AdvOSS Service ControlAAA Server

0 AdvOSS AAA Server is required by any communications service providers such as Telecoms, wired and wireless broadband providers in 3G, 4G, LTE or other technologies. It is needed to provide a real-time interface between service delivery functions and core functions like B/OSS, policy, rating, charging, service management and subscriber management.

AdvOSS Policy Server

Compliant with industry standard functionality specified by olicy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF)

It is at the heart of any modern day service provider’s core network and allows to define rules that govern the way services are delivered and charged

Page 13: AdvOSS Service Control

Policy Management

AdvOSS Policy Server includes a rule based engine along with options for:0Bandwidth Management0QoS Management0Charging Management0Advanced Rule Based Actions

Page 14: AdvOSS Service Control

Quotas

0AdvOSS Policy Server also includes a quota manager that allows counting of usage by individual subscribers.

0Allows to fulfill many important use cases.

Page 15: AdvOSS Service Control

Volume CapsAdvOSS PCRF allows a Service Provider to create subscriptions that have bundled volume caps e.g.

01MB-10GB

01MB-Unlimited volume

Page 16: AdvOSS Service Control

Fair-UsageAdvOSS PCRF allows a service provider to define fair-usage policies. Once a user goes beyond its usage threshold(s), fair-usage actions can kick-on. They may be:0Bandwidth throttling0Start of Charging0Service Denial

Page 17: AdvOSS Service Control

Fair-Usage0Bandwidth throttling

Page 18: AdvOSS Service Control

Page 20: AdvOSS Service Control

Time Based Quotas

AdvOSS PCRF allows to define time based packages where the usage is only counted during specific periods of the day allowing defining of packages like:1MB – 5GB with unlimited usage from 2:00am to 8:00am

Page 21: AdvOSS Service Control

Advanced Quotas

AdvOSS PCRF allows defining very advanced quotas through counter matching algorithms e.g. 0Quotas for roaming only0Quotas for a specific

access method like Wi-Fi0Quotas for a specific AAA

Realm

Mid-Service Alerts

A Service Provider can interrupt the service and push mid-service alerts from time to time. This may be for payment reminders, policy notices, advice of charge, advertisements or other reasons.

Page 24: AdvOSS Service Control

Advanced Actions

PCRF allows many advanced actions based on rules evaluation including:0Customized Notifications0Lawful Intercept0Different Regulatory requirements0Captive Portals0Network Provisioning

Other use cases

Many more use cases can be realized over a PCRF solution. Some of them can be found at http://advoss.com/pcrf-business-usecases.html

Page 32: AdvOSS Service Control

DPI Use Cases

In conjunction with a DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) engine, AdvOSS PCRF offers control of individual application flows offering:0Flow Based Control0Application Based QoS Assurance

Page 33: AdvOSS Service Control

Advanced QoS Management

If the Enforcement layer supports more granular QoS control, then AdvOSS PCRF can be configured to control QoS parameters for the full pipe or individual flows. Main QoS parameters include:0Maximum Bit Rate (MBR)0Guaranteed Bit Rate (GBR)0Allocation Retention Policy (APR)

Page 34: AdvOSS Service Control

Diameter Interface

AdvOSS PCRF is fully diameter compliant and offer standard 3GPP interfaces for Diameter protocol including:0Gx0Rx0Ud (immediate roadmap)0Rx+ (roadmap)

Page 35: AdvOSS Service Control

AdvOSS Service ControlHSS (Home Subscriber Server)

0 AdvOSS HSS is required by any communications service providers such as Telecoms, wired and wireless broadband providers in 3G, 4G, LTE or other technologies as the centralized data repository. It stores subscribers identities and subscription data about all subscribers and their service offerings. It is also required to keep track of service add-ons and their subscriptions by individual subscribers. It serves service profiles to Application servers or policy enforcement points.

Scalability

0 AdvOSS uses the following technologies and architectures to achieve Scalability0 Dispatcher/Server Model0 Layers of Dispatching0 Replication

Dispatcher/Server Model

Page 41: AdvOSS Service Control

AdvOSS SolutionScalability

0 AAA Server is composed of a front-end protocol dispatcher/load balancer that acts as a proxy for all NAS clients.

0 The Dispatcher load balances the traffic to AAA applications instances spread across multiple CPU cores

0 Each instance of Dispatcher is capable of handling up to 2000 AAA requests per second for RADIUS/DIAMETER protocol whereas a single instance of AAA Application running on one CPU core is capable of handling a minimum of 80 TPS.

Page 42: AdvOSS Service Control

AdvOSS SolutionScalability: Upgrade path to 20K TPS and beyond

Scalability to 20k TPS and beyond can be achieved by:

0 Adding additional Dispatchers running on new Hardware

0Running AAA applications spread across multiple CPU cores behind additional dispatchers

0Adding an additional layer of Dispatching as shown in the following slide

Page 43: AdvOSS Service Control

Scalability: Upgrade path to 20K TPS and beyond0 Layers of Dispatching: For large scale Operators extra layer of dispatching can

be added

Page 44: AdvOSS Service Control

AdvOSS SolutionsKey Technology Benefits

Database Scalability

0 Replication: AdvOSS database designs separate the OLTP Servers where all writing of new data is going on from the OLAP Servers where all heavy reads and analytical processing is going on. This provides almost limitless scalability as it is possible to put more and more servers all getting a copy of data in real-time where heavier processing can be done without effecting the master Transaction Processing Servers.

Page 45: AdvOSS Service Control

AdvOSS SolutionsKey Technology Benefits

Heterogeneous Databases

0 Replication between Heterogeneous Databases: AdvOSS uses advanced database replication middleware to synchronize data between different types of databases e.g. from MySQL to Oracle in real-time.

Page 46: AdvOSS Service Control

AdvOSS SolutionsKey Technology Benefits

RedundancyAdvOSS uses different technologies in combination to achieve redundancy in the systemStorage Redundancy: All databases are redundant and use advanced multi-master replication techniques to keep up to date with each other.

Computation Redundancy0 Database

Multi-Master replication offers computation redundancy as well. Processing can be switched to secondary servers in real-time without loss of continuity.

0 Switching and AAAAll Switching and AAA architectures work on a dispatcher / Serving node architecture. Dispatcher does real-time load balancing among all Serving Nodes. If any Serving node goes down, processing carries on through other available nodes.

Page 47: AdvOSS Service Control

AdvOSS SolutionsKey Technology Benefits

Disaster Recovery

The System can be deployed in geographically distant data centers, for disaster recovery reasons. Using the DR setup, existing services realized through AdvOSS Solution deployed at main site can keep on working in the case of a disaster that makes primary solution unavailable for any reason.
