inevitable, and on themorning of 3 January 2009, the election resultwas finally announced. Former Vice-PresidentJohn Atta-Mills, who had failed to win in twoprevious campaigns, made history by winningthe 2008 presidential election, becoming thethird President of the 4th Republic Of Ghana.

Publications

Mills produced several publications during hislife, including:Taxation of Periodical or Deferred Paymentsarising from the Sale of Fixed Capital (1974).

Ghana's new investment code : an appraisal(1993) In: University of Ghana Law Journal,1993, vol. 18, p. 1–29He also held examiner positions with finance-related institutions in Ghana, including theInstitute of Chartered Accountants, Institute ofBankers, and Ghana Tax Review Commission.

Contribution to Sports

He contributed to the Ghana HockeyAssociation, National Sports Council ofGhana, and Accra Hearts of Oak SportingClub. He enjoyed hockey and swimming, andonce played for the national hockey team (heremained a member of the Veterans HockeyTeam until his death).

Presidency

On 21 December 2006, Mills was overwhelm-ingly elected by the NDC as its candidate forthe 2008 presidential election with a majorityof 81.4% (1,362 votes), far ahead of his oppo-nents, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Alhaji MahamaIddrisu, and Eddie Annan. In 2008, he waselected president of Ghana, after a keenly con-tested three round election. He died on 24 July2012 while still in office.

Nairobipolice boss Anthony Kibuchi said the post-mortem will be carried out at the scene.Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials alsovisited her home. Fonseca had clashedwith some of her domestic workers aftershe sacked them over what she haddescribed as "insubordination".

However, the workers maintained theywere sacked because they refused to dis-own a sexual harassment complaint (OBNo.34 of April 23, 2012) they filed with

diplomatic police at Gigiri against Fonseca'spredecessor Ambassador Gerardo CarilloSilva. Six workers were fired onWednesday. Several meetings between theworkers' lawyer Ngure Mbugua, Fonsecaand officials from the Foreign Affairs min-istry ended in a stalemate.

Sources said Foreign Affairs minister SamOngeri had demanded a full briefing fromhis officers on the happenings at theembassy. On Wednesday, Fonseca discon-nected all phones in the embassy except heroffice line, sources said. "She wanted allcalls from outside to go to her first."Fonseca is said to have stayed late in theoffice on Wednesday to oversee the changeof her office door locks. It is not clear if shealso changed the locks at her residence.

According to documents in our possession, the new envoy contracted the services of alocal law firm, Mucheru-Oyatta &Associates, seeking a legal opinion onwhether the embassy can terminate theservices of the said staff. In her submissionto the lawyers, Fonseca said she had lostconfidence in the staff members whom shesaid disregarded her express instructions. She said she was apprehensive that hersecurity and well being were under threat.

In the lawyers' documents, it is indicatedthat Fonseca reported for duty as the newCharge d'Affaires to replace a Mr Dwighton Monday July 16, 2012. A search on theembassy's website indicates that a man bythe name Dwight Asdrubal Sagaray C is theembassy's First Secretary. Dwight tookcharge of the embassy after the recall ofAmbassador Gerardo Carillo Silva and wasin charge until the arrival of Fonseca.

The document indicates that on Friday July20, Dwight "came to the residence andcaused a confrontation with M/s Fonsecawhich resulted in Mr. Dwight asking thestaff members to leave the residence withhim." "Despite M/s Fonseca's verbal warn-ing to the staff not to leave with Mr.Dwight, the staff members left the embassyresidence with Mr. Dwight," the lawyerscaptured in their legal opinion to theembassy on the dismissal of the domesticworkers.

The lawyers said Fonseca had lost confi-dence in the staff members "who disregard-ed her express instructions," and were inwere in direct communication with Dwight."M/s Fonseca is apprehensive that her secu-rity and well being are threatened by Mr.Dwight to whom the employees appear tobe loyal," said the lawyers. Fonseca hadrequested the law firm to submit a legalopinion on whether the embassy can termi-nate the services of the domestic staff work-ing at the residence based on the Kenya'semployment laws and specifically theEmployment Act of 2007.

The lawyers in their opinion advised thatthe embassy since the staff at the embassyresidence had stopped performing theirduties and were going against the instruc-tions of Fonseca who was placed inauthority over them by the Venezuela gov-ernment, it was justified they be summari-ly dismissed. The lawyers said theemployees were in breach of their employ-ment contracts. "The fact that they are indirect communication with an officer whohas been removed from authority by theiremployer and to whom they have divulgedand continue to divulge information of thegoings on at the embassy further underpinsthis position," the law firm stated.

The lawyers noted that the domestic staffcould have gotten confused and felt underthreat when faced with the agony of decid-ing whether to follow the orders of Dwightor Fonseca. "This situation was not createdby the employees but by a renegadeemployee of the embassy who had beenplaced in authority over these domesticstaff members," the law firm said. It addedthat if their disobedience of Fonseca'sorders was the only reason for their dis-missal, a court could find that the employ-ees have been victimized and did not dis-obey voluntarily.

