Congratulations on the homecoming of the Libertad.We stand with you in your struggle to stop

Argentina’s economy being held to ransom by a small handful of wealthy speculators – so-called ‘vulture funds.’

As we face a continuing debt crisis in Europe, we are conscious that Argentina today could be Europe tomorrow.

The ‘vulture funds’ never lent money to Argentina. They speculated on your crisis, buying debt in the hope your country would pay them off rather than fight for justice. They took that risk and they lost – this should be the end of the matter.

What’s more, we believe that many of Argentina’s debts are odious – having been recycled since the time of the brutal military junta. Argentina has always had a strong moral and legal case for non-repayment. That’s why we also call on the UK government to cancel the debts it still claims of Argentina, for having sold your country arms and military equipment during the dictatorship.

The next stage in this long battle is the New York appeal hearing on 27 February. On the eve of this date we will demonstrate in London to:

Support Argentina’s right to refuse payment •to the vulture fundsCondemn the decision of the New York Court •which implied that the payment of vulture funds supersedes a state’s right to protect its peopleSupport a public debt audit in Argentina to •ascertain the extent of illegitimate debt

In the name of our thousands of supporters across the UK, and to put it another way, we say to the vultures: ‘CLAWS OFF!’

Al pueblo argentino

Felicidades por el regreso al hogar de la Libertad.Estamos junto a ustedes en la lucha contra el chantaje a la

economía argentina por parte de un puñado de inescrupulosos especuladores, llamados, por tal motivo, ‘fondos buitre’.

En Europa, donde enfrentamos una profunda y continua crisis de deuda, somos conscientes de que lo que las garras buitres hacen contra Argentina hoy, pueden hacerlo contra nosotros mañana.

Los fondos buitre nunca le prestaron dinero a Argentina; especularon con su crisis comprándole bonos de deuda con la esperanza de que este país les pague en lugar de proteger los derechos de su pueblo. Asumieron ese riesgo y perdieron. Y así debería finalizar el asunto.

Además, creemos que muchas de las deudas argentinas pueden ser categorizadas de odiosas, ya que fueron contraídas durante la brutal dictadura militar. Este es un fuerte argumento moral y legal para el no pago de las mismas. Por eso también luchamos para que el Reino Unido no le cobre a la Argentina, las deudas que reclama por haberle vendido armas y equipo militar durante la dictadura.
