Dear business parners and employees,As A.EN.’s Chairman of the Board of Directors I would like to express my deepest gratitude for your cooperation. Over the last years we have success-fully completed several projects, which would be impossible to achieve without team effort. We have strengthened our position on the electricity market, commenced the construction of the Nitra Municipal Plant project, launched the ecological fuel segmet Ecocen, and, what I am particularly pleased about and consider to be one of the milestones in the his-torical development of A.EN. Group, we have suc-cessfully completed the acquisition of the company Probugas a.s., which has made us the number one producer of canistered gas in Slovakia as well as a major player on the market with alternative fuels such as LPG and CNG.
I would like to assure you that A.EN. Group will keep placing emphasis on the correct relations with its employees and partners as well as with its custom-ers since good company culture and the fulfilment of commitments are one of the pillars of our success.

You have been with A.EN. Group from the very beginning. Why did you decide to enter the electricity trade?
Historically, it is connected with the fact that one always begins with things he or she is already famil-iar with. We are a group of people who have coop-erated in the power engineering industry before not only in Slovakia, but also in other markets like Poland, Germany or Eastern Europe. That’s why, on the basis of our experience and positive mutual chemistry, we founded the company A.EN.
So initially it was only the electricity trade?
Basically yes. The legislation in Slovakia did not enable a dynamic development of the trade with electrical energy but despite this fact we success-fully entered the markets in Slovakia, Poland and Germany. It is always true that whoever enters a market first, has a slightly better opportunity to build relations and a good reputation, which is something we benefit from also today. From the beginning our priorities have been the fulfilment of our commitments – both financial and com-mercial – and the effort to help our clients solve their problems.
So company culture and customer rela-tions play an important role in A.EN. Group?
They most certainly do. One of our principles is being people-oriented, be it our customers, staff or business partners.
How many people were involved in the beginning of the company’s history and how many people does A.EN. Group employ today?
At first, when we decided to leave for Germany and set up A.EN., there were three of us. That made all of us directors (laughter). One manag-ing, one sales and one financial director. I was in charge of the sales. Gradually, A.EN. Invent has transformed into a group that today includes 11 companies and has more than 100 employees.
Why did you decide to leave specifically for Germany?
A simple fact – one goes to a place with the best conditions or to a place with the most developed market. As I’ve already mentioned, in Slovakia the market was not developed, neither from the legis-lative nor from the business point of view. At the time, in the years 2000, 2001, the German market was liberalized and, therefore, enabled new play-ers to enter it. However, the reason for founding our company in Germany was the opening of the electricity exchange, which, nevertheless, does not mean we wanted to focus only on the German market. Thanks to our familiarity with the Central European region, we had valuable contacts and partners at our disposal who were able to supply electrical energy to us, which we imported to Germany from Slovakia via the Czech Republic, or directly from Poland. Our advantage was the fact that we did not focus on one market and we were able to make use of the synergistic effects between Germany and Eastern Europe.
In 2008 the world was hit by a financial crisis which also affected the energy sec-tor. Did it also affect AEN?
It definitely did, in that year we had some busi-ness projects that failed and the company’s financial results were negatively affected. But the following year 2009 was our strongest one regarding the turnover. On the other hand, the crisis made us consider what else we could do dif-ferently. We definitely wanted to embark on more palpable projects, not to remain only in the busi-ness sphere, but to break into production as well. Strategically, we therefore decided to develop our own production sources of heat or electrical energy, or, to put it differently, not to focus only on business but to expand our product portfolio.
Your company’s activities have mainly an ecological focus. Is it connected with the fact that A.EN. Group operates in Germany?
The fact that we operate in Germany gives us sufficient space and an overview when it comes
to using ecological sources. In that country we have witnessed that these things are possible and therefore we are trying to apply the same approach in Slovakia, be it in the form of the small hydroelectric power plant in Lisková or the Katarína Eco Turbine in Zvolen.
In 2014 you purchased the leader of the LPG business on the Slovak market –– Probugas. Why?
As I’ve already mentioned, the aim of A.EN. Group is to provide a complete service regarding energy supplies and a certain, albeit tiny, number of Slovak inhabitants uses propane butane gas, which a majority of us is no longer familiar with. Today propane butane is used to a lesser extent than in the past, but there is still some demand for it, and this product neatly fits into our portfo-lio. Not to mention the fact that Probugas has approximately 2,400 points of sale, which, of course, appealed to us very much, and through this network we would like to sell other products as well.
Is A.EN. Group active in any other areas apart from heat production industry, gas industry and electricity production and retail?
It´s necessary to mention that today the client also buys commodities other than just electrical energy and heat, and our ambition is to offer the end consumer the advantage of a wider choice of products from a single company. For this reason we have decided to enter retail where we offer not only electrical energy and gas, but thanks to the company Ecoen also ecological fuels - wood pellets and briquettes.
wood pellets and briquettes? How did you get involved in wood trade?
It fits our range of products perfectly. Not only in Slovakia but also abroad, there are many households and factories which use wood pellets and briquettes as fuel. For this reason and and because Probugas has a very dense sales network we have decided to build a state-of-the-art wood
pellet production line in Martin under the aus-pices of the company Ecoen, whose products are of the highest quality.
Where do you see A.EN. Group in 5 to 10 years from now how should it develop further?
Today, the company Probugas is active in the production and sale of electrical energy, heat production industry, gas industry and wood fuels, which makes it absolutely unique on the Slovak market. I’d be pleased if it stabilised in the future. Recently we have participated in a number of larger acquisitions and the processes have to be adjusted in such a way that the companies communicate between each other and operate ef-fectively. In addition, I’d be pleased if in the future A.EN. Group focused on the area of transport. We see a great potential in alternative fuels for LPG, CNG and electricity-powered automobiles, and I would be very happy if in the future A.EN. Group was an active player in this area. At the same time we would like to launch the construction of other renewable sources of energy, especially the construction or acquisition of small hydroelectric power plants.