"It is crucial therefore that this situation isdealt with having the aforesaid in mindand in these circumstances, it would beprudent not to involve M/s Fonseca in theprocedure of investigating the situationand taking action against the employees sothat the actions by the embassy as regardsthe employees is seen to be objective andnon-confrontational," the law firm advised."Needless to say, Mr. Dwight ought to bedealt with severely by the embassy andmust himself be dismissed from employ-ment if the domestic staff members are tobe dismissed," the firm added.

The Venezuelan chargé d'affairs' murdercould jeopardise Kenya's "good" standingwith South American nations. Only earlythis month, President Kibaki was in Brazilduring the Rio+ 20 Climate conferencewhere he held meetings with members ofthe business community who were explor-ing the possibility of investing in Kenya.

Her death could also cause internationalcondemnation of Kenya since the foreigndiplomats' person and premises are invio-lable under the 1961 Vienna Conventionon Diplomatic Relations. The Conventionalso protects foreign diplomats from arrestby host country law enforcement authori-ties, entry into their premises withoutauthority or inspection of their premises, bags and vehicles.

Politicians To Unite Following Mills'Death - T.B Joshua

Ghana: Jostling for Vice President Begins

A Nigerian religious leader, Prophet T. BJoshua, has predicted that the death of PresidentJohn Evans Atta Mills will bring about unex-plained unity among the political class and therest of Ghanaians.

Making his first public statement about thedeath of President Mills at a church service inNigeria Sunday, Prophet Joshua, known for hispredictions and prophecies, said there wouldalso be a revolution in governance in Ghana.

The service was monitored on Emmanuel TVcarried by the Crystal TV in Accra yesterdayand was attended by Mr Samuel Kofi AttaMills, son of former President Mills, as well assome members of his family.

A minute's silence was observed in memory ofPresident Mills.

The Nigerian prophet was known to have hadvery close relationship with former PresidentMills.

He is said to have predicted the election ofProfessor Mills as President of the Republic ofGhana in 2008.

According to Prophet Joshua, the son of formerPresident Mills had requested to attend churchservice at the Synagogue Church in Nigeriayesterday to celebrate his father.

Preaching the sermon, Prophet Joshua said,"this is a prophetic word: Our father is a martyr. Those legacies he left behind will prove to youthat he is a martyr as time goes on - there willbe revolution in governance and unexplainedunity among the political class."

Former President Mills, he said, was now at aplace because he led a good life and manywould wish to be there.

"President Mills was a good man but could notdo all the good works for Ghana all alone.”

According to Prophet Joshua, before he died, former President Mills knew that he was leav-ing the world into eternity.

"The departure of our father was as it should beby divine will. It was unchangeable. I saw it

Less than 24 hours after he had been sworn inas President of Ghana, President JohnDramani Mahama has held his first Cabinetmeeting at the Osu Castle, where a number ofissues were discussed yesterday.

Sources at the Castle told The Chronicle thatPresident John Mahama, a Methodist, fol-lowed the foot steps of his predecessor, JohnMills, by leading the Cabinet members inserious prayers before settling down for seri-ous discussions.

Details of what transpired at the meeting, which was attended by almost all the CabinetMinisters and some of the party bigwigs arevery sketchy, but The Chronicle gathered thatamong the issues discussed were the appoint-ment of a new Vice President and the suddendeath of former President Mills among oth-ers, which bothered on the governance of thecountry.

In the case of the Vice President position, nofirm decision has been taken yet, but TheChronicle gathered that the candidate woulddefinitely be coming from Central Region tohelp sustain the support base of the party inboth Central and Western Regions. As a result, jostling for the position hasalready started. Among the names that havecome up are Madam Hanna Tetteh, formerMember of Parliament for Awutu-Senya, Mr.Kwesi Ahwoi, the Minister for Food andAgriculture, Dr. Spio Garbrah, formerMinister of Communication in the Rawlings'government and Dr. Kwesi Botchway, a for-mer Minister of Finance, also under theRawlings regime.

Underground information gathered by thisreporter also indicated that the candidatenominated by the President for approval ofParliament to become the Vice Presidentwould be likely to become the running matefor President Mahama to contest theDecember elections.

This is the reason why both the President andparty leaders are treading cautiously, beforethe new Vice President is named.

The NDC would soon call an emergencyNational Delegate Congress in accordancewith article 22 of the party's constitution. Thesaid article reads: "The National ExecutiveCommittee may call a Special National

Delegates Congress at such notice, placeand date. A Special National DelegatesCongress shall have the same representa-tion and powers as the NationalCongress."

There were initial reports that the formerFirst Lady, Nana Konadu AgyemanRawlings, who contested formerPresident Mills in the presidential pri-mary held in Sunyani last year, wouldbecome automatic presidential candidateof the party.

But that rumour has been ruled out asthere are no provisions in the party's con-stitution that allow the runner-up in thepresidential primary to become the auto-matic candidate for the elections, in casethe elected flagbearer dies, as it has hap-pened now.

