ADVENTURE TIME

“LADIES NIGHT” FADE IN: EXT. CANDY KINGDOM CASTLE – NIGHT PUSH IN on one tower with light shining in the window, and cut to... INT. BANANA GUARDS’ ROOM – CONTINUOUS PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM, wearing her pajamas, sits on a stool at the center of the long room with an open book on her lap. She is reading a bedtime story to her Banana Guards. The guards are each resting in about a dozen beds lined up against the walls along either side of her.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM ...So the theoretical stability of the particle suggests that further research is not only warranted but justified! The end!

Princess Bubblegum closes the book with a smile and stands up. All of her Banana Guards are slumbering peacefully now. She turns to leave when suddenly a note wrapped around a piece of rock candy <CRASHES> through the window next to her. Princess Bubblegum just manages to catch the note with her free hand. She puts her book under her arm and unfolds the note to read it. CLOSE ON PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM Whoa...what’s this?

CUT TO:

EXT. FIRE KINGDOM CASTLE – NIGHT PUSH IN on Fire Kingdom Castle. And cut to... INT. FIRE KINGDOM CASTLE - CONTINUOUS

FLAME PRINCESS, wearing her pajamas, is sitting on her throne going over some royal decrees. Suddenly, there is a burst of magic above her, and a note wrapped around a chunk of rock candy (and surrounded by the blue aura of flame protection) falls from the air and hits her on the head.

FLAME PRINCESS OW! What was that?

Flame Princess puts aside her decrees and unfolds the note. CLOSE ON FLAME PRINCESS

FLAME PRINCESS (reading)

Your friend Finn has been kidnapped...

CUT TO:

EXT. A LARGE TREE IN THE LAND OF OOO – NIGHT PUSH IN on MARCELINE sitting on top of the tree. She is wearing jeans and a purple sweater. In one of her hands is an apple she has drunk the red from, and in her other hand is a familiar-looking note and a chunk of rock candy. CLOSE ON MARCELINE

MARCELINE (reading)

...He is being held in the Candy Caves on the far outskirts of the Candy Kingdom and guarded by...

(raises an eyebrow) ...a monster in the Ice Cream Cavern...?

CUT TO:

EXT. LUMPY SPACE CASTLE – NIGHT PUSH IN on a window showing a faint light in Lumpy Space Castle, and cut to... INT. LUMPY SPACE CASTLE - CONTINUOUS

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS is floating above her bed with her glowing cellphone in one hand and a familiar-looking note in her other hand. A piece of rock candy sits on her bed.

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS (reading, dramatically)

...He’ll be eaten unless you save him! Ermyglob!

CUT TO:

INT. BANANA GUARDS’ ROOM – NIGHT Princess Bubblegum is still reading her own note.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM (reading)

...Come alone or else! Hmm... Princess Bubblegum looks up in thought for a beat.

WIPE TO:

INT. ICE CREAM CAVERN IN THE CANDY CAVES – NIGHT CLOSE ON FINN FINN is tied up and leaning against a rock candy boulder. From o.s. a small scoop of ice cream flies at him and hits his cheek. He blinks a few times and then wakes up.

FINN Huh...what?

FINN’S POV: THE ICE CREAM CAVERN PAN the inside of the Ice Cream Cavern. In the moonlight shining down through a few cracks in the cave ceiling Finn can make out several large mounds of ice cream surrounding him. Suddenly, he sees a figure moving in the shadows. ANGLE ON FINN

FINN (scowls, struggles)

Hey! Are you the one who brought me here? Show yourself!

FINN’S POV: THE SHADOWY FIGURE The shadowy figure comes forward, revealing himself to be ICE KING. Ice King smiles and holds up his hands.

ICE KING Hey now, calm down, Finn. No need to get upset. We’re buddies, right? Want some ice cream? It’s pretty good.

ANGLE ON FINN AND ICE KING Ice King uses his powers to levitate a scoop of ice cream forward, which he tries to feed Finn.

ICE KING Come on, eat up so you’ll be big and strong. Open the hatch for the flying...ice cream...airship-thingy.

Ice King continues gently pressing the scoop of ice cream near Finn’s mouth with a smile on his face while Finn just looks forward dryly. ANGLE ON FINN

FINN (sighs deeply)

This is going to be a long night, isn’t it?

WIPE TO:

EXT. CANDY CAVES ENTRANCE – NIGHT Princess Bubblegum enters from o.s. wearing pink pants, a pink shirt, and hiking boots as well as a backpack and a glowing GPS watch. She sees a glow like a fire and approaches it. The glow turns out to be Flame Princess (in her usual dress) standing near the cave entrance.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM Phoebe? What are you doing here?

