Nawras is a leading mobile communications provider in theSultanate of Oman. As a joint venture between Qatar’s Qtel,

European telecommunications company TDC and several prom-inent Omani partners, Nawras has grown to become one of the

most dynamic mobile service providers with the widestnetwork coverage in the country. The launch of its 3G network 

in December 2007– the rst to do so in Oman, marked anothermilestone for the company.

In response to the growing complexity of its network, Nawras

team’s daily operations and how it has helpedtackle some of the tedious problems - now a thing

of the past;

“When it comes to planning, Xeus has played animportant role in simplifying the creation of CDD

for new sites; from selecting ARFCN to neighbordenition, Xeus Pro automates this process for us.

Suffice to say that this tool has helped us save a lotof time. With ongoing roll-out and the changes in

frequencies, co-channel interference is also athing of the norm. Xeus Pro enabled us to identify

the usage of frequencies both geographically andstatistically to avoid such interference,” said Taha,

referring to Xeus Pro’s ability to extract and exportparameter data from their Ericsson switches.

“Furthermore the multi-technology support that

comes in Xeus Pro is brilliant as it has helped us inall aspects, be it IRAT relations, IRAT parameters

and automated IRAT format generation needed asinput for creating CDD. We are now no longer

dependent on common tools which are frustrat-ingly time consuming.” This is ex actly what Aexio’s

engineers had in mind when they developed XeusPro- a single desktop platform that reduced

manual work and dependency on multiple tools.(What was usually done manually, or dependent

on several dierent tools for their daily engineer-ing needs, are now reduced to just a few clicks in

Xeus Pro.)

Other Xeus Pro features that enrich the optimiza-

tion process for Nawras’ engineers include itsintegration with Google Earth. This feature aids

the optimization team in analyzing cell parame-ters with respect to geographical location and

clutter and provides them with a better under-standing of the geographical topology alongside

site details.

Xeus Pro was also utilized in analyzing and plot-ting drive test log-les as well as scanner data for

dierent requirements. With its smart analysesand fault nding features combined with crucial

network data presented in the same tool, engi-neers were able to analyze QoS issues and recom-

mend corrective actions extremely rapidly. .