Should Hannah Tetteh, who is also theMinister of Trade and Industry, and saidto be the front runner, be nominated asthe Vice President, she would be the firstWoman to hold that position in the politi-cal history of the country.

Connoisseurs, however, believe that thepossible candidate born to a Hungarianmother and Ghanaian father does nothave any strong foothold in the CentralRegion to rake in the necessary votes forthe party in the December elections.

The next in line is Kwesi Ahwoi, who isfrom the Ahwois family. The Ahwois arefrom Agona in the Central Region andSefwi in the Western Region. In fact, their mother hails from Agona Mankrong, whilst their father comes from Sefwi.

Kwesi should, therefore, be the right can-didate for the position and also replacePresident Mills in the Central Region.

He, however, lost terribly when he con-tested the party's parliamentary primaryin the Agona East constituency. This haserased his chances of becoming the VicePresident, since his own people haverejected him.

The onus, therefore, falls on Dr. KwesiBotchway who also hails from theCentral Region and Agona Asafo to be

specific to take up the mantle, but as to whether he wouldaccept it is another question.

Dr. Kwesi Botchway is the longest serving FinanceMinister in the history of Ghana. In 2004, he contestedPresident Mills for the NDC flagbearship and lost. Sincethen, he has not been playing front line role in the party. He is, however, a member of the departed President's eco-nomic management team, drawing economic policies forthe country.

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the NationalDemocratic congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah hasannounced that the National Executive Committee (NEC)of the party would meet today to decide the mode theywould use to elect the new flagbearer for the party.

Speaking on Joy FM last night, 'General Mosquito', as he ispopularly called, said the constitution of the party is silenton how they elect a new leader in circumstance such aswhat has happened constitution of the party. The said arti-cle which grants residual powers to NEC reads:, "Where onany Party matter there is no provision in this Constitutionwhich deals with that matter, the National ExecutiveCommittee shall, by regulations, provide for that matter tobe dealt with." He also quoted the same constitution andargued that whenever a vacuum occurred at the nationalexecutive level, NEC would step in to fill the gap.

The late President Mills was a national executive member, therefore, NEC per the constitutional provision, could stepin to fill the gap by endorsing in this case, President JohnMahama, as the Presidential Candidate of the party.

Alternatively the party can also call an emergency congressas dictated by Article 22 to endorse a presidential candi-date. The method to be adopted by the party would, howev-er, be known by the close of work of today.

In a related development, President John Mahama hasannounced that he has instructed the Chief of Staff to get intouch with President Mills' family to plan a befitting funer-al for the former President.

He was speaking in a meeting with Former PresidentKufuor, Nana Akufo-Addo, the flagbearer of the NewPatriotic Party (NPP), who led the party's delegation toextend their condolences to him, and also congratulate himover his new position as President of Ghana.

According to President John Mahama, he had received anumber of calls from world leaders who wanted to knowwhen the funeral would be organized. He mentioned theseworld leaders as President Barack Obama, AlhassanQuattara, Goodluck Jonathan and a host of others.

He, however, said the government alone could not organizethe funeral and that is why he had instructed the Chief ofStaff to contact the family on how to plan the whole funer-al.

It was his hope that the death of his predecessor wouldhelp to unite and reduce political tension in the country.

President Kufuor on his part advised the new President tosee himself as father of the nation but not to a particulargroup of people. According to Kufuor, the President mighthave ascended to the new position through a political party, but as soon as he takes his oath of office, he becomes thefather for all Ghanaians.

As part of the on-going consultations tobuild a national consensus on the funeraland burial arrangements for our latePresident, His Excellency Prof John EvansAtta Mills, the Funeral

Planning Committee (FPC) on Wednesdayvisited and held discussions with the lead-ership of Parliament, the National ChiefImam, the Chief Justice and the Councilof State.

A statement issued by Deputy Minister ofInformation James Agyanim Boateng saidthe FPC briefed them on the proposedfuneral arrangements and used the discus-sions to seek their opinions on an appro-priate resting place for President AttaMills.

After a series of consultations, the pro-posed burial sites have been narroweddown to the Kwame Nkrumah MemorialPark and a location within the oldFlagstaff House.

A formal announcement of the entire pro-gramme is expected to be issued later.

"I used to celebrate his birthday on Emmanuel TV.If you take note, this last birthday was not shownbecause our father was more of heaven beforebirthday," he said.

Looking ahead, Prophet Joshua, said "death is nota period - it is only a comma - because of JesusChrist's death and resurrection."

He referred to former President Mills as his father, and extended his condolences to the former FirstLady, Dr Ernestina Naadu Mills, the family andthe rest of Ghanaians.

"Here, my heart goes to the wife, son, family andwell wishers. Celebrate our father, not mournbecause it was a life well spent," he said.

Prophet Joshua also denied ever telling anybodythat God did not reveal the death of PresidentMills to him, otherwise "I would have averted it."

He explained that yesterday was the first time hepublicly spoke about the death of the Ghanaianleader.

Prof Mills died at the 37 Military Hospital lastTuesday, after a short illness.

