    Lindsay Chafn1998-2012

Tell us about your family: My husband Andrew and I will be married 10 yrs. this coming July. We hve a 2 year old boy named Elliot who keeps us both very

What positions have you held at Hy-Vee? I started working in the kitchen as a closer. After I graduated high school I worked all different shifts in the kitchen as well as checking and carrying grocer-ies out for the customers. Now I am a full time kitchen specialist. What do you like about working at Hy-Vee: The sense of family I get. I started when I was 16 years old. Most everyone that has worked here has seen me grow up and Ive seen them grow with me. Its a nice feeling of trust and loyalty a per-son gets. Plus, everyone here has fun and makes it fun to come here and do the best job you can.Tell us something about you that most people dont know: I am scared to death of heights. Cant even get me on a ferris wheel. Im afraid to y, I did it once and I wont do it again unless I have to.What is your favorite movie? Forrest Gum, Legends of the Fall & Cocktail.Whats your favorite part about work-ing at Hy-Vee? To treat them fairly and with friendliness. I pride myself in mak-ing the customer WANT to come back because of how they were treated when they shopped here for the rst time or the 100th time. When I can great a cus-tomer by name when I see them then I know Ive made them feel like this place is where they can shop and be treated like a friend.

    Even in cold weather, drought

    affecting DMU wells

    by Gordon Wolf

    Last summer, extremely high

    tempera-

tures and a lack of rain for

    ced Denison

    Municipal Utilities (DMU)

    to ask cus-

    tomers to voluntarily cons

    erve water,

    using measures such as n

    ot watering

    lawns, washing only full loa

    ds of cloth-

ing and dishes and not wash

    ing vehicles

at home. In the fall, DMU rela

    xed the lawn

    watering conservation req

    uest so cus-

    tomers could repair lawns th

    at had been

    damaged by the drought.

    The weather has turned cold

    and de-

mand for water is less than in

    the summer

    months, but DMU officials

    continue to

    monitor the water levels in

    the 11 wells

    north of the community.

    At DMUs annual business

    spotlight

    luncheon Friday at Cronks C

    af, General

    Manager Mark Ramthun said

    it is normal

for the water level in the wells

    to decrease

    during peak demand months

    in the spring

    and summer. Under norma

    l conditions,

the level rises with rain in t

    he fall, snow

in the winter and rain in th

    e spring. But

the fall did not bring norma

    l weather.

    Unfortunately, because of no

    rain in the

fall and no snow yet in the wi

    nter, the well

levels are low and are actual

    ly still drop-

ping a little bit every day, R

    amthun stat-

ed at the event, which was

    attended by

    representatives of communit

    y businesses.

    Ramthun said DMU may be

    looking at

    some conservation efforts

    in the early

    spring, even before the arriv

    al of high de-

    mand months for water. He

    commented

    that DMU would provide m

    ore informa-

tion about this in the future.

    In the meantime, DMU officia

    ls, and by

    extension their customers, h

    ope for pre-

    cipitation in the coming mon

    ths.

We hope it snows in the w

    inter and

rains in the spring so we w

    ont have to

    worry about that (conservatio

    n efforts),

    Ramthun stated. We have to

    have water,

so we may be doing some

    things with

    conservation.

The good news is that DMU

    will not in-

crease water rates in 2013, ba

    sed on pro-

    jections of costs and revenues

    . DMU is an-

    ticipating the construction of

    an addition-

al large water tower in the

    future to im-

    prove service to customers i

    n the south-

    east sector of its territory.

    Wastewater rates, howeve

    r, will in-

    crease by 10 percent beginn

    ing on Janu-

    ary 1, 2013.
