WHO ARE WE? AFC!Welcome to Annerley Football Club

Women's Football - the Very BeginningIn 1965 the Brisbane Junior Soccer Association (BJAS) granted permission fora women's soccer competition to be established. Annerley was one of the fourinaugural teams entered into the competition, playing their first ever game atWynnum at 2.30pm on the 16th of April, 1965

Mrs Vi Winnett took charge of the team as manager and Bob Geoghegan was namedcoach shortly after. Bob held the coaching role until 1976; during his tenure Annerleywon the 1966 grand final and the following nine premierships (including seven moregrand finals).

In 1974 the first Australia Women’s Soccer Championships were held in Sydney andAnnerley’s very own Elaine Watson (O.A.M) was asked to select, coach and manage theQLD team. Annerley had four representatives in the first state team and were wellrepresented in both the State and National team from then onwards.

Annerley F.C. VS Taringa Rovers

4:00PM

Coach: Michael Fahey

Here it is - the business end of theseason and our last homegame. Looking back, it has been afairly successful year thus far. Wepicked up the Pine Hills InvitationalBWPL Reserves trophy pre-season,we're finishing the season in the topfour and will be heading into finals.

Team ListAmanda McKay, Kalla Linsley, Emily Purton, Hannah Mearns, Jenna Hutchinson, KaileeSolomon, Katie Evans, Natalie Apolony, Romina Richardson, Cienne Morton, TamaraAmbrose, Tamara Birleson, Josie Samphier & Tammy Weckert.

We currently sit in second spot to the Ipswich Knights, and two good results will secure that for us. We will face adetermined Taringa side today as they still have a slimchance of making top four but must beat us to do so. Lastgame we went down in a tight tussle on the back of alacklustre performance, but our previous game here sawus 7-2 winners. We are well prepared for a very physicalencounter and are ready to send a message. Go Annerley!

6:00PM

What a fantastic day for Annerley FC Women’s Football! Todaycelebrates 50 years since Annerley fielded its first ever women’s team. Ican think of no better way to celebrate than with a BWPL match that isshaping up to be an absolute cracker. Last time our two sides met wewere disappointed to see Pine Hills walk away as 1-0 victors, in whatmany would describe as the match of the year. This time we are out toeven the ledger. Today is the last match of the season and a win wouldsecure us a top three finish come finals next weekend.

Team ListGemma Layfield, Donna Smith, Maddison Rejtano, Stephanie Pantelas, Chiara Marconato,Emily Simms, Mariko Kirkcaldie, Jaymee Birleson, Rebecca Sweeney, Kate Deegan, MollieO'Connor, Chloe Thompson, Laura Blue & Zoe Argeros.

My girls have worked extremely hard as a squad, have played some fantastic football, andhave shown great improvement throughout the year. I’m extremely proud of how far theteam has come, as well as the manner in which they apply themselves, both on and offthe pitch - these girls are a credit to this club. Hopefully we can finish the season withanother good performance.

ROUND 18

Premier League

PINE HILLS

Coach: Ben Fuhrman

We're really looking forward to this game. Unfortunately, for the pasttwo months or so, we have struggled to put our strongest line-up on

the park. As such, both our consistency and our results havesuffered. Thankfully we are now starting to see all of our players

trickle back, and with finals just around the corner it's not a momenttoo soon. What better way to warm-up for finals than by travelling toElder Oval to take on one of the competition heavyweights, on what

will be a fantastic day for women's footy at Annerley FC..

Coach's Corner! with Ben Fuhrman

Team ListKath Page, Tegan Dawney, Jillian Tanson, Mel Rodwell, Sarah Nisbett, Ellie Carpathios,

Caitlin McCarthy, Caitlin O'Halloran, Cassie Vial, Erin Nichols, Sarah Fuller, LauraBryant, Fern Doyle & Emma Cantrell.

We're expecting a tough match, which is no different to every time our teams have facedone another this season. We know Annerley have strengths all over the park and we have

to make sure we are on our game for the entire 90 minutes, otherwise it could be a verylong night for us. Should be a cracker!