When Mr Samuel Mills was called to speak to thecongregation, he spoke for about 30 secondsthanking the church for its prayer support for hisfather.

Since the death of President Mills, the politicalclass and all Ghanaians have been unanimous intheir tributes that he was a great statesman, hum-ble and who would have done great things for thecountry.

All the political parties have suspended politicalcampaigns in memory of President Mills.

Zimbabwe: Poison Delivered for Water Treatment

An alert truck driver sent to deliver 19tonnes of poisonous sodium cyanide toHarare's main waterworks averted disasterlast Wednesday when he raised alarm justwhen he was about to offload the chemi-cal.

The driver told workers at Morton JaffrayWater Treatment Plant thathe suspected hewas carrying a poisonous chemical.

The workers were preparing to offload thechemical into drums, which they wouldhave used to "treat" water for consumptionby Harare residents.

They were expecting to receive liquid alu-minum sulphate water treatment chemicalon the day.

Sources said there was a mix up, resultingin the driver with the truck loaded withsodium cyanide being sent to deliver thechemical tothe water treatment plant.

The workers at the plant informed townclerk Dr Tendai Mahachi after being alert-ed by the driver.

Dr Mahachi directed that the consignmentbe returned to Bak Storage.

Sources close to the matter said over 19tonnes of the deadly chemical were beingdelivered through a local delivery compa-ny (name supplied). Local Government,Rural and Urban Development MinisterIgnatius Chombo yesterday said he hadreceived a report on the matter from DrMahachi.

"I am still studying the report. I will onlybe able to give a fullreport when I have done the necessaryinvestigations," he said.

Dr Mahachi declined to comment andreferred all questions to Minister Chombo.

"We have given a report to the minister,"he said.

City officials confirmed they had refusedto take in the hugeconsignment, which was received throughBak Storage.

Last week, the city water supply situationwas depressed with very fewsuburbs accessing water.

City officials blamed the shortages on theheavy pollution of Lake Manyame.

According to the Centre for DiseaseControl and Prevention website, cyanide is a rapidly acting, potentiallydeadly chemical that can

exist in various forms, which can be a colour-less gas, such ashydrogen cyanide (HCN) or cyanogen chlo-ride (CNCl), or a crystal formsuch as sodium cyanide (NaCN) or potassiumcyanide (KCN).

Hydrogen cyanide, under the name Zyklon B,is a fatal chemical thatwas once used as a genocidal agent by theGermans during World War II.

In manufacturing, cyanide is used to makepaper, textiles and plasticsand is present in the chemicals used to devel-op photographs.

Cyanide salts are used in metallurgy for elec-troplating, metalcleaning, and removing gold from its ore.

Cyanide gas is used to exterminate pests andvermin in ships and buildings.

People can be exposed to cyanide throughbreathing air, drinkingwater, eating food, or touching soil that con-tains its particles.

The extent of poisoning depends on theamount of cyanide a person isexposed to, route of exposure and length ofexposure.

Inhaling the gas causes the most harm butingesting it can be toxic as well.

It prevents the cells of the body from usingoxygen and is moreharmful to the heart and brain.

There are reports that some poachers usecyanide to kill elephants andrhinoceros. They put the chemicals in majordrinking points and latercome and remove horns when the animalseventually die.

New CreationRealities

Introduction

Man is a spirit having a soul and living in abody. If a person gets Born Again it is not yourbody or mind but your spirit that is Born Again. Why spirit? The transgression of Adam and Evein the Garden of Eden resulted in a spiritualdeath or second death.

Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sinentered into the world, and death by sin; and sodeath passed upon all men, for that all havesinned:When we get Born Again our dead spirit is

regenerated and given a new life called Zoë inHebrew meaning the life of God.John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He thatheareth my word, and believeth on him that sentme, hath everlasting life, and shall not come intocondemnation; but is passed from death untolife.God forgives our sins and accepts us as newcreatures.2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man [be] inChrist, [he is] a new creature: old things arepassed away; behold all things are become new. Even though the Born Again experience is aspiritual one the changes that takes place are soreal that it affects our relationship to heaven andhow we influence the earth with spiritual princi-ples. They are referred to as New CreationRealities and are categorized as follows:1. Our position or who we are in Christ2. Our potential or what we can do in Christ3. Our possessions or what we have in Christ………….To be continuedwww.redemptionnews.org

Purpose

The phone rings, and you answer. A sullen voiceinforms you of a tragedy. Your heart is so heavythat you feel as though you could die. What doyou do? Matthew 14:29-30

Bad news, danger, and pain all cause us to lookfor help. As believers, we dwell with the almightyGod, who is able to aid us. At those momentswhen we are sideswiped by life’s circumstances,we should cry out to Him.

In the Bible, crying out refers to speaking audiblywith great emotion concerning an urgent need.God invites us to use this form of prayer to com-municate that we desperately need His mercy.

It takes both faith and humility to share ourheart’s concern aloud. Crying out, then, is a wayfor God’s children to express trust in the Lord’sability and willingness to help. By calling uponHim with such urgency, we also lay down ourpride and any attitude of self-sufficiency.