ANGLE ON FLAME PRINCESS

FLAME PRINCESS (turns to her)

Oh, hey, PB. I got this weird note about Finn being kidnapped.

(holds up her note) It said to come here to save him...but it also said to come alone. What are you doing here?

ANGLE ON PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM AND FLAME PRINCESS Princess Bubblegum reaches into her backpack and pulls out her copy of the note.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM I got the same note. Hmm...I wonder if that means anyone else-

Suddenly Lumpy Space Princess flies down toward them from o.s., holding her glowing cellphone in one hand and her copy of the note in the other.

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS Oh my lumps, oh my flipping lumps! Finn, I’m coming for you! I’ll do whatever I can to let my lumps save you!

Lumpy Space Princess’s cellphone <RINGS>. She stops flying forward and answers it.

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS Jessica, I told you, don’t call me right now! I’m in the middle of a crisis! Ugh, I don’t care what Brad said about my lumps, Finn’s in—oh, wait, Brad said that about my lumps? Really?

Princess Bubblegum reaches up and closes Lumpy Space Princess’s cellphone, ending her call.

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS Hey!

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM LSP, what are you doing here?

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS

Ugh, well I was just talking to Jessica about what Brad thinks of my lumps before you interrupted me, Bubblegum. And the reason I’m out here doing it is because...

(gasps, dramatically) Oh my Glob, I almost forgot, Finn needs me! Finn, I’m coming!

Lumpy Space Princess starts flying toward the cave entrance.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM Wait! You mean you got a note about Finn being kidnapped too?

Lumpy Space Princess stops flying forward. She turns to her and nods, then pulls her note out of her lumps.

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS (raises eyebrow)

Uh, yeah. Wait, you all got notes too?

FULL ON ALL THREE PRINCESSES

Princess Bubblegum and Flame Princess hold up their notes and nod. Lumpy Space Princess throws her arms up in the air.

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS What in the flipping lumps of lumpy space is going on here?!

Marceline flies down from o.s. She lands in the middle of the three princesses and shrugs with a smile.

MARCELINE You got me.

(holds up her copy of the note)

I got a note about Finn too. Weird, huh?

The three princesses nod.

FLAME PRINCESS So, should we still go in? It could be a trap. As long as all of us are here anyway, maybe I should send for my fire soldier army to back us up. My kingdom’s the closest.

Princess Bubblegum steps forward, punching some data into her GPS watch.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM That shouldn’t be necessary. I’m calculating the danger as minimal. And my watch should be able to approximate the entrance to the Ice Cream Cavern easily for us. Come on.

Princess Bubblegum puts away her note and starts heading into the cave. ANGLE ON MARCELINE AS PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM WALKS PAST HER

MARCELINE (sighs, dryly)

Okay, I guess Bubblegum is leading the way then.

Marceline shrugs and puts away her note, then floats after Princess Bubblegum into the cave. ANGLE ON FLAME PRINCESS AND LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS Lumpy Space Princess and Flame Princess just look at each other and shrug. Then they put away their notes and head into the cave too.

CUT TO:

INT. CANDY CAVES – CONTINUOUS The four girls walk forward in a line. Princess Bubblegum leads followed by Marceline floating behind her followed by

Lumpy Space Princess floating behind her followed by Flame Princess walking at the end. The cave has multicolored walls made of rock candy and some soda pop stalactites hanging from the ceiling. Princess Bubblegum’s GPS watch emits a light to guide her, Lumpy Space Princess uses the light of her phone to see things, and Flame Princess’s glow provides some general illumination around the party. Princess Bubblegum is still looking down at her watch.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM So...other than all of this bananas-crazy kidnapping stuff, everyone else having a good night?

Lumpy Space Princess plays with her phone, scowling in frustration.

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS

Ugh, it’d be better if I could get any lumping reception down here.

FLAME PRINCESS

It’s been okay, I guess. I was drafting some decrees about making minor changes to our government infrastructure. A leader’s work is never done. You were probably stuck doing the same thing, huh, Bubblegum?

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM

(clears her throat) Yeah...something like that.

MARCELINE

(shrugs) I was just trying to have a snack.

ANGLE ON PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM AND MARCELINE Marceline pulls a red apple out of her pocket and bites it. The red color drains from the fruit, leaving it white. She holds the white apple out to Princess Bubblegum and smirks.

MARCELINE Want the rest? You used to love it.

Princess Bubblegum <SIGHS> and scowls a little. She pushes away the apple and then intensifies her focus on her GPS watch.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM Marceline, not now. Come on, we have to keep moving. I’m starting to lose my signal down here.

