Chelsea Football Club - Training Facility Cobham
AFL Architects have developed the concept of a building in harmony with its setting: meeting the demands of a challenging brief whilst integratinwg the landscape of this sensitive site. The green roof makes reference to the existing ground plane, raised to create volumes below which are enclosed by glazed facades. The facades are then shielded where required, against solar gain by solid shards formed using metal panels designed to naturally weather over time, and variably aligned to add texture.

Everton Football Club Academy & Finch Farm Training Ground
The design philosophy for the training ground was to develop a state of the art facility based on several principles. The new pavilion and any hard landscaping was located in a similar position to that of the existing farm buildings and associated hardstandings. Any other buildings were limited to that of a groundsmens store enclosure and security lodge. The perceived building heights were kept as low as possible by emphasising a horizontal aesthetic and avoiding steep pitched roofs.

Liverpool Football Club - Melwood Training Ground
AFL completed the new training pavilion for Liverpool Football Club’s multi million pound rated first team. A definitive feature of the building is the double height, top lit street. This space defines the 3 main areas of the building via walls of split face blockwork, iroko timber cladding and the signature red rendered wall. All three elements also feature externally combining with the striking metal clad press lounge to create a building form of considerable note.
AFL Architects 15
London Irish RFC - Training Facility
London Irish RFC has appointed AFL to design a new progressive facility that will become the future base for the club. The building will provide a backdrop for the new training and match pitches, within which will be changing quarters, treatment suites, administration areas and a commercial zone all huddled around the recreational facilities for the club and its members.

Southampton Football Club - Training Facility Marchwood
The design of the new training centre for Southampton FC will provide state of the art facilities for the football club’s first team and its youth academy. The club aims to provide an aspirational environment that will integrate the first and youth teams, and encourage the development and progress of the younger players. The site is in a rural setting at the edge of the New Forest and therefore the choice of natural unfinished timber cladding to the walls and roof has allowed for very contemporary architectural style and massing to be created.

Chelsea Football Club Training Ground Youth Academy
The second phase of the Cobham development was to provide a second pavilion specifically for youth and community use. Whilst being a more economic solution this building takes its influence from the adjacent first team/academy facility and completed the sports campus at Cobham. The building comprises 16 changing rooms, equipment stores, gymnasium plus support recreational and welfare facilities. Materials include free weathering brass cladding to the gables and eaves, a subtle ochre rendered plinth and horizontal curtain walling.

Under The Bridge Chelsea Football Club Stamford Bridge Stadium
A truly unique music and entertainment venue, offering an unforgettable experience and paying homage to the influence of British popular music over the last 50 years. Working in close conjunction with US Architect Jim Cafarelli, the designer of the famous ‘House Of Blues’ chain, the concept was to create an industrial feel reminiscent of old bridge undercrofts and old warehouses, evoking the type of raw spaces in which many of the UK’s greatest bands performed in their earliest days. Designed and built with the highest attention to detail, and featuring state of the art architectural, audio-visual and lighting specifications, this intimate London venue was competed Christmas 2010.
AFL Architects 41
Liverpool Football Club Boot Room Ellesmere Port
Further to AFL’s successful involvement in a Boot Room themed restaurant at Anfield stadium in 2010, the Practice were invited to design and project manage a second venue in Cheshire Oaks. Working within an existing unit, the design had to both follow the concept of the original restaurant, further strengthening the brand, and the landlord’s requirements and restrictions. Opening in December 2011, the restaurant has proved successful, providing a high class dining environment, besides subtle branding towards football and the club.