The Word of God assures us that our Father hearsour cries and responds. In Psalm 3:4, for example,David wrote, “I was crying to the Lord with myvoice, and He answered from His holy mountain.”When we call aloud for help in Jesus’ name, weinvite His power into the situation. Rememberthat there is strength in just speaking His name.

When we cry out to God, He may remove theproblem immediately, yet we often have to waitfor His perfect timing. Harsh circumstances mighteven be allowed to remain for His good purposes. But we can always count on His comfort andpresence, which enable us to live with joy andhope

God has a purpose for your life. If that weren'ttrue, He'd have taken you home to heaven atthe moment of salvation. Do you ever wonderwhy He left you here? Galatians 5:13

The Lord intends to influence others throughyou. Our purpose is to be a vessel throughwhich Christ overflows to others--touchingthose who hurt and desperately need a Savior.Once we are saved, Scripture teaches, ourinvolvement is threefold.

First, we love others. Jesus clearly stated thatthis was one of the two greatest command-ments (Matt. 22:38-39).

Second, we share the good news of salvation(Acts 1:8). Some travel across the world tospread the gospel, while others teach neighborsacross the street. The Holy Spirit will direct usto the right people if we are willing to obey.

Third, we serve in a variety of ways, like help-ing those in need, sharing our resources, andlifting others in prayer. Jesus is our perfectexample of all three. His entire life wasmarked by caring for people--both those wholoved Him and those who did not. In fact, theBible teaches that He humbled Himself andbecame like us, willing to give up His life forour redemption. There is no greater love; thereis no greater act of service.

Scripture clearly defines the believer's purpose.Aligning ourselves with God's intentions forHis children--loving others, witnessing, andserving-- bring us great satisfaction. In fact,we're still on earth not merely to hear moreteaching but to act on it and share with otherswhat we learn.

Have you ever experienced the bitter stingof a broken promise from a close friend?Few things hurt worse than this kind ofbetrayal, most likely because it marks thefaltering trust between two companions.

For this reason, it is of eternal value to rec-ognize the trustworthiness of almightyGod. We serve a God of promises. Hepledged a new land for His people, a childto the elderly Abraham, and a Savior forthe world. Each of these and many morepromises were fulfilled in time, accordingto His perfect will. Hebrews 10:23 affirms,“He who promised is faithful.”

Sometimes, however, God’s promises aremarked with conditions. Although weserve a God of limitless grace and mercy,He often charges us with responsibilitiesupon which our success will depend. Forinstance, in today’s passage, we see thatconfidence, obedience, and endurance areall vital elements in “receiving what hasbeen promised” (Heb. 10:35-36).

This does not mean that we can earn God’sfavor with good deeds. In truth, He lovesus not for what we do, but because Hecannot help loving each of us passionatelyjust as we are.

If we love Him in return, we must takeresponsibility for what He has called us todo. This is not a maneuver to finagle bless-ings from Him, but rather an act of humblesubmission to His will. When we operatefrom such a standpoint, we are in the per-fect position to grab hold of what Hewants to give us.

Principles for Sustainable Increase Part 3.'And call upon me in the day of trouble and Iwill deliver you' Ps 50:15There was this guy who had a brush with thelaw for being just stupid; he drove his vehicleinto somebody’s vehicle with no insurance.Knowing fully well that, that was not onlyagainst the law but it deprived him of his abil-ity to go to work, earn a living and maintainhis personal dignity. An insurance policy guar-antees your ability to hold your head up highin the event of an accident. If you have aninsurance policy, your account has to be cur-rent, in order to maximize your chance ofbeing covered by your insurance. The insurance idea was lifted from the pagesof the bible by the Jews.

There are two gates of influence that theJews have a stronghold on that has made theJewish Lobby system so powerful: Bankingand Finance as well as the Media. As Jewish author and political science profes-sor Benjamin Ginsberg has pointed out:“Since the 1960s, Jews have come to wieldconsiderable influence in American economic, cultural, intellectual and political life. Jewsplayed a central role in American finance dur-ing the 1980s, and they were among the chiefbeneficiaries of that decades corporate merg-ers and reorganizations.

Today, though barely two percent of thenation’s population is Jewish, close to half itsbillionaires are Jews. The chief executive offi-cers of the three major television networks andthe four largest film studios are Jews, as arethe owners of the nation’s largest newspaper chain and one of the mostinfluential newspaper, the New York Times. The role and influence of Jews in Americanpolitics is equally significant.

Vanity Fair magazine in October 2007 pub-lished a list of what it calls “the world’s mostpowerful people” – a lineup of the one hun-dred most influential media bosses, bankers, publishers, image makers, and so forth, Jews made up more than half of thepowerful men and women on the Vanity Fairlist, reported a leading Israeli newspaper, TheJerusalem Post. This has to do more with the physical mani-

ing to and seeing some of Thomas' work andI know three things for sure: He is extreme-ly passionate about his work, he is multi-tal-ented and above all, he has a strong desire tomake people--especially children--happyeither directly or indirectly through hiswork. When I asked him to talk about hiswork he told me that he has different "stylesof painting, but I'd describe my main styleas a semi-detailed abstract and a form offree style painting. My figures are painted inan elongated, elaborate, tense and elegantway in sharp and deliberate contrast to har-monious naturalism. I mainly depict Africanimages blended in a non-African style ofpainting and I also do that through graffitiart".