The Nitra Municipal Power Plant as the main investor in the projects believes that by operat-ing its power plants it will achieve a decrease in and stabilization of heat production costs for the inhabitants of the City of Nitra, it will support the stability of the transmission network within and in the vicinity of the city, and, by installing the best technologies available in this segment, it will contribute to the decrease in the amount of emissions and, consequently, to the protection of the environment.
The Nitra project company “Mestská elektráreň Nitra, a.s.” (Nitra Municipal Power Plant, Inc.) with the 100% ownership interest of A.En. Slov-ensko s.r.o. was established in 2008 with the clear aim of constructing and subsequently operating combined high-efficiency electricity and heat generating sources.
The process of the realization of the large Nitra Cogeneration Power Plant project commenced in August 2014. The proposed site for the new energy source is situated in a built-up area of the City of Nitra, on the south-western outskirts of the urban district of Chrenová, on the existing site of the Nitra Central Heat Generating Source. The new source was constructed with the aim of supporting the Slovak transmission network and also of using waste heat generated by the equip-ment in order to heat service water in residential houses and public facilities located in the con-nected housing estates in Nitra.
At present “Mestská elektráreň Nitra, a.s.” (the Nitra Municipal Power Plant, Inc.) operates two independent power plants:
→ The Nitra Cogeneration Power Plant
→ “BSP ČOV Nitra” (the Nitra Sewage

Apart from the main project, in 2013 the Nitra Municipal Power Plant realized the Reconstruc-tion of Energy and Gas Management at the Sewage Treatment Plant project in Nitra – the installation of a cogeneration unit utilizing biogas as a fuel for the production of heat and electricity. The aim of the project consists in an effective uti-lization of energy of the entire amount of biogas produced as a byproduct of sewage treatment. Biogas will be burnt in the new cogeneration unit which will produce electricity and heat and, thereby, will utilize, to the maximum extent possi-ble, the energy potential of biogas. The generated electricity and heat will be utilized directly on the production site, i.e. on the premises of the sewage treatment plant, which will enable to lower the operator’s costs.