Marceline just <SIGHS> and rolls her eyes, then tosses the apple away. FULL ON ALL FOUR GIRLS

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS Ugh, I’m freezing my lumps off in here! Seriously!

FLAME PRINCESS

(smiles) Oh, here, let me turn up my flame. That should help you.

Flame Princess concentrates, causing her flame to grow significantly. As the bright light hits Marceline, she <HISSES> and flies forward to hide behind Princess Bubblegum.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM (startled)

Whoa! Princess Bubblegum, Marceline still clinging to her, falls backwards into Lumpy Space Princess. Flame Princess <GASPS> and goes forward to help them, which only causes more light to hit Marceline. Marceline <HISSES> again, and her features become demon-like. Flame Princess scowls, and her features become demon-like too as she holds up a fireball. Lumpy Space Princess covers her eyes with her hands.

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS Oh my Glob, I can’t watch! Somebody tell me when it’s over!

Princess Bubblegum stands up in the middle of everyone.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM (scowling, angrily)

In the name of the Candy Kingdom, that is enough! Marceline, get in back! Flame Princess, tone down the light! LSP, stand behind Flame Princess so you can get warm from her glow. Now let’s keep moving!

FULL ON ALL FOUR GIRLS Princess Bubblegum starts heading forward again, focusing on her GPS watch. The other girls obey her instructions and follow after her—Flame Princess first, then Lumpy Space Princess, then Marceline floating at the rear.

MARCELINE (smirking)

I knew you couldn’t resist making yourself the leader, Bonnibel.

FLAME PRINCESS

(frowning) Yeah, way to be bossy as usual, Bubblegum. The sooner we can get out of here, the better.

ANGLE ON FLAME PRINCESS AND LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS

Ermahglob, Flame Princess, your hair is so lumpy. I love it.

FLAME PRINCESS

(blinks) Uh...thanks?

FULL ON ALL FOUR GIRLS

Lumpy Space Princess, eyes wide, reaches out to touch Flame Princess’s hair, then pulls back.

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS Ow.

Lumpy Space Princess reaches out to touch her hair again, then says <OW> and pulls back again. She repeats this

action several times in a row while Flame Princess just ignores her. ANGLE ON PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM Meanwhile, Princess Bubblegum scowls in frustration until she finally just can’t take it anymore.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM (annoyed)

LSP, will you PLEASE just—oh! Princess Bubblegum stops walking. She has hit a dead end. She looks down at her watch. FULL ON ALL FOUR GIRLS

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM It looks like the Ice Cream Cavern is dead ahead, but there’s no way forward. I don’t understand, my scans show there should be a clear way past this point. Maybe—AH!

Suddenly the ground gives out beneath all four girls, and they fall into an underground section of the cave.

CUT TO:

INT. CANDY CAVE UNDERGROUND PASSAGE – CONTINUOUS The girls all stand up, <COUGHING> and dusting themselves off. They are now in a lower section of the Candy Caves, similar in appearance to the upper tunnel but more cramped.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM Is everyone all right?

All of the girls nod.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM Good. Now come on. My watch isn’t getting a signal at all anymore, but the Ice Cream Cavern is definitely straight ahead. We can use this passage to get there.

Princess Bubblegum starts heading forward, using her watch’s light to lead the way. The other three girls follow. Suddenly, the group comes upon a place where the cave splits off into many different smaller cave openings. ANGLE ON MARCELINE Marceline flies over to a cave mouth with ice around it.

MARCELINE This is the coldest cave, and I’m getting a whiff of strawberry ice cream red from this direction. Let’s just go down here and find this ‘monster’ already so that we can go home!

ANGLE ON LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS

Lumpy Space Princess flies over to a cave with a lot of jawbreakers wedged in the rock candy of its mouth.

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS Uh, I don’t know, you guys. This cave looks the lumpiest. If I were a monster, I would totally live down here.

ANGLE ON FLAME PRINCESS Flame Princess approaches the most sinister-looking cave: there are many soda pop stalactites all around the mouth that look like teeth.

FLAME PRINCESS This cave looks the most dangerous. If we’re going to find a monster, it’ll probably be down here. I say we just plow on until we find Finn, and destroy anything that tries to stop us.

ANGLE ON PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM Princess Bubblegum, looking down at her watch, approaches the mouth of an average-looking cave.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM The last reading I got from my GPS pointed forward and in this general direction. We’ll head down here. Scientifically speaking, this cave is our best chance of finding Finn.

FULL ON ALL FOUR GIRLS Flame Princess, Marceline, and Lumpy Space Princess all scowl and RAISE THEIR VOICES as they start to fight with each other.