It's one thing to hear it from the horses ownmouth and it's a totally different thing to seethings for yourself and since seeing isbelieving, I have the privilege of sharingsome of Thomas' great work of beauty withthose of you who have a Google accounthere: https://plus.google.com/u/0/pho-tos/118238732236341202086/albums/5759602394847012481 According to Thomas he"started with a watercolor ink. I applied thison textured card stock, canvas or paper, butnow I use acrylic paints, oil paints, cansprays, Graffiti pens and I feel that mypaintings have improved". Am no paintingconnoisseur but I do know and can easilyappreciate a greater work of art when I seeone but who am I to judge, take a look againfor yourself from the samples I have sharedwith you here and don't forget to like orcomment through your Google+ or Gmailaccounts.

On seeing Mr Appiah's work I felt reallyimpressed and decided to discover whatmade him tick; that which really inspireshim and this was the response he gave me:"I get inspired from the things I see, read orlisten to, and sometimes inspiration couldeven come to me through dreams or mypure imagination. My passion for paintingmotivates me, but the thought of our vastfading culture motivates me the more topaint a lot more in order to create awarenessand preserve our heritage. I have set myselfout on a mission to put Ghana and Africaout there positively by using my work toportray ART OUT OF AFRICA!"

"My creative palette extends to several visu-al channels, and I believe education willimprove my skills. I aspire to become a car-toonist one day and also establish an artinstitution. I want to use my means and tal-ents to help the physically challenged andless privilege ones around me" he says ofhis long term future ambitions and dreams.Thomas hopes to continue selling some ofhis art works to raise funds towards his edu-cation as well as helping people around him.

I therefore encourage any of you thatmight be interested in his work to feel freeand reach out to me here and I will gladlyput you in direct contact with him.

There's been a lot of difficulties that havegotten in the way and continue to get inthe way of Mr. Alicoe's desire to achievehis dreams as an artiste with the biggest ofsuch negatives which he has so far beenable to somewhat get over being comingto terms with the reality of his father'spassing away. This unfortunate happeningleft him to be raised by a single. Anotherwas the tremendous criticisms he facedfrom some religious circles in his commu-nity and from his peers especially aboutsome of his work and their portrayalswhich some people felt was in contradic-tion to their beliefs. Those rather difficulttimes have been severe enough to almostbring Thomas to a halt. Yet his determina-tion couple with the support received fromhis mother and those who really believe inwhat he does is what kept him going tilltoday.

When I first saw the kind of work thatThomas was doing and the qualityattached to it, I was very surprised that hehadn't got the opportunity to expose him-self and his work to the art community ina very formal way in his native Ghana. After talking to him for a while I decidedto feature him on my blog especially afterhearing him say: "I have not participatedin any group exhibition before, yet I havesold a lot of my works mostly to touristswho come visiting Ghana and end uparound my art (some of whom I meet pri-vately) though I must confess that eventhough business is slow in Ghana, some-times I do get contracts that are veryfinancially rewarding. I have more of myworks around the world in countries likeGermany, England, Australia, the USAand in my homeland Ghana" he tells me.

It is my hope that this piece will get tobring Thomas Alicoe Appiah more of theexposure he needs especially in theGhanaian art community and also in theworld because until now, the method bywhich he exhibits his art works is mainlyvia social media through mediums likeFacebook, Google+ and more radicalmeans like doing elaborate and beautifulgraffiti either on unpainted walls ofuncompleted or abandon buildings.Thomas sees his rather modernistic andunconventional ways of exhibiting hiswork as being effective in a way becauseit has been good and has brought himfriends, collectors and art lovers from allover and I am hoping you too will becomea fan of his.

I Will Pour You Out A Blessing!GRACE FRONTIER

This has to do more with the physical mani-

festation of the Abrahamic Covenant. What do the Jews know and practice thatsome Christians are reluctant to do? The Jews have the Old Testament anduse the principles therein to advance theircause. Psalm 50: 5-15 says: gather to me my

Rev. Kwabby Adom-Fosu

saints who have a covenant with me through sacri-fice. God wants us to give to causes that glo-rify His name. He says the cattle on the thou-sands hills belong to Him. He knows everybird in the mountains and the creatures of thefield belong to Him. If He were hungry Hewill certainly not tell us. The world andeverything in It. He just wants us to give, inorder to show our commitment and trust inHim by paying our vows, and offering sacri-fice of thanksgiving to Him. And if we obeyand we are in trouble we should call uponHim and He will come to our aid. This is where the concept of insurance camefrom; if you show your commitment to Him, He will have you cov-ered when you need Him.