In pursuit of the fulfilment of the goals and strat-egy of A.EN. Group with regards to the construc-tion of renewable sources of energy, our long-term plan involves the construction of a small hydroelectric power plant “MVE Lisková”. A more efficient utilization of the hydro-energen-tic potential as the most significant renewable source of energy is one of the EU strategies. Ac-cording to the EU directive regarding the support for electric power produced from renewable sources, member states are supposed to achieve a 22.1 % indicative share of energy produced from renewable sources out of the total amount of the electric power produced.
According to the ´The Strategy for the Utilization of Renewable Sources of Energy´ approved by the government of the Slovak Republic in 2003, the development of renewable sources is one of the Slovak government´s priorities. The proposal of the energy policy of the Slovak Republic, debated and approved by the Slovak government at its meeting held on 11 January 2006, determines the fundamental goals and framework for the devel-opment of power engineering until the year 2030. This means that securing a sustainable economic
growth is conditioned by securing reliable sup-plies of energy at optimum costs, while ensuring an adequate environmental protection.
A.EN. Slovensko has been working on the realiza-tion of a hydraulic structure, a small hydroelectric power plant on the River Váh, in the cadastral area of Lisková, the district of Ružomberok. The project is now in the preparatory phase. Our com-pany via its general contractor has announced a tender for the provision of a feasibility study re-garding the hydraulic structure. According to the parameters of the rivercourse, it can be assumed that the capacity of the small hydroelectric power plant will be in the region of 1 MW. One of the benefits of the hydraulic structure will be not only a supply of clean electric power from a renewable source, but also the migration of aquatic animals, especially fish, thanks to the construction of a modern fish ladder. The project will also involve a higher degree of flood protection. At the same time, we would like to build a construction which will be tastefully incorporated into the surround-ing environment, serving as a pleasant recrea-tional zone for people.
Lisková Project
The contractor of the Katarína 74 MW Eco Tur-bine project is the project company “Zvolenská ekologická spoločnosť, a.s.” (Zvolen Ecological Company, Inc.), whose majority shareholder is A.En. Slovensko, a.s.
The aim of the project is the construction, funding and operation of a new steam condensing turbine with the maximum capacity of 74 MW on the premises of “Zvolenská teplárenská, a.s., Sloven-sko” (Zvolen Heat Production Company Slovakia, Inc.; henceforth ZT) in the city of Zvolen.
The project is based on supplying the generated heat to Zvolen as well as on the production of electricity in the steam condensing turbine. The proposed solution is based on a series of busi-ness contracts concluded between the partner companies “Zvolenská ekologická spoločnosť, a.s.” (henceforth ZES) and ZT concerning the the construction of an electricity generating source, namely the condensing turbine “Katarína 74 MW Eco Turbine”, and subsequent supplies of heat for a period of 30 years. The most important benefit of this solution is that it enables the preservation of the original capacity of the source with all the
positive social impacts and, at the same time, extends investement risks to more corporate enti-ties and the state.
The entire technological solution is designed in such a way that the operation of the heating plant is capable of satisfying the demands for heat supplies to Zvolen in the volume of ca. 600,000 GJ for a reasonable price, using the newly-installed turbine, of ensuring electricity supply to the net-work by means of the existing connection of 110 kV, and, at the same time, of providing a transmis-sion system for the power engineering system of the SR. For the purpose of the construction of the turbine, a building permit has been issued and the project is in keeping with the energy policy of the Slovak Republic.
The aim of the project is an optimum utilization of the capacity of the Zvolen heating plant while improving its economic efficiency by increas-ing electricity production. At the same time, the project relies on the burning of biomass in the heat generating sources, which will have a posi-tive socio-economic and ecological impact on the whole Zvolen region.

Its head-quarters are situated in Bratislava, with additional places of business based in Martin and Haniska pri Košiciach. The company also owns a re-pump-ing station in Čierna nad Tisou. Furthermore, Probugas is one of the founding members of the Association of LPG Companies.
Probugas’s priority is to offer secure and quality products with a swift and problem-free distri-bution. The company distributes propane and propane-butane to households, companies and LPG gas stations in cylinders or bulks, which enables a wide variety of uses, such as heating, water heating, cooking, drying, barbecuing, other technological processes and, finally, fuelling cars and fork-lift trucks.
The reliability of supplies is guaranteed thanks to the diversified sources of LPG purchase and the company owns a re-pumping station which ena-bles the pumping of LPG from the Russian Federa-tion. The company also takes pride in the high level of its services - it regularly introduces inno-vative solutions for improving customer services and systematically and thoroughly raises public awareness about the safe manipulation with gas and about the eco-friendliness of propane.
Probugas, with its vision of becoming the Central European leader on the LPG market, intends to continue to provide quality services and supply-ing quality gas, but most importantly to adhere to all rules for conducting business in accordance with the valid legislation. The company continu-ally makes investments and searches for new uses of LPG since it believes that propane as a fuel is an ecologically clean and promising source of energy.