FLAME PRINCESS Yeah, well...speaking from adventure-experience, my way is the best way!

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS

My way is so flipping lumpy!!! I won’t abandon your sweet lumps, cave! Not like how Brad abandoned mine!

MARCELINE

Guys, I am telling you, I smell the red of strawberry ice cream this way! This cave is the right one!

ANGLE ON FLAME PRINCESS AND MARCELINE

FLAME PRINCESS

That cave looks like it’s freezing, Marceline! I get that you don’t like my glow, but I won’t risk going out entirely by following orders from you.

MARCELINE

Hey, I’m not the bossy one—Bubblegum is!

Lumpy Space Princess enters from o.s., flying up between the two girls.

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS Oh my Glob, stop fighting! You’re tearing our family apart! And if you kill each other, who will help me use my lumps to save Finn?!

FULL ON ALL FOUR GIRLS

Princess Bubblegum <SIGHS> and turns to Lumpy Space Princess with a scowl.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM

(shouting) LSP, your lumps are NOT going to save Finn! Your lumps can’t save anything—they’re just an aesthetic quality of who you are as Princess of Lumpy Space, nothing more!

Lumpy Space Princess <GASPS>. Everyone is silent for a beat. Then Lumpy Space Princess turns away from Princess Bubblegum.

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS

Oh, that is it. I’m going down my lumpy cave by myself. Goodbye!

FLAME PRINCESS

(also turns away) I’m heading down my own cave too. I can take care of myself.

MARCELINE

(also turns away) I’m heading for the strawberry ice cream. I stay up all night anyway, so I don’t care if saving Finn takes twice as long just because I have to do it alone.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM

(blinks) Wait, girls!

LOW ANGLE ON ALL FOUR GIRLS

Flame Princess, Lumpy Space Princess, and Marceline head down their respective caves.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM Oh...fine! I’ll find Finn myself.

Princess Bubblegum taps her GPS watch a few times and heads down her choice of cave.

CUT TO:

INT. FLAME PRINCESS’S CAVE – NIGHT Flame Princess walks forward, glowing brightly and looking around. All she sees though are even more soda pop stalactites...and they’re getting longer as she goes along.

FLAME PRINCESS I can get Finn out of here, no probl—OW!

Flame Princess’s heat is starting to cause some of the stalactites to melt, dripping soda pop on her and dampening her glow. She tries to move different ways to escape the soda, but she just keeps making the dripping worse.

FLAME PRINCESS Ow! Ow! Stupid soda pop dripping!

Flame Princess finally just runs forward, trying to reach the end of her cave as quickly as possible.

CUT TO:

INT. MARCELINE’S CAVE – NIGHT Marceline floats along, sniffing the air in frustration.

MARCELINE (scowls)

Oh come on, where’s the scent? Ugh, why does so much of this rock candy have to be red? It’s throwing me off.

Marceline keeps heading forward.

CUT TO:

INT. LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS’S CAVE – NIGHT Lumpy Space Princess floats along, seeing by the light of her phone.

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS Mmm...Oh Jessica, I wish my phone had a signal so I could talk to you. What’ll I do? And where’s Finn? Finn, where are you?!

Lumpy Space Princess starts flying forward quickly.

CUT TO:

INT. PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM’S CAVE – NIGHT Princess Bubblegum heads forward, still trying to get her watch to give her a reading. Finally, she stops walking.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM (sighs)

Oh forget it, this watch can’t help me anymore. I might as well have a look around and do my best to approximate my position myself.

Princess Bubblegum shines the light of her watch on the ground, then against the walls of the cave, then forward into the darkness (revealing that this cave connects with a few additional caverns ahead) and then up to the ceiling. PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM’S POV: THE CAVE CEILING On the cave ceiling, dozens of sprinkle bats are hanging upside down asleep. They are large, chocolate-colored bats with wings covered in rainbow sprinkles. The bats are now waking up thanks to the bright light of her watch. CLOSE ON PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM Princess Bubblegum’s eyes go wide.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM Oh...sprinkles.

FULL ON PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM AND THE SPRINKLE BATS The Sprinkle Bats start descending from the ceiling and swarming over Princess Bubblegum. She runs forward.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM (panicky)

AHH!!!

CUT TO:

INT. FLAME PRINCESS’S CAVE – CONTINUOUS Flame Princess, her body now steaming from being hit with so many drops of soda pop, hears Princess Bubblegum’s <SCREAM> and runs toward it, heading down a side cave up ahead.