Tithe: giving ten percent of your incometo God shows your trust and confidence in Him rather than your job thatgave you the money. It says you trust God as your source and the UltimateProvider. The bible says bring it to the House of God so there will bemeat in His house.

Some people say tithing is an OldTestament order that does not apply today. More so Jesus did not directly addresstithing. It is also true thattithing predates the Mosaic Law. Abraham

paid tithe to Melchizedek. And Abraham is the father of Faith so if

Abraham did something that was endorsed by God why are we reluctant toapply it and enjoy the benefits of it. My friends, there are two thingsyou do not change in life;a winning formula and a winning coach.

Abraham tithed and was wealthy and couldconquer kings with his household (Gen13:14-16). Jesus said unless your right-eousness exceeds that of the Pharisees; thePharisees majored in external ceremonies toshow off their commitment to God. They were fasting, praying and tithing openly to express their commitment to God butsometimes not from the heart. Jesus asked His disciples to go beyond out-ward display of piety. Let your actions be motivated by love.Tithes were paid so that the Levites and theweak in the society could eat. Ministers still have to eat. The weak inthe early Church were taken care of. We still have to use our heartsand remember the poor.(Acts 20:35) Tithesare paid at the local church.

There was a guy who stopped going toChurch because he said he did not appreciatehow his pastor used money. That was not aprudent decision. Truth be told, the fact is,the guy was not in covenant with his pastor. He was in covenant with God and by he notfellowshipping with the faithful he wasdepriving himself of the Source of all power. The pastor is accountable to God as to the usehe puts the Church money to, you rememberthe sons of Eli? They treated the offering ofGod with contempt and the Lord dealt withthem severely. (1 Sam 2:29-32 )

The tithe is your covenant connector; itreminds God of your trust in Him. And itkeeps your heavenly account current. It is just

like you paying your monthly insurance premi-um. Only that the insurance agency cannot stopyou getting into accidents, but God can. He saysHe will rebuke the devourer for your sake. Themen of old lived in the agrarian culture; theyreared animals and tilled the land to make a liv-ing. God said He would protect their crops frombeen attacked by pests and rodents. And keeppredators away from their animals.

Today if you invite God into your financesby paying your tithe He stays the hand of the enemy from your camp. You survive where others fail. What may knock others down may happento you and you will still be on your feet. God grants you travel mercieson the highways. They may be laying people off at work but you willkeep your job. God is faithful and true to His word. The ten percentinvites God’s favor and supernatural power into the ninety percent. Soif you do not trust your pastor and cannot submitto his leadership ask the Holy Spirit to direct you to a churchwhere you can submit to the leadership and pay your tithe. You cannotafford not to. The benefits are immense.

God says if you tithe faithfully he will open thewindows of Heaven and pour out a blessing foryou.(Mal.3:10) He will bless the work of yourhands. He will let you see success in what youdo.

As narrated by Dr. Bill Bakerbey of Word ofGrace Fellowship in Herndon, VA. Pastor Bill had tutored a youngman in the manifold benefits of tithing. He bought into it. And startedtithing faithfully, and saw abundance in the tap-estry of his handiwork. Putting $10,000 in theoffering bowl was not a bother to him. Hisclients became so many he was making one mil-lion dollars a month. That was when he startedreasoning into giving to God. Wow, how can Iput $100,000 into the offering bowl? Hequipped. He stopped going to Church in ordernot to tithe.

And the windows of Heaven begun to closeover his assigned territory; one by one clients refused to renew their con-tracts closed their accounts. Those who owedhim failed to pay up. Credit lines were with-drawn. And like the prodigal son he came to hissenses and remembered the God Who set him onthe road to success, and asked for forgiveness.

He says pay your vows and call unto Me inthe day of trouble and I will deliver you. Youwant the favor of God to be strong in yourcamp?, be a tither; it connects you to God’sunlimited provision.( Ps 23; Mal 3:10b) Youwant God to build His hedge of protectionaround you and caused you to be on your feet nomatter what the enemy throws at you?( Ps.91; Mal 3:11) Give ten percent of you incometo God and He will show Himself strong on your behalf.( 2Ch 16:9) Willyou

Picture yourself waiting in a checkout line thathasn’t moved for ten minutes. Many of uswould feel frustrated. We live in a generationthat expects instant results.Hebrews 6:9-15

Everyone struggles with some degree of impa-tience. We’re born with this trait—think abouta three-month-old who wants milk in the mid-dle of the night. The inborn reaction is to fussat the first hint of discomfort and to keep at ituntil the need is met. Patterns from our old“flesh” nature make this a continual battle formost people, but one that is very worthwhile tofight.

Let’s consider the biblical definition ofpatience. It can mean both longsufferingandperseverance, or not giving up and yieldingunder pressure. In either case, it reveals itselfwhen we are willing to wait without frustrationwhile suffering or experiencing some strongdesire. In other words, we accept difficult situ-ations without giving God deadlines.