Distribution and Produc-tion of Heat
OPM 2 SR s.r.oTeplico s.r.o
Heat Production Industry
Heat production is a segment closely con-nected with other A.EN. Group’s activities. In Turčianske Teplice the company Teplico operates a municipal heating plant which supplies heat to more than 1,000 residential and non-residential premises, and since 2008 A.EN. Group has been operating the Central Heat Generating Source in Nitra with the total output of 35 MW.

In 2008 the acquisition of the OPM 2 SR heating plant as a subsidiary of A.EN. Slovensko, took place. The company is based in Nitra and its role is to operate the Central Heat Generating Source (CHGS) in Chrenová.
The CHGS consists of 4 boilers with the total installed output of 34.36 MW, thanks to which OPM 2 SR, s.r.o. is capable of supplying heat and hot service water to the entire urban district of Chrenová. The total annual volume of the produced heat constitutes approximately 170,000 GJ. All the operated devices are subject to regular inspections which guarantee their functionality, reliability and a high level of annual availability.
OPM 2 SR, s.r.o. has set itself clear pririties:
Self-sufficiency
It burns local natural gas which is extracted in the vicinity of 11.5 kms from the CHGS, by which it partially contributes to a lower reliance of the Slo-vak Republic on natural gas imports from abroad.
Economy
The operation achieves an average annual ef-fectiveness in heat production above the set limit of effectiveness thanks to a regular maintenance carried out by our qualified staff.
Environment
The burning of natural gas for heat production produces a smaller amount of CO2 greenhouse gas in comparison with the burning of coal as a result of a smaller emission factor, and, practically, no solid pollutants such as fly ash are produced.
Reliability
On the basis of the quality standards assessment, it reaches 100% reliability and quality regarding heat supplies to consumers.
At present, OPM 2 SR, is trying to launch heat production in cooperation with the Nitra Municipal Power Plant, Inc., which operates the Cogeneration Power Plant with combined high-efficiency electricity and heat production. This cooperation should lead to a decrease in operat-ing costs of the primary energy sources and also to a decrease in the prices of heat for consumers.

In 2013 A.EN. Group expanded due to the acquisi-tion of a business share in the company TEPLICO s.r.o., in which the Town of Turčianske Teplice is a business partner. Its activity involves the produc-tion of heat and hot water as well as residential and commercial property management in the Town of Turčianske Teplice. As much as 96% of Teplico’s income comes from the production and supplies of heat and hot water.
While in the 1990s at its production facilities Teplico produced approximately 14 GWh of heat per year, currently, it produces around 7 – 8 GWh per year. This is caused by the fact that, currently, 98% of consumers’ flats are insulated and heat ad-justed. Simultaneously, the company modernized its heat generating sources in such a manner that today it produces heat not only in gas-fuelled hot water boilers, but also in condensing gas boilers. The company also operates a woodchip biomass-
Up until the 1990s, Teplico was only engaged in residential and commercial property management for its only customer, the Town of Turčianske Teplice. Due to the general interest expressed by tenants regarding the sale of council flats to personal owners, in the last decade part of the town’s residential property was sold into perso-nal ownership. In a majority of cases the sitting

The joint stock company Ecoen Slovakia is predo-minantly engaged in the production, processing and supply of plant biomass used for energy purposes. Ecoen Slovakia’s vision is to become the leader in this area in Slovakia.
The company’s basic activities involve the supply of energy woodchips and the clearance of woody plants resulting from natural seeding. However, the principal step in the fulfilment of the com-pany’s vision was the decision to embark on a pro-ject involving a wood pellet and briquette produc-tion line, which Ecoen Slovakia constructed and in 2015 put into operation, with the total production capacity of more than 13,000 tonnes per year.
The established cooperation with other companies from the group predestines Ecoen to become the leader on the regional market with pellets and briquettes. The ongoing projects of the reconstruc-tion of older boiler houses into boiler houses utili-zing wood pellets and energy woodchips guarantee a long-term perspective and sustainability of this position. A significant role in the fulfilment of this position is also played by the intended export to foreign markets.
