Africa Magazine Talks about Elena Gyasi...Elena Gyasi’s creative senses are pushing her right up to the top along with Rihanna and Beyonce. Elena Gyasi was there at Paris and London fashion week working with D&G and Versace. She was on the cat walk and even helped design some of those fab clothes. However she warns us that she still loves high street fashion and her favourites are still TopShop, River Island and H&M. In summer She loves to wear large baggy t-shirts with shorts. She also goes hunting around

in charity shops and vintage stores to find old Levi Jeans. This is so she can cut them up and make her very own shorts! She loves Brick Lane as she always finds a nice pair of old jeans in one of their vintage markets. We also see her wearing jeans from TopShop very often. She says this is because they fit perfectly and she loves the material they use. Let’s look at her Summer looks. She often buys her own material and makes her own clothes. She said she finds making clothes fun. There are many Youtube tutorials giving advice and Elena even has her own Youtube channel. We love her movement.

Naomi Bharwani interviews Africa’s latest singer Joannah Sampson.. we meet in zanzibar a beautiful resturant in Accra

Ghana. She is 15 minutes late but does not apologize. we begin straight away. We know where she gets her reputation from.

NB: what’s it like being Joannah Sampson?

JS : Well I love the life I live and I am very blessed to be in the suitation I am at the moment. I started with nothing so it feels good now, I am blessed.

NB: You say you started with nothing? What do you mean by this.

JS: Well my mum was a single parent and we erm struggled. I came from a family of 6 children. my mum is very strong and independent. That’s why I love her.

NB: What do you think it means to your family, that your now this established.

JS: They always tell me how proud they are of me. I always have a constant reminder, they are happy and that is all I want them to be.

NB: You have recently been seen with P-square’s Peter Okoye, is there a spicy romance going on that you can tell us about?

JS: [laughs] Spicy romance? well shit. [laughs] wow you guys.. no we are just really good friends. Peter.. Helps me with my music and anything I need I can ask him for. We are very close.

NB: How would you describe yourself in one sentence?

JS: Hmm..Tea on somedays and hennessy on others. NB: What makes you happy?

JS: My God, family, Friends and Fans. My fans mean the world to me. I wouldn’t be anything without them. And of course everyone needs a good friend and a supporting family.

NB: What’s your favourite song on the Album ‘Pears & Gold.’

JS: My favourite song has to be mother ‘Africa’ and ‘Tension at the party’. My hard work really paid off.

NB: Africa in 5 years?

JS: More resources, less poverty, hot sun, love and happy children. Africa is a wonderful place, hopefully more people will have the chance to find that out. Many tourists and

NB: Does it bother you, that Africa is sometimes represented as a country that doesn’t know how to use their resources properly. Do you believe that poverty is the word people constantly associate with Africa.

JS: Yes. Africa is made out to be this dark place with starving children and sad faces. Honestly that’s not the case. I went to kenya and met some Children and there was one boy in particular. Peter, he shook my hand and danced, He didnt know I was a singer, and he didn’t know I was from the US. He was just happy to meet someone new. Happy that it is Africa.

NB: Thank you for sharing your stories and answers with us. Good luck with the album.

JS:No problem, Long live Africa.

Our very own Dj met Fashion Designer Larry Abbs and asked him a few questions about his roots and Ghanaian background, He was born in London, but his parents are originally from Ghana. Larry always had a love for fashion, and would walk around in his dad’s best suits and leather shoes. Of course when his dad wasn’t there! LOL. We met him at Stax diner an American themed diner in London, He is eating chicken and waffles drenched in golden syrup in the corner, no one seems to want to bother him, or maybe they are just polite. After he’s finished eating, he walks over to us. DJ and Larry have met many times, we begin our interview this is what we find out. Here’s what we found out.

DJ : Yo Larry, remind us where your from?

Larry : I am from Ghana, West Africa

DJ : Have you been there previously?

Larry : Yes I have many times, I have many family members in Ghana and it’s a fantastic place to visit.

DJ: How do you incorporate your Ghanaian culture with the clothes you wear today?

Larry : I mean why not wear some Kente with some Yeezy’s.Let’s bring Africa into the spotlight, No one should be ashamed to be an African especially in 2015, we are really in our elements.

DJ: Any news on the Fashion line? And will we see some of Ghana in those clothes?

Larry [laughs] oh of course, lots of different materials will be used, and many different types of patterns. I am also working on Kente men’s shorts, infact I can imagine you in them DJ.

DJ: Like the new Wang collection?

*AfricalCultureClub

Larry : Wang. I mean he is a great friend of mine. And we plan to work together in the future, the collection is amazing. I even had to go out and buy the Macy Shine jeans. Big him up serious.

DJ: We know Roxanne is very into fashion and we can see that she is very eager to dress your twins Rocco and Ella up in the latest fashionable baby clothes. Do you share her excitement?

Larry : Yes infact I do, Roxanna has seen what our friends Kim and Kanye are doing to their princess North and it makes my wife Ella so excited to dress up the twins when they are older. We love the D&G collection for babies and Rocco will have a very big trainer collection just like his daddy when he grows up.

DJ: Aw that’s awesome, what will you teach your children in the future, something your parents taught you?

Larry : My dad always used to tell me I can be anything I want to be. And I believed him. Now I am the Black Karl Lagerfeld, I guess my Dad was right. I will encourage my children to follow their dreams and do anything they want to do and be anything they want to be.

DJ: Summer? Any plans?

Larry : Really wanna focus on my summer collection and i am travelling around with Rick Ross and the rest of the coke Boys this summer. I also want to spend time with my wife Roxanne and my beautiful twins. We will all be travelling to Paris for the notorius fashion week. Should be great fun.

DJ: Thank you for everything Brother, all the best in the future.

Larry: No problem man, see you around town bro.