What’s more, patience means accepting whatthe Lord gives, on Histimetable—or what Hechooses not to give. This quality results ininner peace and lack of stress. Meanwhile, weshould pray, obey, and persist as we seekGod’s direction.

The danger of impatience is that we mightmiss the Lord’s perfect plan and His blessing.Only when we trust our Father’s will and tim-ing can we rest peacefully.

What causes you stress? Carefully examinewhether you are taking matters into your ownhands or releasing the circumstance toalmighty God. Listen to Psalm 37:7, whichsays, “Rest in the Lord and wait patiently forHim.” Seek His way and His timing. Anythingelse can be destructive.

He said since majority ofGhanaians are Christians, thechurch must accept to play aunique role to discourageindiscipline and social injus-tices. Additionally, he said, the Church should worktogether with the State to pro-mote the socio-economic,political and spiritual develop-ment of the people.

The Most Rev expressed opti-mism that the nation would gothrough the upcoming presi-dential and parliamentaryelections peacefully. He invit-ed the congregation to prayfor the evangelists to beblessed and guided by God.

Exclusive information reaching Peacefmonline.com indi-cates that the governor of Bank of Ghana, Paa KwesiAmissah Arthur has been appointed as the vice Presidentof the Republic of Ghana.

Several names came up within the week for the position, but the governor of Bank of Ghana beat off stiff competi-tion from other renowned NDC personalities.

The position of the Vice President became vacant follow-ing the elevation of the then Vice President John Mahamato the high office of the President after the death ofPresident Mills at the 37 Military Hospital on TuesdayJuly 24, 2012..

Article 60 (10) of the 1992 Constitution states that “theVice President shall, upon assuming office as Presidentunder clause 6 of this article nominate a person to theoffice of Vice President subject to approval byParliament.”

Article 60 (1) of the 1992 Constitution also states thatthere shall be a Vice President of Ghana who shall per-form such functions as may be assigned to him by thisConstitution or by the President.

Dr. Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, an Economist wasappointed by the late President Mills as Governor of theCentral Bank on October 1, 2009 to replace Dr. PaulAcquah who served 8 years as Governor.

Mr. Amissah-Arthur holds a Masters Degree inEconomics and has lectured in Economics at theUniversity of Ghana and also at the Anambra StateCollege of Education, Awka Anambra State, Nigeria.

Mr. Amissah Arthur also worked as PNDC DeputySecretary for the Ministry of Finance and EconomicPlanning and continued to work in the same capacity dur-ing the first term of the Rawlings-led NDC Government.

He was among the team of technocrats who managedGhana’s structural adjustment programme since 1980 thathelped in reviving the collapsing Ghanaian economy.

Prior to his appointment as Governor of Ghana’s CentralBank, he worked as a private consultant.

There has been intense lobbying for that top position.

The running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP’s)presidential candidate, Mahamudu Bawumia’s masteryover economics, against the backdrop of his identificationof the challenges facing the country’s fiscal management, was largely used by the opposition NPP to parry politicalpolemics from its rival NDC as the two engaged eachother in the game of partisan politics.

Perhaps, it is the expectation of the ruling party that withsuch a choice, the NDC would be able to respond ade-quately to the incursions of Dr. Bawumia.

The running mate to the flag-bearer of the NPP was thedeputy governor of the apex bank and one could easilyconclude that the two leading parties are letting loosetheir gurus of fiscal management on the political arena.

The short-listing of the Bank of Ghana governor is theculmination of a brief but stressful challenge given the

long list of possibilities.

His appointment has automatically knocked off somehigh-profile personalities who came up strongly asfavourites for the position. They included Dr KwesiBotchwey, a former Minister of Finance; Ms HannahTetteh, the current Minister of Trade and Industry; MrSamuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Minister of LocalGovernment and Rural Development.

The names of Mr P.V. Obeng, the Chairman of theNational Development Planning Commission(NDPC); Mr Goosie Tanoh, a leading member of theparty; Mr Kwesi Ahwoi, the Minister of Food andAgriculture, and Mr Sylvester Mensah, the ChiefExecutive of the National Health Insurance Authority, also popped up.

So many people will think Iwas very difficult, even mymother.

But he would tell her toleave me alone. Even then,my mother will say ‘you willnot marry, there is no onethat will marry you’,” shesaid with a smile.

Describing her husband as

her love ‘therapist’, Ekeindeattributed her spiritual growth toher husband.

“I have even gone closer toChrist because of his exemplarybehavior and the way he handlesthings.

With the maturity I find in him,I can admire that and then emu-late him.

That is the connection and theway I have been able to livewith him.”

Asked if she considered herselfa doting mother to her four chil-dren, the actress let out a gale oflaughter, saying, “In my ownmind, yes. In fact, my kids thinkI am their situation too much.

So I am thinking that if I wasaround, they would have runaway from the house. I feel I ama very hands-on mum.

In fact I just got back fromGhana and they were telling methat I am always on the phonewith them.

Even though my husband isalways around, I know whatthey are doing every minute.

I think I am a bit too strict withthem maybe because I am tak-ing after my mother. She was adisciplinarian to the core.”