CUT TO:

INT. MARCELINE’S CAVE – CONTINUOUS Marceline, drinking the red from some rock candy, hears Princess Bubblegum’s <SCREAM>. She drops her candy and flies toward the sound, heading down a side cave up ahead.

CUT TO:

INT. LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS’S CAVE – CONTINUOUS Lumpy Space Princes hears Princess Bubblegum’s <SCREAM>. She puts away her phone in her lumps and flies toward the sound, heading down a side cave up ahead.

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS Girl, I’ll save you!!!

CUT TO:

INT. PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM’S CAVE – CONTINUOUS Flame Princess, Marceline, and Lumpy Space Princess enter to see Princess Bubblegum trying to fend off the bats. Flame Princess increases her glow to confuse the bats. Lumpy Space Princess flies up and starts shooing them away.

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS Take that! No one messes with these lumps or with princesses!

ANGLE ON MARCELINE

MARCELINE

Or with a Queen! Marceline flies up and transfigures herself to look like a giant bat. She heads away from the girls to lead all of the bats down the cave. Once the bats are a safe distance away, Marceline quickly returns. She looks normal again. ANGLE ON MARCELINE AND PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM Marceline flies over to Princess Bubblegum, holding out an arm to help her up.

MARCELINE (smiles)

Hey, you okay? Princess Bubblegum takes Marceline’s arm and stands, dusting herself off.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM (smiles, nods)

Yeah, I’m okay. Thanks, girls. I owe you all one.

FULL ON ALL FOUR GIRLS Flame Princess and Lumpy Space Princess approach, smiling. Suddenly everyone smells the air deeply as a scent starts coming toward them from up ahead.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM Ice cream?

The four girls look to each other again and nod with smiles. They turn to the dark end of the cave.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM Come on, let’s go get Finn-together.

The four girls run off together toward the end of the cave.

CUT TO:

INT. ICE CREAM CAVERN – NIGHT Finn and Ice King are still in the cavern. Finn has gotten free of his restraints and is just casually sitting on top of a struggling Ice King.

ICE KING Okay, Finn, the joke’s over, heh, heh. You can let me go now, buddy. Come on, I’m starting to feel kind of lame here.

FINN

Tell me what you’re up to, and then maybe we’ll talk.

ICE KING

Never! It’s too important, you wouldn’t understand!

Suddenly, the four girls enter and smile at the sight of Finn. ANGLE ON ALL FOUR GIRLS

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM Finn! You’re all right!

ANGLE ON FINN AND ICE KING

FINN (smiles, waves)

Oh hey, PB! And hey, Marceline and Flame Princess and LSP.

ANGLE ON ALL FOUR GIRLS AND FINN

Finn stands up and approaches the girls. Lumpy Space Princess flies forward and hugs him.

LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS Oh my Glob, Finn, we’re so glad you’re safe!

Lumpy Space Princess pulls back, and Finn <LAUGHS>.

FINN

Yeah, I’m fine. The Ice King was just acting a little loco. But what are you all doing here?

FLAME PRINCESS

We all got weird notes saying to come to the Ice Cream Cavern in the Candy Caves and save you or you’d be eaten by a monster.

ANGLE ON MARCELINE AND ICE KING Marceline flies forward to Ice King, frowning.

MARCELINE Simon, are you the one who dragged us all out here?

Ice King stands up, smiling at her.

ICE KING Oh, yeah, that was me. Pretty sweet idea, huh? You see, I knew you’d all come to save Finn. And now that enough ladies are here...my super awesome singles mixer ice cream party can begin!

FULL ON EVERYONE Ice King throws his hands in the air. There is a beat of silence, and then all of the girls <SIGH DEEPLY>. ANGLE ON ICE KING Ice King lowers his arms and shrugs, still smiling.

ICE KING What? Oh come on, it’s a great plan! It’s Friday night, there’s plenty of ice cream here, and you four ladies have got two eligible bachelors to choose from.

ANGLE ON PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM (dryly)

So there is no monster? ANGLE ON ICE KING

ICE KING Just a ‘dance monster’!

(holds up jazz hands) Now let’s party!

Ice King starts doing a silly dance for a couple of beats. ANGLE ON ALL FOUR GIRLS AND FINN

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM

(dryly) I’m going home.

Princess Bubblegum turns and starts to walk out of the cavern. The rest of the girls follow after her with nods and various <WALLA> of agreement. Finn follows after them. ANGLE ON ICE KING Ice King stops dancing.

ICE KING Aww, come on ladies, wait! At least give this a chance. Please? Did I mention there’s free ice cream? I’ll kick Finn out if that’s the problem. Ladies? Hey, at least wait for me!

Ice King flies out after them.

FADE OUT

THE END
